if i absolutely HAD to pick an npc to use, i would take Keldorn. paladins are cool, and to have two of them in your group is just awesome.

SixOfSpades 12-14-2001 06:05 PM

I'll cast a vote for Jan here--everybody needs a smartass, wisecracking, turnip beer-loving, hamster-stealing Gnome every now and then.

Besides, he got style.

Willard 12-14-2001 06:37 PM

Jaheira is my favorite. She has good spells, and makes a great tank (with the right equipment)

AzRaeL StoRmBlaDe 12-14-2001 06:43 PM

well BOO is my favorite NPC but I guess Minsc is a close second.

ULockit I Stealit 12-14-2001 07:05 PM

My vote would have to be for Edwin as I kicked his ass every time I could in BGI and he just doesn't remember. He has some sweet posibilities and I especially love the spoiler below. The only thing that ticks me is his stupid amulet.

You got to love it when you first go into get the Book for Korgan and Edwin gains massive levels, turns into a chick and whatever else it did. Lots of fun for all!!!!

Nifft the Nimble 12-14-2001 07:25 PM

My first vote goes to EDWIN! He's uber-powerful, but also hillarious, and a well thought out and implemented personality. His faults get him into real trouble and his comments are often incisive.

Secondly Keldorn, for pretty much the same reasons as above, though the personality and faults are about 180 degrees off.

Third would be Nalia, but just because I like bad little rich girls with conveniently absent fathers. The castle is just frosting.

-- Nifft, defiler of heiresses

jabidas 12-14-2001 07:51 PM

You simians may refer to him as Edwin or if you prefer a less syllabel intensive workout, sir.

After Edwin I love Korgan, Aerie, Sarevok and Imoen

LennonCook 12-14-2001 08:07 PM

1st- Edwin. Good mage, and Quite Funny- plus theres edwins amulette that grants him 1 extra soell/ level...
2nd. HaerDalis- "A world full of the Wonders of Commerce, Perhaps we could sell Jaheira?" HILARIOUS comments, but fairly Mediochre abilities IMO.
3rd. Minsc- fairly funny... good abilities.
4th. Keldorn- He has osme pretty funny lines sometimes... and the scripts involving him are intriging, ifnot funny.
5th. Jan- his turnips are funny at first, but do eventually loose their comedy value.
6th. Valygar- fairly strong. not much comedy though..
7th. Nalia- She lives in a big castle. Need i say more?
8th. Viconia,Anomen- their both fairly good clerics... not much comedy though.
9th. Korgan- High HPs, but VERY annoying.
No others deserve to have a ranking IMO... there just stupid.

Red Dragon Slayer 12-15-2001 08:31 AM

The talking sword!

can we go kill something now? please?

quick! kill it before it's gone!

My last owner said I was sharp and edgy, he was such an ass.

bo-ooring!

Who's your daddy!

Galadria 12-15-2001 08:55 AM

Seeing the stricken field in the hands of the evil Edwin lovers, she wades into the fray. Little bloody fragments of red cloth fail to mar her blade, as she dispatches the lot of them, ignoring their feeble taunts of "simian," and the like. Picks up blood-stained amulet, spits on it, and, leaning on her trusty blade, speaks aloud, no one to hear her but the red-clad corpses:

My List
1. Viconia-Beautiful, powerful, true, and loyal. What else can I say. Plus, the most intriguing back-story of any NPC.Why would you need comedy, when you've got tragedy?
2.Imoen-sweetie-pie of the first order. She IS my little sister that I never had.
3.Keldorn-Great tank, a Paladin, his dislike of Vickey is his one fault.
4.Minsc-Good tank, great comedy
5.Nalia-Sweety-pie, #2, with attitude.
6.(reluctantly)Jahiera, even though she is annoying. For old times sake, and because she lost her husband, my old friend Khalid, apparantly in my service.
7. Aerie-Feel sorry for her, would take her but for lack of hit-points. Good back-story.
and, dead last, for you Edwin lovers, he receives the award of The Only NPC that Lady Galadria Kills in Every Game of BGI or II that she's ever played. It's great fun to see his little red body by the bridge in Nashkell every time you go across it. Honorable mention, Anomen. I don't kill him, just sock him.

Anansi 12-15-2001 09:34 AM

MAZZY FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or at least fave npc! She kicks badass booty with grandmaster in both shortsword and bow, and I mean the cultured British accent is the only one I can actually stand listening to for more than an hour at a time. And she's a halfling, hobbit or whatever, which equals major cuteness when she's wearing that

- - -SPOILER - - -

shiny red dragon armour

Obviously the best.

Second I think would be Cernd and then maybe Jaheira.

Lucre 12-15-2001 11:06 AM

EDWIN! Think of ToB: "Damn you I almost had her down to three gold for the night and you drag me out here!" :D I just love it! :D

Horatio 12-15-2001 11:08 AM

An NPC needs to be short. An NPC needs to be funny. An NPC needs to make others look bad.
Let's face it, Jan rocks.

badet 12-15-2001 12:28 PM

btw, if u don't count the roleplay value of jan, is he worth keeping?
Why?

The only reason i keep jan around is becuase he's funny, which makes the game more fun.

Thats the point of the game to roleplay!

