I think the time for an announcement of Wiz9 can be within a few months. Why? Because they've finally fixed their wiz8 tech support forum, which was hacked by MSN terrorists, and Sirtech's website is up and running again. Now, many forums for Wiz8 that i belong too all share the same thought, Wiz9 is coming. Lets look at it this way. First, may 5th, linda and ian currie say they are 100% sure that Wiz9 will be made. A few months later, Sirtech reopens their site thats been down for ages, and now all of the sudden have time to fix their tech support forum. It looks promising.

Ziggurat 10-25-2003 05:28 PM

Yay!!! I wouldn't hold my breath, tho. These complicated games take time to develop. And we do want them to get it right the first time. Yes?

SecretMaster 10-25-2003 05:44 PM

Me neither, but atleast Sir tech is up and running, so for me, the hopes are high. Now all they need is a good gaming engine, like the DOom III one or something good.

sultan 10-26-2003 04:22 AM

agreed, SM - if they could take the wiz 8 character system, with some tweaks and new options, but put it inside updated graphics and a faster combat system... *deep breath* whew!

Halsey 10-26-2003 08:54 AM

Again, agreed, Sultan. Most of us would pay for just an expanded version that included all of the original game (before it was rushed to completion). We'll hold our collective breath.

Rezdude03 10-26-2003 02:14 PM

What do you suppose Wizardry 9 could be about?

Loudhy 10-27-2003 12:55 AM

I read many posts in this forum about a new Wizardry part. But I cannot believe
that because IMO the serie was finished ( what can Cosmic Lords do in a new part ?? ) There are no different endings unlike in the other parts of the serie. I also think it wouldn't be great to return back to the sword maybe to fight a new enemy that steal the Forge ( again ? ) or fight a conquerer that throw us out of the Circle ( how ? ).

If there will be another game from Sir-Tech ( maybe similar ), I think they will start a new story.

sultan 10-27-2003 05:48 PM

agreed, loudhy. in a way, it sounds like they were capping off a great series in anticipation of never being able to do it again. so, assuming they do get the chance to build on this, i'd expect them to take the character engine and party concept into a new world of challenges.

i should say that, having never played wiz1-wiz7, i'm not tied to the cosmic lord, etc. stuff, either.

Richard_Cypher 10-27-2003 06:06 PM

I've played them all. Bought them all day of release, too. I love the series. More than any other game I've played. And I've learned something about SirTech. Wanna hear it?

Speculating on a release date is a worthless waste of time. They'll push it back and push it back. Each and every single game has been this way. You get your hopes up... run around in circles and make messy all over the carpet... you get nada. Never. Nunca. Nothing. My grandkids will be too old to play by the time they release the next game.

sultan 10-27-2003 08:26 PM

"many pardons, captain, but someone's cut the mainlines to our sails."

"tis not a worry, ensign. nature takes care of her own. let's sail the currents for a time."

welcome to IW, richard. i appreciate your frustration, and clearly you have more experience with sir-tech than i do. i'm sure the dose of reality will keep us all from getting overly excited.

still, i hope your experiences with wiz1-8 have been positive enough that you are still hopeful of wiz9 being released.

Richard_Cypher 10-28-2003 10:47 AM

Forgive me. Of course I am hopeful, and I apoligize if I threw a wet blanket on your exuberation. However, reality will set in about the 30th time you ax the guy at Best Buy if they have the new Wizardry, and he tells you he's never heard of it.

I really really like the series. Except for Return of Werdna. Playing the bad guy, and going backwards out of the dungeon was just plain goofy. And the stupid code books you had to read out of everytime you started sucked, too.

I was also disappointed with the import functions on this latest series. I had saved my characters faithfully since Cosmic Forge. In Crusaders, I made an Uber team. Called em my swim team. If anyone remembers, there was an ocean you had to get a boat across. And it really spoiled that portion of the plot if someone, say me?, took every member of their team into uber-swimming. One step into the river, and then back out, until the stats were up to 100. We could actually swim across the ocean in that one. All maxed out stats in every category, and I get some silly error message saying they can't be imported? That sucked.

