Holy Mage Wah 12-17-2000 10:44 PM

Hi everybody, I know I've posted this thread before and got many weird (and great)answers. But it's also 4am in the morning and I can't seem to get any sleep, so I'm bored to death.

Holy Mage Wah: bored
Holy Mage Wah: death

Heh heh, so just take a couple of secs to jot down ya favourite spell so that I can see what different strategies you guys have. YES, the spell you choose to memorise most determines your strategy so I hope you didn't memorise any old spells!!!!

Also I have noticed many new people are joining this forum so it gives them a chance to say something that is nice and simple.

My Spell:

LV 1 - magic missile
LV 2 - Mirror Image
LV 3 - Melf's Minute Meteors
LV 4 - Stone Skin
LV 5 - Monster Summoning 3
LV 6 - Chain Lightning
LV 7 - Fingers Of Death
LV 8 - Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting
LV 9 - TIME STOP (love it!!)

ironfist 12-17-2000 11:11 PM

Im bored too so I'll join you.
Mine are:
1 - Magic Missiles of course
2 - Mirror Images
3 - Haste
4 - Stoneskin
5 - Chaos
6 - Invisible Stalker
7 - Spell Sequenser(3 x magic missiles)
8 - Simulacrum
9 - Time Stop

Armisael 12-18-2000 02:39 AM

This is from my fighter/mage's perspective.
1 - Magic Missile
2 - Mirror Image
3 - Haste
4 - Stoneskin
5 - Chaos
6 - Death Spell
7 - Power Word, Stun

And if I could use them:
8 - Maze
9 - Spell Trap

Accord 12-18-2000 02:49 AM

For any of my mages (single or duel class):
lvl 1 - magic missiles
lvl 2 - knock
lvl 3 - flame arrow
lvl 4 - spider spawn
lvl 5 - lower resistance
lvl 6 - true seeing
lvl 7 - spell sequencer
lvl 8 - abi-dalzim's horrid wilting
lvl 9 - spell strike

UserUnFriendly 12-18-2000 03:37 AM

just to be different

1-protection from evil-i like pit fiends
2-web
3-fireball
4-stoneskin-duh!/spiderspawn
5-animate dead
6-power word silence
7-finger of death
8-incindeary cloud
9-time stop

I guess i play as a sub-type of sorceror, the subtype "summoner"
I like to use my mage to summon monster guears to walk with me and take the monster's attention from me while my npcs snipe away from range. my other fav tactic, in close enviro, where sniping is not so hot, is to cast a web, which is a fast spell, let the creatures get stuck, then use combo of cloud kill and incindeary cloud to kill them off.

Holy Mage Wah 12-18-2000 09:30 AM

I've never casted a limited wish before melusine. What do you get and what happens if you fail the spell?

Melusine 12-18-2000 10:04 AM

When you cast the spell, a djinni appears and you may do a limited wish. As you know, there is always a chance that the wish is somehow used against you. For example if you ask that some monsters won't be able to kill you, the spell just kills you (so the monsters can't do that anymore). The outcome depends on the caster's wisdom. Therefore, you should only use this spell if you have Aerie (or if your own char. is a mage with high wisdom), since she is the only one with high enough wisdom to pull it off. OK so now the djinni will ask you if you want a one-time wish or a repeatable wish. Repeatable means that if you cast another LW you can ask for the same thing, if you choose one-time, you can never ask that same wish again.
I suggest you try it out for yourself; just reload after every option and choose another one (or just cheat a whole scrollcase full of LW heh). Some of the options are: to heal your party, kill your enemies (who are present at the time, if any), you can get a nice set of armour, some gems and gold, you can ask to become more experienced, you can get a chain contingency....etc. It's great fun to try out!

Melusine 12-18-2000 10:05 AM

I just remembered I think there was a post on limited wish before and some one listed all the possibilities
Try the search option

Holy Mage Wah 12-18-2000 11:17 AM

ARRRRRRRGGHH!!! Firkraag just killed my familiar, now I'm gonna have to cheat in a whole load of constitution points!

