I've just reinstalled Wizardry 8 and also the patch from the official site, however I can't save or load or anything like that. When I click on the Game Options button the game just dumps me back to the desktop and I get an error message saying something about debug something-or-other. Moving around and opening chests and so on works fine. Any thoughts?
Thanks |
ehh, No! (sorry) Things i've heard:
Drivers, and Preference settings. Reapply the patch. Reinstall the game. heh, i remember you from when i was otter... hopefully you'll get it running, and i can say, 'welcome back to W8' |
Hey thanks, Scatter! I remember you as Otter too
Hopefully I won't have to reinstall... I'm using XP if that's illuminating for anyone Edit: I also just clicked on 'options' on the main menu (with load, start new game, credits etc), also got dumped out. [ 01-23-2004, 12:09 AM: Message edited by: Aelia Jusa ] |
I'm using XP, too. I have only strange programm terminations ( sometimes when the party changes a map ).
It seems too simple, but maybe the savegame directory is gone ? Edit: No, bad idea. The savegame directory does not affect Game Options. Sorry Aelia Jusa. [ 01-23-2004, 12:55 AM: Message edited by: Loudhy ] |
It doesn't have any errors for me with XP. So sorry but I can't help.

I'd suggest doing a complete uninstall and then reinstalling the game. Then get into it and see if the Options work properly (do a new team from the start, not a save game, in case of corruption). If everything works, put in the patch. If you have that problem again, then you know the patch is bad and you'll have to re-download it.
If everything is fine after the patch, then there might have been a burp during the original install.
Nightowl2
|
Okay I'll do that then. I can't use a save game anyway because I can't load from the main menu either ;)
Yeah, I just mentioned XP because the last time I played it and it did work (last year) I was using 98 |
If u can't get help here, just go to the official tech help forum, lots of stuff gets solved there.
|
I deleted the whole directory including all my old saves and reinstalled - problem solved! Something was really screwy with the previous install, I didn't even get setup (resolution, graphics etc) options before it loaded the first time.
So thanks for everyone's advice! |
Welcome Back to W8!

Glad it was something so easily fixed. When dealing with a new OS (especially Windows) you're never sure about these things. But it did sound more like a bad install than a system problem. No all you have to worry about is the terrible road ;)

I know you've already solved the problem, but what was ironic was that my game played for years before I had a similar problem. Reinstalling it fixed the glitch...again, running on xp.

had the same problem with xp but removing and updating my vid drivers was the solution there.
happy adventuring |
I wonder if it's an XP thing or just a game thing? I actually had another little glitch where when I tried to save it kept asking me if I wanted to delete the save game. I wandered about a bit and it came good again.
Having lots of fun playing! One of my favourite (and least favourite ;) ) things that you don't find in many CRPGS is that monsters are wandering around too and they find you! LOL we killed Gregor after coming across him unexpectedly (woohoo! First time! :D ) with everyone still breathing, and fortunately saved straight away because this team of 5 roaches came strolling up and wiped us out! A quick reload and we got the hell out of there... only to run into some slimes... doh! ;) |
Gregor can be very hard and really easy depending on your party level when you get there.

hey aelia jusa i also experienced the save delete error and just the same as you i walk around a bit and it solves itself.
but i never had that problem when i played on win 98 so it appears it is an xp thing. sure do hope they do come out with a wiz 9 [ 01-26-2004, 09:18 PM: Message edited by: JOE030303 ] |
