I just can't defeat him! I asked a question on levels before here and supposedly my party is strong enough but I can't get him past near death and then he just kills my entire party without me doing him damage even once.
(maybe it's because I don't have a mage capable of level 6 spells (they are both on 11 level now) so I can't cast pierce magic . help? |
Hey Red Dragon Slayer,
You should get some better spells before trying to beat him, like a few lvl.6. even maybe lvl.7. but you don't need pierce shield, for memory you won't need it, but the dragons are all weak against lighting type spells, you need to use lower resistance first. (this will help a lot, but is not needed.) Also do you have any +3 and better weapons? arange athe party members around hime like in a circle, I find this helps as he can't attack you all at once and give you mage(s) a little from him that should also help and try conjuring beasts like Nishrru and if your desperate you could try a pit fiend I guess but I dont know how effective this is, just experiment around a little and you should get it ------------+ Sir Frances Drake ------------+ -----------------------+ Too many wizards spoil the spell But, too many spells spoil the wizard ---------------------------+ |
I have +3 or better (like that a few dragon only weapons)
hmm lightning type spells eh? that's something for jaheira. |
|
[ADD]Also get the wand of Cloudkill, sell it and then buy it back (now with full charges) use 50 shots and it will kill Firkrag[/ADD]
|
Nevermind, (I used the cloudkill tactic once but 5 shots are only enough to get him to "injured")
I just summoned some elementals, positioned everybody around him before turning hostile kept shooting Magic Misiles on him used a wand of lightning bolts and he dropt dead without me getting more then a scratch My paladin sure is happy with that **spoiler on his loot** - - - Holy Avenger :D |
haha. I defeted FirKraagh with a lvl 10 mage party. Hes just TO easy ;)
I just used rod of Cloudkill on him twice and then my hole party had minor spell sequensor with 2 magic missiles in each. Thats 12 magic misslies on poor Firkraagh and its hot steamy Dragon stew for everybody! Heres a strat im sure mobody ever used.
WHats Required? 2 mages and some with alot of life. What I used? Edwin, Jan, and my RANGER What equipment? 2 mages, nothing. You guy with lots of life gets boots of speed, and cloak of mirroring. What to do? Just send in the guy with lots of hp in and run around in circles, the dragon will never be able to touch you. Now have your mages pummel him with spells, lowering magic resistance is not what I used, but it might be easier. I had it on insane, so crank the dif to insane for maximum results. What I finished with- I had Jan finish him of with a lightning bolt after edwin pummeled hit with practically 10 melfs acid arrows. What else? I was a HUGE newbie back then. I didnt get all crazy when I saw the dragon cuz I thought he would be super easy. I also had Jaheria, Anomen, and Korgan in the background doing nothing. Oh, and I used this strat on Firkraag. To make the tactic even easier Have more mages! DO NOT make the mages get very close cuz the dragon might run after the helpless mages. IF this happens, get the guy with lots of hp to slash at the dragon to get him back. I hope it helps, my party was between 13-14. I didnt do many quests. If your not it ch6 and you dont have boots of speed or cloak of mirroring, use substitutes. Haste the guy with hp every now and then, and give the guy alot of protection against the type of dragon. IE, fire for firkraag, acid for someother dragon. Oh ya, he stopped wing buffoting after I sent in a crap load of kobolds. |
I used a very cheap tactic. I just had Yoshimo lay around 10 traps, and then force attacked him after casting magic resistance on him. Him went doown fast.

Any tip how do get him down when soloing a Figher/Mage/Thief with level 14/14/16
Thanks in forehand. |

But for me, arrows of biting and other poison-type spells were definitely the way to go, while distracting the big guy from my magic missileers. Now, if you just happen to have a want of cloudkill... that helps, too. But frankly, all the non-fire wands are good. I constantly was able to get in good licks with a wand of frost that way. Dramatic fight, with excellent casting by the designers. "But frankly, you bore me..." |
I and my Elven Archer could use a little help taking Firkraag down. My party consists of me Archer followed by Minsc,Jaheira,Aerie, Nalia. We are about level 9 or ten right now and I would like to kill Firkraag with my bow if I can. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this?

