I was wondering which one is the best weapon for Jaheira? She has 2 points in clubs and scimitars...
Weapons you get only in chapter 6 or 7 I don´t wanna know about. Thanks st.Schnupps |
If you down load the bonus cd you can get a +5 sling. It helps
|
I don´t like importing weapons, cause it spoils my fun of finding stuff, besides I am looking for a close range weapon.
At the moment the best weapon I got for her is Club+3 Blackblood, which is quite good, but I was wondering if there is a +4,+5 club or scimitar. Not of much importance though. st.Schnupps |
No, blackblood +3 is the best club. The best scimitars you can get are Drizzt's, which unfortunately mess around with the game - you'll end up being bugged by hundreds of these idiot Malchor Harpells. Next best is the Belm +2. Quite a leap in quality, unfortunately.
|
Heh, I have Jaheira's using the Belm, "My weopon has no EFFECT"! , is driving me nuts.
|
If you have the bonus CD, you can buy her Kachiko's wakizashi +3 from the man in the Coronet. I think the wakizashi uses the scimitar proficiency.
|
Hot dang.. thank you once again Armisael, by the gods I will get that...
|
Staff of the Woodlands +4. You get it pretty late in the game though...
And there's nothing unethical about using Bonus/Pre-order/Collector's CD items. They're already coded into the game, it's just that you don't have the merchants to sell them. |
? I thought you would just get the new itmes via cheat or sk, so how is the bonus cd implented in the game?
Got some good link? |
Schnupps, go to this page: http://www.bgdungeon.com/bg2/downloads.htm,
there is also a romance script available for downloading |
Normally, I think that the best weapon for Jahiera is definitely the Blackblood +3 club. There are some better quarterstaves, but they are 2 handed weapons that prevent you from using the really good shields. Another great weapon for Jahiera to have in her inventory is the Rod of Smiting (a Qstaff) for whacking all those nasty golems. She'll certainly wield it better than any of the mages.
Also, I think that Jahiera can only wield true scimitars, no wazi(whatevers) allowed. Which brings me to a particular gripe of mine. Why the heck aren't the wazi(whatevers) and the ninja-to's part of the katana skill set??? They have far more in common with the katana than with the scimitar. Furthermore, if a character wanted to dual wield a katana and a wazizashi like a samuarai, he'd have to have two different proficencies. This just doesn't seem right to me. |
You're right, Jaheira can't use wakizashis. She should be able to, it uses the same proficiency... methinks Black Isle may have overlooked druid/fighters when they designed the weapon. Might be a good idea to make a fix for that.
|
Sling of Everard+5 and the scimtar Belm+2 seem to be the best combo that I have used with Jaheira I also use the shield fortress+3. I think you will need the bonus cd to get the sling though.
|
Very early on I bought Jaheira the Cleric's Staff +4 from the Adventurer's mart. That way, I had two weapons in the party that could hit the big golems (the other being the Sling +5 from Deirdre, one of the addons).
She carries that, but mostly uses the +3 club and a cool shield. AC -9. My priest has a +3 Mace and a shield, AC-8, Minsc has the Flail of Ages and the two +3 Axes (the Flail for undead). His AC is -5 (no shield...) Cheers Craig |
I have Jaheira dual-wielding Gnasher and Blackblood, which makes for an effective combo. Early on you can buy the staff of Rhynn(+4) from the Adventurer's Mart which comes in very useful for attacking those hard to hit monsters. Personally I wish there was a better scimitar in the game. You can also find an excellent spear in the Underwater city, Impaler, +3 and an extra 10 points piercing damage, ouch!
|
go [here]
|
go here for some all new scimaters enjoy!!
|
Yes Impaler is the go (+3 +10 piercing). I used that and Rhynn (+4) to cover piercing and bunt attacks. Keeping her on two handed weapons meant I could swap in the applicable elemental staff when confronted with an elemental, or the Rod of Smiting (vs golems) without changing shields as well.
|
The bonus cd has a +3 staff that gives her additional level 5 and 6 spells. Unfortunately I think if she swaps to a sling the extra spells are forgotten... But if you use it to mem steel skin and something else you cast right away in your first battle (say, insect swarm), it may be worth keeping.