It's been 15 years or so, but I don't think I had that problem with Cosmic Forge. I know I didn't going from Proving Grounds to KoD and Llgamyn. (And that was 20 years ago)

I know I should probably start a new thread, but did anyone else try to import and fail? It's a moot point now, as I've solved the new game some time ago, but I'd be interested in trying again if there were someone out there with advice for the barely computer literate.

My hope is that the new game is released soon enough that the media that I've saved these characters on isn't obsolete.

Scatter 10-28-2003 08:32 PM

I imported lot's o'parties, never failed. I copied them directly into the Imports folder in the Saves folder.
I had many Uber-parties, with class-rotated to have all stats max, and even some parties with hacked items; they all made it fine.

SecretMaster 10-29-2003 04:32 PM

The book... erm, has been put on a hold. I tried to get a lot done over the summer, but i started too late and school is now taking up most of my free time. Rest assured, when christmas and spring break rolls around, i'll be pumping out pages by the second.

I'm planning to take this book far. Not only will it cover wiz 8, but my own theory of Wiz9, which is secret...

Hear is my other theory for a possible wiz9.

Someone so powerful rises up somewhere in the universe, that he becomes almost unstoppable. The cosmic forge has no affect because he is from an entirely new universe, and has opened up a portal from this world to the others. Who can save the day, none but the cosmic lords, who realize alone their powers can stop them. Of course, after milleniums of writing, your back to level 1 because you kinda forgot how to fight.

sultan 10-29-2003 04:49 PM

...or maybe you have to fight this new superentity in their universe, so your existing skills and items arent entirely transferable...

Wild Rose 10-30-2003 12:07 PM

Love the idea Sulan. Opens up all sorts of possibilities for new roles etc. Hope they do thay one!!!

sultan 10-30-2003 04:53 PM

cheers, wildrose, but we've gotta give secretmaster the credit - he's the real guru

Rezdude03 10-31-2003 03:24 PM

i understand school has been a pain. take your time.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN Y'ALL!

Loudhy 11-01-2003 01:49 AM

The idea from SecretMaster about the story seems intersting. But wouldn't change such a story the meaning of the Wizardry series ? I like the combination of sword, shield and hightec and IMO the invasion of a superior race from an other universe will raise the game into pure SciFi .

the mighty stamar 11-01-2003 02:01 AM

Um...
The story of the Dark Savant may end in wiz 8.

But hes just one villain. Theres a whole universe of funky stuff going on in wizardry.

Theres a next story no problem.

SecretMaster 11-02-2003 01:00 AM

Or hey, maybe the new cosmic lords, i.e. wiz8, have decided to let the process of Ascending go on for millions of years. So, naturally, you play a party trying to ascend.

sultan 11-02-2003 03:23 AM

that's the ticket. as the new writers of the cosmic forge, your last party has set up an insidious series of challenges for those who would dare to join them at the cosmic circle.... perhaps, if you import a party, they lie in wait for your new band of heroes, who have to battle them for supremacy!

how cool would that be, taking on your former team controlled by the AI!

Megabot 11-10-2003 01:14 PM

Yeah that would not be bad, nothing is better than the Wizardry series!

morningstar.2 12-08-2003 02:46 AM

Took me 2 years to get my computer up to being able to handle Wiz 8, and it looks like it will take me ages to finish it! However it would be good to see another game. Hopeful?

JOE030303 12-10-2003 07:19 PM

hey have you guys heard something i havent?
i contacted sir tech right after wiz 8 came out and they informed me that there would be no more wiz games did i miss something?

sultan 12-10-2003 07:41 PM

after releasing wiz 8 sirtech went out of business and the website and support shut down.

but, the web and support are back up (apparently), and the creators have done some media interviews where they mentioned being in discussions that could involve something, but they cant say... all quite cryptic and meaningless, but just enough of a lead to give us faithful some hope... fingers crossed.

JOE030303 12-12-2003 07:48 AM

amen i play a ton of role playing games every year (and at my age too)
but wizardry 8 is my favorite and ff comes in a close second

brianward420 12-12-2003 06:18 PM

sultan, i thought of that exact same thing... that would be very cool to see happen as long as you didn't make your wiz 8 party ridiculously good... which in that case would still be cool cuz you would have a very hard challenge to work towards... alas we can only hope
