I've been spoiling myself, and I read that after the birdie is delivered to Xzar, someone's supposed to summon Jaheira to the Harper's hold. This haven't happened to me yet, and I'm wondering whether there's a specific trigger for it. Is it supposed to happen immediately after giving the bird to Xzar, or is it time related? I did the Xzar quest on day 5 or so, and I rested until day 20 at the docks, and still nothing. Any help? Thanks in advance
|
i had the quest immediately after some big conversation wif Aerie and Ja
after that she took off......anyway....just wanted to ask if anyone else had a problem when Jaheira came back...my darn game keeps hanging whenever she tries to rejoin my party..anyone experience that? |
what bird? what jaheira subquest?
the only jaheira subquest i've been involved in is the one where some dude from her distant past tries something on her. and i'm up to chapter 6, haven't seen hide nor hair of the harpers, can't get into their building and have had jaheira in my group from day one. did this have something to do with rescuing monty? i told xzar to ■■■■ off so maybe that was it. |
yes, you try to rescue monty..., you receive a small quest within the same city, you get in to the Harper Hide-out, you find out what happened, then ...I was approached by the Harper to take Jahiera away for one night...then when she returned, the Harpers wanted to see me...It is an exciting sub-quest when you are summond to return to the Harper hide-out...you should try and get in to see the head guy...he has a special "treat" for you...
|
The subquests don't seem to have anything to do with chapter. I'm on my 2nd time through the game, and decided to do all of the subquests I can in Chapter 2, and I have most of them done so far. For some reason, they seem to have more dialogue and have a bit more depth when doing them in Ch2 than when I tried to do them after I cleared out the Elf city. I've gotten WAY farther on Nalia's quest than I did before, as in, one father of the jerk that Nalia was suposed to marry has threatoned war on my keep because I woulden't give it to him.
As for Jaheria, so far, I've been listening to her lament over her odds with the Harpers, and in my most recent random run-in with a Harper, she renounced her membership with the Harpers (I'm playing it nice, I'm not butchering all the harpers as they ambush me, I find that I can talk my way out of them attacking). |
Yeah, I am at the point that she has just recinded her membership (as it were) from the Harpers and is awaiting the outcome of that. However, I dumped her to make way for Mazzy (a much more entertaining character) and Jaheira didn't seem too impressed. Will this make a big difference to any (rewarding) forthcoming quests? My party is much better equipped without her (Minsc, Yoshimo, Aerie & Mazzy).......

I agree that doing all the side quests in Chap 2 offer so much more depth than doing them in Chap 6. I sort of rushed through the game the first time because i got really caught up in the linear story and finished the game before finishing all the side quests. 2nd time around i's still in chap 2, have tons of money and more and more quests just keep opening up.
Speaking of sidequests: Did anyone get the bandit thing where they supposedly hold Jaheira hostage? Someone said that this happens after you clear out the troll mound in the druid grove. Did all that, rested outside for 40 straight hours (almost 2 days!) but nothing happened. It's been 5 days since i cleared the mound and still nothing. What is the trigger for this? |
Possibly a random one. I've scoured the game and I can't figure out what triggers it. I got it straight after I came out of the Underdark. There are four choices in it; ignore the bandit's threats, in which case he slits Jaheira's throat, offer him all your equipment (you get it back after killing him), offer yourself instead of Jaheira, or beg and plead. You can get some funny reactions from Jaheira for doing each one. The best result comes from offering yourself in place of Jaheira. You take a bit of damage and she chews you out, then she goes all teary-eyed. If only it were that easy in real life.

I got the bandit encounter. It happened to my thief. I was resting in my "office" after I took over the thieve's guild. The next thing I know, we are surrounded by bandits. I thought that was a little odd and considered flogging all the thieves in the guild for not keeping a better look out.
I've had Jaheira summoned in both games I have played so far after I completed the Xzar/Monty subquest and then another quest. A Harper will just show up and tell Jaheira to come with her. The rest plays out from there. |
About the bandits who take Jaheria hostage, it was kinda ammusing. I had saved right before I was forced to decide between Aerie and Jahera. When I picked Jahera, I rested, then I woke up to the bandits. When I picked Aerie, heh, I rested and got the bandits AND the runner from the Harper Hold who came to tell Jaheria to come with her. Walked right into the middle of the heated battle and initiated dialogue right as Jaheria was in the middle of chuncking some fool. She left right there and then. Heh, guess it coulden't have waited.