Yorick 12-15-2001 03:45 PM

Mazzy. The ever spunky Mazzy. Best portrait (very sexy) best voice, best attitude. What a little woman!

Dundee, trust you to rate Edwin's (a mage) abilities highest. Can't get away from a mage oriented game can we? ;) :D

Oh and look who's your #2... Aerie LOL.

Galadria 12-15-2001 04:53 PM

Uh, Yorick, sexy. How can she be sexy when she looks like her head is covered with Li'l Sizzlers. Never mind, I know, to each his own...LOL

Mordenheim 12-15-2001 05:17 PM

1:Viconia (yummy)
2:Jaheria (tough)
3:Edwin (too funny)

Barb 12-15-2001 05:30 PM

1. Minsc2.
2. Boo
3. A flea that Minsc and Boo share

Barb 12-15-2001 05:31 PM

Somebody here has a facelink sig, It keeps on popping up.

Aelia Jusa 12-15-2001 05:46 PM

I love Mazzy. I always give her doomplate and the dragon helm - she looks great in pink :D

And Jaheira rocks as well - tanks, spells, sweet romance

Yorick 12-15-2001 11:39 PM

YEAH! The funky punk-attitude hairdo. The bone structure of the face, skin tone, eyes, expression of steel, yet friendliness in her expression. And... ORANGE! I love Orange! Bugger that there wasn't a romance with Mazzy.

(What am I saying, it's a computer game!)

Still, I wonder who the model for the portrait was?

melancholic_goat 12-16-2001 08:13 AM

I like Minsc, Anomen, Nalia, and Aerie.
Minsc is just damn funny and a very useful fighter. Charm animal rocks too
Anomen is an amazing tank if you give him gloves of dexterity. Currently he is AC -8 and I'm only a few level-ups into the game!
Nalia is a rich chick, so shes cool. And she gave me a castle for killing some trolly things. Which is strange, because although she wants her castle free of trolls, she gives it to a man who spends most of his time in troll form (cloak of the sewer). Oh well, suits me!
Aerie is cool, and the romance thing with her is really sweet. Whats even better is if you take Viconia, and reject Aerie, she goes and kills herself! Hahahahahaha! The only thing I like Viconia for, sadly, because Anomen is basically the same, but with fighting abilities and being a tank.

Edwin's cool but evil, so I just did his quests, then showed him how powerful a simian can really be.

Bokken 12-16-2001 08:21 AM

My favourite NPC is Aerie. (No criticising please. You asked, so this is my prefference) She is both a cleric & mage and makes for a great romance.
I'd go for Minsc second but that's only cause of his hamster squeeking every time he says something heh

SixOfSpades 01-03-2002 01:14 PM

Your opinions are good, but you know....the more I read them, the more I miss Coran. Great Fighter, great Thief, absolutely kickass Archer, great soundset (suave & debonair), his 'tendencies' get him in trouble with that mage in BG city....absolutely hideous picture, of course, but that can be changed.

fable 01-03-2002 02:13 PM

Jan. His abilities as configured are nicely individualized away from the standard AD&D pattern: that's one point for him. He's the most effective thief in the game, and a good mage who can't overbalance things by becoming a superb mage; he's also physically weak, making him a nice strategic challenge in combat. Graphically, his icon is more distinctive than most, which makes him easy to follow in a battle.

The writing for Jan is also excellent. His whimsical humor scores great points when placed against Viconia or Minsc, for example. I only wish he (and the other characters) had been somehow configured to provide advice at select points in the game. I'm sure Jan would have some shrewd comments to offer about vampires and golems. ;) :D

Galadria 01-03-2002 07:52 PM

I know that i've already posted too much on this thread, but I just had to tell you that on the Black Isle forum, there is a great "Anti-AnnoyMan Club," of which I am a proud member. I think that I'll add it to my sig. We post annoying things that he says and does. There was also a great poll where they actually tabulated the votes for favorite NPC, for which they had about 50 votes. Guess who won? Wasn't Edwin! It was Imoen! By a landslide. The guy that started the thread wanted to change it to a "What's your favorite NPC besides Imoen," but was hooted down. LOL. "Forgive me, Ziroc, for I have sinned, and wandered into the boards of others."

fable 01-03-2002 07:59 PM

Anomen does seem to touch a raw nerve for many people in his combination of blatant arrogance and discreet sexism. I only wish they'd altered his regular comments after he'd "made the grade" and gained a few points of wisdom, since he keeps making the same rude noises as before.

Sir Goulum 02-10-2002 03:43 PM

Imoen

andy the assasin 02-10-2002 03:58 PM

O.k these are the results so far:
Anomen - 0.75 (a bit too high for my liking)
Nalia - 0.75
Talking sword - 1
Imoen - 1
Jaheria - 1 (c'mon she's brilliant, she should have more than this)
Keldord - 1
Aerie - 1.25
Vicconia - 2
Mazzy - 3
Jan - 3
Minsc - 3.25
Edwin - 5 (definatly the most powerful wizard, he gets 3 extra slots per spel level)

Sorcerer Alex 02-10-2002 04:28 PM

I've always been reluctant to admit my feelings for the beautiful, petite halfling warrior of Arvoreen - probably for fear of being made out for a paedofile ;)

But heck, what can I say? She's cute, polite and a very good fighter
