Hi,

I started this own topic because I think it is different to a story of new party.

I discovered something that I never saw before : My party was Lvl 11 on the Arnika-Trynton-Road when I met two Lvl 15 Geomancers and their elemental. I rarely met +3 Lvl monsters ( I know that there is a usual difference of 2 Lvl between monster and party ) but in all of my games I never had a difference of 4 Lvl between party and enemy.

Has anyone discovered the same ?

Greetings

Edit : I know that "Fixed" monster can have a much higher Lvl than a party.

Just for clarification: How did you calculate the party level? everyone's the same level?

Loudhy 01-12-2004 02:24 AM

Yes, everyone has Lvl 11

When my solo faerie ninja/bishop was level 13, she occasionally ran into savant beserkers at level 17.

It is not a explanation for these occurences, but every area has a minimum and maximum monster level. If you were to get a level one party to the swamp or, even worse, onto ascension peak, the difference between party level and monster level would be (way) bigger than 4.

Both the Road zones are pretty famous for the occasional extreme mismatch. Arnika Road tends to be the worst that way, but A-T Road is close.

And if you got too early to Arnika you can with a lvl 7-8 party meet lvl 21 savant guys.

Hi.

Dplax:
I read that in an earlier topic . IIRC this extreme mismatch is a bug in the game. I mentioned that +4 difference on Arnika-Trynton-Road, because in all of the 15 or 16 month I playing the game now I never saw such a difference in this area and I never saw Geomancers there . I always thought that some areas ( like the roads ) have an upper monster limit, because later in the game ( with party lvl 20 or higher ) I never met monster on the same level.

Scatter:
Many of the posts in the past told about the problems on Arnika Road. I can't understand that. With my current parties ( mo magic users ) I always leave the monastery al Level 6 . I have not that experience with low levels in this map but I never met monster there with a difference higher than 2. ( Roustabout, Highwayman, Crimson Poppy, Iron Weed, Caustic Vine, Acidvine, Soldier Ant, Hardshell Crab, Venom Crab , Apus, Wasp and Cutpurses with a Sige ). That's all I can remember ( difficulty : normal ) .

Greetings

Yah, i enter AR at L5 most of the time, and likewise rarely have a bad balance, but as soon as you get over 6, it can really jump around.

I think it isn't so much a bug as a design oversight. You outnumber the geomancers and they don't have that many hitpoints. The elementals are fairly tough but are still only one monster. From a numbers/level/hitpoints balance it shouldn't be a problem, except that the geomancers are very strong magic users and can whipping rock you into submission in no time.

I think the main trouble you can encounter on the rad areas is when plants and melee monsters come against you simultaneously, ince the plant will put you out of action quite fast (high resistances aren't available yet), and then the meleers will finish you.

I often get overmatched on the roads. I don't think it's a bug or an oversight. I mean, knowing when to run away is part of the strategy aspect of the game. They (Sirtech) did include a 'run' button.

yeah, I agree. Like it says in the original Wizardry 1 manual, "Discretion is the better part of valor" I just think similar to Wiz7 where occasionally, you're cruising along thinking you're big and bad looking for a fight and then you run into a party of 8 Gozilli.

Loudhy 01-14-2004 02:40 AM

babar, I just remembered a fight against some godzilli in the greater wilds . can't remember the EXP-points my last surviving party member got but I do know he jumps up several levels.

It was a VEEEERRY long combat. the last godzilla often falls unconscious because he was exausted and my ranger hides in shadows and always strikes only after the enemy laid before him .Then he hides again and so on....

Ah, good old memories !!

A pair of godzilli was worth about 7 levels for a solo cahracter. And against a level 100+ character, they didn't hit at all.

In fact, one of the best spells against them was summoning a group of moths. Since they have worse Ac than your character, the godzilli often attacked them. And once i even saw a moth doing 5 damage to a godzilla.