Melusine 12-18-2000 04:21 PM

Rikard what is your second level wizard spell??? Am Sorceror???
Holy Mage Wah I just carry my familiar around in my backpack all the time, the only reason why i have it is because I like to pet it.....it's so sweet! Hmmm that's a typical girlish thing to say isn't it?
Oh and BUMP I like this thread.
Is there anyone out there whose LV1 favorite spell is HONESTLY anything else than Magic Missile? It's the only spell any of my three mages ever memorises! Well actually there is one other spell I use, but I...I....I cheated it...~turns bright red... they'll never forgive me... maybe they'll fall for the big liquid puppy dog eyes again~
But honestly it's the only thing I've cheated really you have to believe me!! I just did it to try out Shadowkeeper so I gave my sorceror the 1st level spell Psionic Domination (must be what those Mindflayers use!) It rocks!

cleric 12-18-2000 05:00 PM

Work these spells ?
I tried one but my computer close bg2 dirctly , it was a initate to ploly in a Djinn

Melusine 12-18-2000 05:08 PM

What are you saying I don't understand your question (vraag het anders in het nederlands?)

All I can make of it is that you tried something and BG crashed?
Well yes some of these spells don't work innate abilities of monsters and suchlike, so for example don't try to create an innate ability Level Drain for yourself as it will crash the game. I dunno why the Psionic Domination works... you should always check if there is a description in Shadow Keeper for the spell you're assigning.

Ertai, Wizard Adept 12-18-2000 07:06 PM

Well, my sorceror is still only level 12 so i have only till level6 spells...here they are:

1.- What you think ?? MAGIC MISSILE
2.- MIRROR IMAGE
3.- MELFS METEORS
4.- STONE SKIN
5.- SUN THING (the strange fireball)
6.- CHAIN LIGHTNING

By the way, the level 6 magic protection spell (i cant remember the name, something like protection from magic energy) allows you to cast spells ?? I say this beacuse in the description doesnt say anything but in IWD there was a level 6 protection spell that didnt allow you to cast magic

Holy Mage Wah 12-18-2000 07:16 PM

You're kinda like me Wizard Adept, but bewarer the sunray DOES hurt your own party so keep well away!! I kinda toasted Anomen on a particular sad incident!!

For everybody else I don't just cast magic missile, I also cast burning hands.

1d4 + 20 fire = max of 24!!

that's good enough for me.

save vs spell = 1d4 + 10 = 14 max

does more than agannazzar sometimes!!

Melusine 12-18-2000 07:19 PM

Toasting Anomen? That's not sad!! That's one of my special 'let's have a BBQ' moments

Ertai, Wizard Adept 12-18-2000 07:23 PM

Yes Wah, and i think my favourite spell level 9 will be TIME STOP, its seems quite cool. The s*cking liches use it and it s*cks !! And also Ive noticed that you havent written contingency or sequencer. I think they arent so good because you are using a level 7-8 spell to memorize a level 1-6 spell !! I prefer to use something else (this Abi Dalzim thing sounds fine).

Melusine 12-18-2000 07:27 PM

Well but I did: I listed Sequencer, Contingency AND Chain Contingency they are really helpful for reducing casting time and hitting someone for a lot of damage at once (sequencer) and for a quick protection of your character when you don't want to be wasting your time during a fight casting defensive spells. incidentally I only use these spells from scrolls so I do not waste any memorization slots on them

Ertai, Wizard Adept 12-18-2000 07:29 PM

And about the sunray, I know it hurts my party but the most exciting thing for Ertai is to cast some protective spells (typical mirror image and stone skin) and go alone to meet some enemies, toast them with sunray or chain lightning and finally kill the few that might have survived with magic missiles !!
About level one, dont forget sleep. Its fun to cast cloudkill and then sleep and go drink something while your enemies sleep to death !! Anyway it works better with emotion (and i suppose it would work better with some high level spell that i still havent).
And agannazar s*cks (damn ive got to stop saying that)

Holy Mage Wah 12-18-2000 07:46 PM

yeah, I love time stop - in fact I made a whole thread on what people would cast and do during the time stop period.

One of my favourites was from Memnoch was it? or was it Armisael?

Cast time stop - then release triple chain lightning trigger, then abi dalzim (wearing robe of vecna), then sunray as many times as you can.

Boy!! don't calculate the hit dice for that kinda damage or you'll be getting migraines!!