However, when I did pick Jaheria, the Harper came 1 rest later. Does anyone know when the end of the Jaheria romance/subquest plot is? So far, I've gotten to the following steps after Jaheria brought me to the Harper hold and I had to clear it out... Jaheria chatters about being unsure about her decision to turn on the harpers.... Ambushed by a group of Harpers (we talk our way out of it)... Jaheria chatters about being unsure about killing the harpers at the harper base... Jaheria meets her old mentor, who tells her that he had been sent to kill her, but we talk our way out of that too.. Jaheria chatters about something or other ( can't remember)... Jaheria goes into her "Blast! My armour needs cleaning!" talk.... Jaheria talks a bit about something... Jaheria's old mentor comes back and tells her that she's been marked for death. Jaheria leaves in the night to go back to the Harper hold (left a message with me).... I went back to the harper hold and found a bunch of punks there, who I mopped the floor with..Jaheria on the 2nd floor says that the harper base was abandond because the Spectrial Harpers weren't there anymore, and that perhaps the harpers here weren't really harpers... and finally...Jaheria's old mentor and some other fools ambushed me in the wilderness, and after a short dialogue, we had to eliminate them. Jaheria goes into a "I didn't really want to do that" speach, and I chear her up with some humor. It's been a few days of wandering around, and she hasn't said anything else after that. Has anyone gotten beyond that? I know there's some built in stuff when.... You turn into the Slayer for the first time.... You sleep with (and end your relationship) or reject that Drow chick in the Underdark... And at the end when you size up your friends before going into the final battle with Irenicus (and a few speaches after that). |
Man I'm getting sick of waiting for these bandits to show up. I'm currently carrying THREE clerics (Viconia because she's the best cleric around bar none, Anomen who is a dick but I want to play through his subquest, and Jaheira who is not a bad fighter-druid with the right equipment). I've been sleeping around everywhere. I even tried sleeping in my thieves' guild. It must be a totally random trigger. I even tried sleeping on the street near that ruffian outside the Seas Bounty hoping I would get mugged but all that happened was some guard came and threatened to turf me out of Athkatla. Oh well.

Hey all, lordkymil, I'm the one who mentioned that bandit encounter, it happened to me after resting at the mound. After reading the other posts, it must be somewhat random.
To get that quest in the Harper stronghold, you first have to rescue the poisoned man from his attackers, happend to me in a travel/waylayed, scenario. Taking him to the Harpers is what gets your foot in the door. Heh, if you told Xzar where to shove it, then yeah, you missed out. Jaheira's being called away after you inadvertantly become an accomplice in Xzar's death seems to be random as well. I have a few games running concurrently, in my Ranger game she was called away at that time. In my fighter game, that incident has come and gone and I am still waiting for her to be called away. Addenum: Regarding Jahiera as an NPC, I know alot of people seem not to like her. I actually enjoy her character immensely, especially in BG2 since you get to see here character delvelope from her constant BG era nagging and bickering into a more sensitive and even romantic personage. It is a nice developement. I also have to agree with those who view Jaheira as an asset in the group. Heck I'm only in chapter 3, and she has nearly a hundred hp, plate +1, ring of protection, med shield +2, helm +2, and her armor class is -7. Heck she almost never gets hit by anything. She has a sling +2 with bullet +2, and hits with nearly every shot. And she also has a good range of spells. I think some of these side quests may be based on your relationship with the woman/women if you have the overide. My third game is as an Half-Orc fighter, I wanted the strength and dexterity bonuses of 19, which I got. He started the game with 120hp, could pack 500 pounds and an unmodified thaco of 6, great for a starting character. The prob is that Half-Orc's suffer a big charisma hit (of course Black Isle doesn't say how big ,). Heh, no woman wants him, and I have noticed that since they are not chummy chummy with him, that some of these side quests have not come up. |
Could you not use that girdle that raises your charisma to 18 ??
|
Hi Larr2, Heh, actually I do have it. I got a fantastic skills roll and was able to start my Half-Orc with;
Strenth 19 Dexterity 19 Costitution 18 Charisma 17, which is now 18 with the girdle. The charisma penalty the Half-Orc suffers is aparrently in the coding and somehow not related to the charisma skill roll. I am at the same point in chapter 3 in all 3 of my games, and I am in tight with all 3, Jaheira, Aerie and Viconia (I hate the way viconia constantly harrasses Aerie ), in my human/fighter and elf/ranger games. But in my Half-Orc/fighter game, none of them has ever initiated dialogue allowing for a romance to develope. Oh well, no distractions. |
That's a bit strange! That must mean that the romance threads are race-specific. Isn't that descrimination?? What if your half orc has a charisma of 17, buffed with strength and dexterity of 19, con of 18 and int and wis of say 5 each (your typical studmuffin musclehead himbo), why is he less desirable than a skinny elf with char of 13. I'd be interested to know if dwarf, halfling, gnome and half-orc characters have EVER been able to carry out the romance thread.