In chapter two, there should be some before you hit Firkraag. Keep them is all I can say. I like arrows of biting, arrows of piercing, and then the acid and fire ones(regular ones help sometimes too). One game on another dragon, Mazzy was using arrows of piercing and doing well over 15-20 dmg. Her last shot of 25 was the killing blow( was a crit hit tho). The lil knuckle head *don't worry, she doesn't mind me calling her names* stole a dragon kill from me heh. If you read above, equipment helps out alot. It may be tough at the lower levels, but I think you will be fine if you try every option you have. Fire protection is a MUST. Over 100% without the patch will actually get you healed instead of killed. If you have boots of speed, use them on your archer. If you don't, use oils of speed and keep enough on each character. Same goes for pro fire potions. What I'd do with an archer and full party is: Line the melee guys up around dragon just for him to use the wing buffet and to get in cheap licks early. The dragon will or should stone skin. Stand top side with your archer who should be hasted by now. Keep mages bottom right side. Once fight begins, cast whatever spells you can and melee and send arrows flying. After the buffet, keep your melees out of range. Tuck them safely in some corner - I prefer bottom corner. They can get eaten up rather quickly. Lure the dragon to the top side by use of your archer who should be wearing down the skins and doing dmg. If hasted, you should be able to outrun the dragon, head back down to your party. Now you can ping pong the thing. Get your archer back to the dragon who should be on top waiting. Have some of your other guys follow. You proceed pass the dragon to the top. It should follow you. By this time either your melees will be on it's tail or using whatever they can. You run in circles stopping when you can to take hits from the bow. If dragon turns on them, run them out back down south. Keep firing with your bow. Of course it sounds easier on paper. |
You can kill Firkraag so easy.
Just use Lower magic resistance on the red bastard(twice) Then use as many cloudkill as you can. If he isn't dead by then use smite and fireball. Kill him with every areaeffect spell you can do. |
I don't like fighting dragons. I get my fun out of just meleeing enemies, and every time I do that, dragons just keep using wing buffet to send my characters away. By the time my characters get back and start attacking again the dragon is ready to do it again. :(

If you are skilled with Long Swords equip the "Dragon Slayer" thet you got with the shield in that kings tomb. (Same dungeon.)
I was around lvl 10 when i did it. (NO CHEAST!) Just cast some protective and haste spels, and spread your chars over a large area. |
Here's another Firkkragg strat that requires one cleric and one fighter (or same cleric with a good weapon). May work better with a Fighter/cleric (better THAC0)
While Firkky is still 'blue', have your cleric cast 'Harm' and then attack. A successful hit will take the lizard down to 1 HP, so one clean hit from yer fighter will kill him. This works well for a low-level group that has a paladin who needs that sword.. |
You would probably want to cast Magic Resistance or lower resistance on him first, to give Harm a better cahnce of connecting. Otherwise, it might not hit him. :(

Insect Swarm is very, very useful - mainly for stopping Firkraag casting those damned spells! A dragon on Haste is not a pretty thing.
Anyway, I simply cast every defensive spell I had on the party plus haste, draw upon holy might, defensive harmony, righteous magic etc etc, passed around potions of fire resistance to those who had none, laid as many traps as I could (2), got the 5 NPCs to surround Firkraag with missile weapons and my own Cavalier (with Boots of Speed) kept him busy by fighting /running away. Nalia hit Firkraag with Lower Resistance as Jahiera fired off an Insect PLague; after that Nalia kicked off with a Breach and we got to work. When Firkraag tried to kill one of the other party members, the party simply redeployed to get out of his way while the luckless victim legged it and the Cavalier attacked anyway. After about 15 minutes of continual hit-and-run, the mighty Red went down to dozens of sling bullets and arrows - although my Cavalier struck the last blow. Much more 'honourable' than the cloudkills. |
