Spoiler (slight) space
. . . . . . . . Well, have you tried going southeast when you're in the swamp? It's probably more east than south, but the path is over there. |
And where are my manners?
Welcome to Ironworks, Seawitch! |
There is a SSE path from Crock's place in the swamp that goes to the SE wilderness.
Rynjin are most susceptible to fire spells. So if you have fireball, firebomb, psionic fire, etc., this is the time to use them.
Nightowl2
|
Soul shield can come handy as well, if you're low on the defensive side ;) And welcome to Ironworks :D

Welcome to Ironworks!
If your resistances are high enough then you can easily dispatch them. Nightowl mentioning fire spells is a good idea, although I found that the strongest among them can be taken out in the first round with high enough level instant kill spell if you are lucky, thus solving many problems. |
Thanks the info really helped!!!! Got to se wilderness, got the stone without having to fight. Is the other items in there worth fighting for???
|
Yeah, there's a very nice sword in there called Fang. Also a boomerang shuriken (endless shuriken, because it returns after throwing), but I never thought much of shuriken as a weapon myself. There are a couple of other items, but I don't recall now what they are.

Nightowl2
P.S. The fight in the temple is a tough one and calls for careful planning. |
Imho at least as useful as Fang is the Metal Belt for the gadgeteer. Add to that the fact that you can grab it without a fight as well, you'll have to do some careful running though.
'(spoiler space) ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' If you initiate combat not seeing sorceress et al, and run to the next pillar and hide behind the pillar the combat will end immediately. initiate again and run to the stairs, once more and climb the stairs, and there it is. You can even grab fang & shuriken with that strategy, but they're in the tomb, and you'll be using your last movement points to run around the last corner, so i wouldnt do it in ironman (unless i was prepared to fight). But if you're willing to reload in case of failure, you can grab those items as well (together with some armor). Just don't go too far inside or you'll have to fight the scythe&friends. A word of caution, if you do grab fang, you'll have to teleport out, i doubt strongly that you'll be able to combat run back into the open from there. If it's only the belt, you can run back outside (just be quick, you can grab stuff lying around in combat mode while the game is paused). |
Getting fang is guaranteeing death if you truly want it at this level, unless you follow Ferro's advice. Furthermore, what is your avg party level. If you are attempting to fight Rynjin at lvl 8-9, its gonna be hard as hell.
Some tips for fighting them are, Keep weak ppl in the center, and have people guarding you're left and right flank. If they get to you're wizards you are screwed. Soulshield is a blessing against them. Unfortunately, the Rynjin are one of the few BS species in the game, in the sense that they have extended legs that act like spears; you can't them from a distance but they sure in hell can hit you. I've found smelling salts are lifesaving in these battles. Rynjin have that annoying tendency to just knock your guys unconscious, and then tear apart your party. |
My levels are 15-17, but am having hard time with Rynjins in and around the huts in Bayjin. I figured out how to get Vi to go with me, but am still having a lot of trouble. Thanks for all the info. It has come in handy.

You could try getting as close as you can, initiating combat and either putting up bluffs or running in to fight them, depending on what type of party you're running.
|
Completely forgot to mention flash powder. Rynjins are fairly easily blinded, and flash powder isn't that hard to get. They tend not to run away when blind (completely contrary to more or less everyone else), but they won't hit you (as often).
|
Smelling salts is a good idea, if you have time to use em.. if you're fighting a whole bunch of Rynjin they'll have time to eat up a lot of hps off a few unconscious chars.
As someone said already though, Soul Shield is a necessity. I couldn't kill them without it Then again I was only at level 9-10 at the time, at higher levels it's easier I suppose. |
Soul shield and magic screen at top strength are essential. Check through your accessories for items that give bonuses to mental resistance.
Of course the best tip I can give you is if you can't seem to win, come back later. Many areas aren't traversable until you've picked up enough levels. |
Hey y'all! I've been away playing ToEE for a while and I just saw the the cool quickreply thing and had to use it! Hey Seawitch, how are ya'
|
Lol, very funny Variol. Yes, lots of new things to IW. Anyway.
I didn't realize you were in Bayjin already. Now then use these huts to you're utmost advantage if you can. barricade yourself in them, so one at a time can come. If you need healing. Run, back up a bit, and summon an elemental in the hut so he gets the damage while you heal and prepare once again. The huts IMHO, aside from providing items, are there to help with the battle. It'd be very BS to fight them without any good cornerage at all, even with a high party. |
I play it like SecretMaster.
I sneak in from the Swamp Tunnel, kill the sprites on the mountain and enter the first hut when no enemy is in sight. From then it's easy to kill the Rynjin and all the other critters. My party has Lvl 15 at this time usually. I don't use Flash Powder, because IMO it doesn't work well because the Rynjin fight like monks and monks can fight even when blinded. I don't use magic often on Bayjin. I have Soul Shield, Magic Screen and Armorplate up and I have some very good figthers in my party, so I kill most of them in melee. My record for Bayjin is L12 with a Duo and 13 with a Solo. I don't even bother with the Sprites. Once the Sentries are gone, i go up the beach and turn uphill past the faeries, and come over the hill on line with the Chest Hut. I come down and go around the Chest Hut and open the door. Whether or not other mobs join the battle, i squeeze past to the left of the sentry (Chest side of the hut) and into the corner. When the Sentry dies, anything else which engaged will take a few rounds to wander off and exit Combat. Then i check the Chest. If i got Light, then i open the door and start killing whatever wanders by.
For parties who are not interested in Light, i don't go to Bayjin until a bit later. |
My record for Bayjin is L13 with a 5 character party, who came in from the sea, after having killed Nessie and then slaughtered everything on Bayjin. Unfortunately they did not get any interesting items.