The.Relic on the bandit issue: it finally happened and perfect timing too. Doing the Umar Hills quest and I rested outside this cave for 16 hours then the bandits came and I did the heroic 'offer myself in her place' thing. It was funny because after I kicked the shit out of them she goes 'we'll talk later' then just after that the Harper came to pick her up then she said 'I'll be back...I-I don't want to be away from you for too long." Shades of Casablanca! Anyway it gives me a chance to pick up Mazzy who I have been slagging off in this forum in a major way. |
I have had similar frustration with Jaheira...SPOILER>>>>
. . . . . . . . . . . . ...I come out of the underdark, take care of Dermin, she says she didn't want to do that, but is okay with it...I make her laugh, then...nothing. Prior to that in chap 3 she questoned my tainted blood, chap 4 the same question though this time when I got queasey after the ritual she questioned me not Imoen, chap 5 she commented after my virtuous stand with the drow but she again asked me about my tainted blood (everytime I gave the nice answer) then Chap 6 and Dermin, but my question is "now what?" I have done the side quests, I was waiting to squash Bohdi after J and I figured things out...but I am getting tired of waiting, but yet I have put a lot of time into this...women! |
The bandit thing must be time related and also have something to do with where you're at. I'm on about day 30 but I'm only in Chapter 2 (I just got the game last Tuesday). I was working on the Haer Dalis subquest in the sewers, did that, was ready to go back to the sewers when I got sucked into the extra planar prison thing. I beat that and then decided to head to the Umar Hills before going back to the sewers to complete the Unseeing Eye quest. As soon as I got to the Umar Hills my party was fatigued so I rested and awoke to the bandit thing.
|
Hmm... in my game the bandits showed up at Umar Hills, too.
|
Also, Jaheira's romance takes the longest to get through.
Not that I'm into this stuff, love is for the weak and all that. *cough* |
LOL... I really love all the new character interaction in this game. It makes it almost impossible for me to quit playing it.
BTW, I didn't pick up Aerea (sp?) until just recently. Before her arrival, I had a blossoming romance going with Jaheira. Then, A shows up and talks my ear off. The only thing that's happened with Jaheira since then is a little fight she and A got into earlier today. A told her that she kept giving me "those looks"... Can you only have one romance with one woman at a time? |
QUESTION. Are you really gonna choose between them?! What if I suddenly love Jaheira for her spellcasting stuff... and then they begin their duel asking me to choose between them?! Crap... my head hurts...
Even Paladins can sometimes be confused... human nature. |
Well, it seems to me like I have no choice. Jaheira has barely spoken to me since Aerie showed up. Outside of their little cat fight, there's been little conversation from Jaheira. I wonder if she's unhappy with the party alignment? I don't know... Minsc loves it.
Everytime I turn around he's babbling about hamsters and rangers being everywhere... LOL... Minsc is NEVER leaving my party... =) |
Yes, most paladins I've known (for however brief a period of time) have had a tendency towards confusion; at any rate, they won't scarper simply because you're not interested in them. Just let them off easily. They won't like it, but there's not much they can do about it. Words to live by.
|
Heh Salty... I agree, I'll dump my character before I ever dump Minsc. The "addled one" as Viconia calls him is just to good a fighter and too hilarious to get rid of. Where else can you hear "Evil beware, come jump on my sword, Minsc has righteous butt kicking goodness in store for you"!
And yeah, off the shelf BG2 is structured for one romance. If you dump one, or start going for another you lose the one you had. Some of us have d/l the romance overide patch, so we can have all 3 romances at the same time. |
I've gotten two more romance discussions with Jaheria since I last posted on this thread.
I got nothing but silence for a while from Jahera after killing off that guy who framed her in the Harpers. The first time she talked, she kept asking if I was the same guy she has always known, the next time she talked, she asked if I was hiding anything from her. I found that the romance dialogue sequences seem to be time triggered. I put myself in the inventory screen and went for a while, an hour later, Jaheria was ready to talk. Could be a way to force the conversation out of her. |
What, bore her into submission?
