Edit:THIS TOPIC MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . What would you say is the hardest boss to face in the game. Just how about the toughest strongest most evil monster in the game. Nessie (she is tough!!!), Gregor, Dark Savant, Rapax Prince, Crock; just to name a few. It could depend on what level you are on when you fight them, their little quirks (like casting certain spells or their really high speed), or maybe just someone annoying. The true question is, in your honest oppinion which Boss is the hardest to face? After you answer that... how about the hardest type of random monster in the game (unicorns, brother rays, slimes, rapax, etc.). What monster do you basically hate to fight in a random encounter??? LET'S HEAR IT... [ 10-17-2003, 12:59 PM: Message edited by: allstargoaly ] |

For me is Nessie. She is ****. I am level 18 now and still afraid of her. |
Without a doubt in the southeast wilderness, the sorceress queen and her cohorts are always the toughest for me and the most annoying random encounters for me are any variety of spewing plants and the juggernauts. The plants are annoying because their thorns have so many really annoying status ailments and the juggernauts have tough hides and unless you have one of the really great weapons it's like needles pricking their skin. The juggernauts are tough to beat unless you're say around level 18 or higher and don't yield much XP's for beating them.

Toughest has got to be the Souleater on AP - It's insanity and turncoat burn through even the toughest anti-magic. Unicorns (Crystal, and otherwise) are a great aggravation since one stays and the others run away (casting spells as they go)
|
I'd say it's a tie between Nessie and the Souleater (I've always reloaded at least several times).I actually find the Savant a challenge because I ussually face him at level 21 or 22. He's got some nasty spells (nuclar blast has always killed my Mage)and is hard to damage (I don't know what I would do without armor melt). I never found Crock hard, though.

Nessie kicked my butt at 14ish, but went down easily at 19ish.
Hardest for me was probably the Djinn's party of friends - the rest of the boss fights - Savant, Gregor, Sedexus, were very easy - difficulty normal. The key was L7 Soul Shield + L4-5 Element Shield and L7 Screen, Armorplate, Blade, Missile. Only lost a person 2x to the Deathstings - I ended up selling off most of the Res Powders I found. I think I was just lucky with my party makeup. |
the rapax prince is really hard. so is pee-wee if you desiide to fight him (it).
death lords (is that what they're called) are really tough as well. |
For me:
. . . . . . . Spoiler . . . . . . . NPC (hard to say I have two ) Rapax Prince and Nebdar ( if you reach her with a too low level ) Others : Unicorns of all kinds( not because they are tough but they always run away immediatly after they made you insane in the first turn so you need much time to fight them and therefore I usually ignore them now ) |
The toughest single creature is soul eater.
The toughest fight is the sorceress queen by far. Took me about 20 times, and a serious game plan. |
Hello Mighty Stamar,
you're right. Souleater is a very hard enemy ( I forgot him, because I reached AP only two times in about 16 months of gameplay ) I read many posts about the problems with the Sorceress Queen. It's right you need a long time but IMHO it can be very easy. Maybe I start a topic about that Greetings [ 10-18-2003, 03:13 AM: Message edited by: Loudhy ] |
by changing the order i follow the main plotline (because boss levels are fixed) and using smaller parties (so we're higher levelled at any given point in the game), there actually arent any tough bosses anymore.
taking out the don at level 8-9 is tough. easy at 11-14. nessie is a bitch at lvl 14, easy at 19. the temple is suicide at lvl 14, easy at 18. etc. the toughest areas of the game for me? the arnika road, lvl 6, when you first leave the monastary. the rapax castle, lvl 12-13. |
thats cool. i like to stay on the safe side and wait til i get to a high level before taking on these hard bosses/areas.
|
For me Nessieat lvl 12

IMO, I hate any kind of long range fighters or magic casters.
Seekers, centipeeds, spiders, plants, apus, etc. These really bug me. They usually come in large numbers or in groups together (ex. 7 seekers and 7 centipeeds). What really gets you is their speed. They (for the most part) hit first; as well as, hit more often. Like I stated in another forum topic, magic casters always get the best of me (sprites of all kinds, sorcerers, etc). For some reason I can't take down magic users as easily as "melee" monsters. I mean if I would rather fight 50 Juggernauts then 1 Tree Sprite. Maybe it is just preference, but I have the hardest time shutting down casters. I don't know... It's just, I never really cared for magic. I don't use it as often as a sword or axe. I know that magic is really important in wiz8 but I don't look to use it as often as my melee weapons. I would spend more time looking for the "light sword" then obtaining fireball or tsunami. This might be the reason why I "let" these magic users do so well against my parties. |
ASG - if you're not going to develop magic, then it's highly recommended that you develop other ranged attacks (bow/throwing), so that your melee'rs can contribute after you (quickly) wipe out everything close. that can make those big groups of viper frogs in the swamp (for example) go much more quickly.
the hardest parties i've run have been all cursed/no magic. the cursed weapons are great when you close, and i've run up speed and senses to be able to do that quickly and go as far as possible when we do. but they spend a lot of time standing around taking damage after clearing nearby enemies. |
nessie was easy for me at lv 14ish (but i used this cheat thing) when i fought her without it, it was pretty tough, but i got her in the end. she is the toughest so far.
|
What cheat thing?
Why that is cheating. That is not nice. I once killed Nessie on lvl 12 and it was hell, but later for a level 15 party she went down easily. |
it does get easier to kill her the more times you beat the game.
|
Yes I find that that is why it is good to sometimes take the difficulty setting up a notch so that some fights don't become too much the same.
|
Actually a really tough random encounter that spawns occasionally
is the Sige/Geomancer with several Juggernauts. They always seem to show up on the Arkina/Trynton road and this is a decent fight if you are in the early stages. Like others have said though, the hardest single enemy for me was the Soul Eater. Hardest group encounter is a toss up between the Sorceress Queen and the Rapax Prince + His Army. Don Barlone can also be tough, but you can actually beat him with a low-mid level party if you use a canned elemental. [ 10-24-2003, 07:11 PM: Message edited by: elkston ] |
what would we do without those canned elementals?