I know that this weapon is probably pretty crap compared with what you guys are all talking about, but I found it very useful throughout the early stages of the game...
it is the staffspear, which has a damage of 1d8+3 (or maybe is it +2 ) I got this of Xan, or whatever, I will soon find a better weapon, but this is working fine at the moment... |

There is a +3 scimitar, Water's Edge, in the game but I've never found it. Must be a random item. Anyone out there found it so far?
|
I think the water's edge +3 is just a carry-over from BG. Never found it in the game.
|
The Staff-Spear is good because it uses the STaff profiecency. I gave it to Aerie.
|
If I ever play a bard in any BG game I use Halberds.
|
T'was not my Bard with a Halberd, you silly, but my husband's rockabilly fighter of the hell !
He poked the big thing to death during a good 15 mn, having no Halberd skill, while Valygar made his dryful comments "Waiting around, waiting around, it is just like in the army !" |
That's pretty funny, but seriously, all the Bards I've played I've equipped with a good longbow and a halberd. Most if not all NPC fighters have no proficiency in such a damaging weapon, yet the Bard can use Halberds (and not Two handed swords) so why not? Makes them a better fighter than the Thief. Pretty cool about the Golem, have to try that myself.
|
spoiler location for the scimitar +3 waters edge.................
. . . . . . . it is found in the drow city in chapter 5. can't remember if it was at house jaellat or at the lich tower. I definitely found it in the drow city somewhere. it's nothing spectacular. am i the only one who finds the staff of the woodlands overrated? if you want j to be an offensive tank, impaler is the way to go. if you want her to be a defensive tank belm +2 is the best thing because then she can carry a +4 shield. all these can be found before chap 6. |
I have two other fighters who close with monsters, so Jaheira uses her Sling +2 with Bullets +2 most of the time,
which makes a +4 weapon, so I never get the "My weapon has no effect !" anymore. Meanwhile, I have just found a Sling +3, so I am happy ! |
Hmm, well I use Jaheira as a support tank
Wielding the +2 Scimitar from the Genies in Trademeet and the sling +3 Dragonsbane, and the fortress shield. She can give distance support, anoy mages with insectplague, summon insects and also take care of herself pretty good in a melee. These weapon combos are good strategy ideas. I +m fond of dualwielding, however there are sooooo many good 2h swords in this game for once so ités hard to get to grandmastery.. ;-( |
Not just 2H swords, 2H WEAPONS. look at how many +4 halberds and 2H Swords there are. how many of you EVER used a halberd? bet u not one. None of the NPCs really can use one.
My next game, i will recruit Mazzy and get her to specialize in halberds. I find the idea of a three foot halfling wielding a 7 foot polearm interesting to say the least... Actually is she three feet? or two feet? i thought maybe she was 1 foot tall... |
The halberd can come handy when you want to whack an Adamantite golem without getting touched.
|
I've never understood the deal with bards and halberds. Doesn't really seem like a classical bard weapon to me, but anyway.
Halberds do as much base damage as two-handed swords, and they're certainly abundant around BG2. In fact the only real difference between a two-handed sword and a halberd is the speed factor, a base two-hander having one point lower than a base halberd. |
The deal is you'd normally use a Bard in a missile/spells/song role away from the action so one slot goes to a Longbow or good crossbow. The Halberd is the best melee weapon a Bard can use. It's pointless using a shield because they can only use bucklers (there's an insulting rhyme in there somewhere.) Unless of course you have a Blade, in which case you may as well dual weild Bastards Swords or their ilk seeing as that's the whole point of a Blade.
|
I told you I was not an expert in Bards, that is why the image of a Bard entering a pub where he is going to entertain people holding a halberd struck me as pretty funny !
Oh, Yorick, is this what you look like in real life ? If so, I will make the trip around the world ! |
What do you think my 'empty' guitar case is for?
|
Must be a very BIG guitar indeed !
Is it a +3 guitar, and do you use it to smash customers too ? |
You've heard of guitarists playing their 'Axe' right? Well, isn't a Halberd an Axe with an identity problem?
|
I've not considered it that way but ... I guess a Halberd +2 is an interesting weapon after all !
|
Gives a whole new meaning to 'smashing your instrument onstage.'