i've beaten the don without canned elementals with small melee parties as low as level 10-11. the key is having access to all the buffs, particularly from the priest (superman, GA, rest all, heal all), alchemy so that everyone has a couple stacks of restorations, and use haste potions.

I also normally don't use summon elementals, except to gain some cheap XP (kill them myself). Had to use them in 3 fights with my pure spellcaster party, though. As for Don, i killed him twice in (expert) ironman with a level 9-10 party, consisting of fighter, rogue and bishop (and a useless fairy ninja). Used some superman potions and haste potions. (Why twice? First time i tried this i noticed later that i played in normal instead of expert. I quit the game and restarted) |
well i dont use them often either because im too nervous ill need them later. they just seemed to be the talk of this post. yeah, i beat don without canned elementals too.

Has anyone fought the ArmeGazers at AP? These are always really tough, and get tougher the more powerful your party becomes. ArmeGazers cast a really strong insanity gaze which penetrates even high level resistance. Your characters turn on each other, and the more powerful you are, the more you kick your own butt. Your casters spend their whole time casting sane mind, while your critical strike characters wipe out your party. On the plus side, worth about 5 megs of exp each! Fun fun fun!
|
It's not a boss, but the hardest regular creatures for me are the Deathsting Apuses. They come in groups of about 6 or 7; each one gets to attack 800 times per round and each attack has a chance of killing or severely poisoning. Uggh!
|
For my parties it's Gregor. Frequently one of his paralyzing attacks gets through and at least one resurrection powder is needed.
|
Probably Nessie, although I haven't really fought her yet. The hardest part about her, IMHO, is that you have to equip the scuba gear in one of your slots, and that 99% of your RPC's won't go there.
The Don was also very tough with his poisoned daggers and insane dodge chance. I think I slowed him then got lucky with a couple of hits. Too bad he didn't drop anything decent that I don't have. |
Hardest boss (single enemy) for me would probably be Gregor, simply because I can never seem to prepare for him properly. Only using the stuff Burz sells severly limits my power. I'd need a few good concussion powders, at that level, to really deal to him convincingly, but the only one in the monastery is in the room behind him... I always find that so ironic.

It depends on your level. Armegazers are the hardest in the game (lev 50?). I also wonder if they learn and get harder from previous battles. (There was a critter in a town in M&M9 that got stronger the more you fought it, you had to kill it right away or not at all). Gregor is quite deadly even when you are at an equal level. If your levels and protections are not high enough, any of the mondo critters mentioned above (and the Soul thing in AP, Al-Sedexus, PeeWee) can be formidable. Hey, even a Hogar or a Blinding Wasp can wipe you out early! It depends on how many chances you want to take in the game.
But there are some areas with few choices. A few set spots where you have to fight to continue the game plot. These are the hardest because we are all eager to make progress, no? So sometimes we try too early. For example, I don't have a problem with Tanto Wasps anymore because I know they are at the Mines and make sure I am strong enough before I go. Of course, a person starting the game for the first time will know none of this unless they check out sites like this! [ 12-16-2003, 07:19 PM: Message edited by: Ziggurat ] |
I guess anyone's hardest boss would also depend on their individual party make-up. I would imagine that psionics with wrist rockets and medusa stones would simply laugh at an Armegazer (maybe), while dual-wielding samurai would do their darndest to slice each other up. What I wouldn't give for a "Restore All" spell.

SPOILER
- - - - - - - Keep reading.. - - - - - - - Read it... *shakes fist* - - - - - - - OK, here we go. The hardest boss I remember was the Dark Savant, since he was about 10 levels higher than me, being level 30 and all |
I've had more parties die from Gregor than from any other thing, Nessie coming in a weak second. I'm usually too hard to kill by the time i get to Ascension, even if i'm young when i get there.
