Where is the best place to find one?
Wherever you can find vampire bats. Usually, road to Trynton or in the Umpani caves. Even so, it can be a LONG time before that wing drops. You don't want to know how many times I went back and forth to get that [censored] wing (Trynton road). Which is why I only had the chain made once, nice though it was.

The arnika-trynton road?
i've run across vampire bats only rarely along the anika-trynton road and in trynton at higher levels, but i've found vampire bats pretty regularly in the "unexplored" umpani caves (even if their wings arent the easiest to get!)
K, so i found a group of vampire bats inside the mt gigas caves. I have saved right before it, if i keep killing them and reloading, eventually one should drop a wing right... Anyone know how frequent the drop is?
Are there "bat vampires" as well as " vampire bats" ???
Yes, there are. Only one of these types drops the wings (don't remember which one)
IIRC the vampire bats. Hence the "vampire bat wings"
Yeah, it's the vampire bats, so be sure that's a group of vampire bats you're saved by (that came out rather oddly, hmmmm).
As for drops, it could be awhile, or it could be quick. My experience was: a long wait. I hope you won't have to wait as long.
Nightowl2
I remember going to Trynton from Arnika in my first game. I was level 7 or 8 at the time, and I encountered a group of Vampire Bats. I finally beat them after two reloads and two wings out of the 4 bats dropped. So at the time I did not think much about the fact that the wings dropped. Every game since then I have not encountered them on the Arnika-Trynton road, only in the Umpani area and I have yet to get another drop from them (though I have not tried to reload a battle many times).
Has anyone else found that the vampire bat wing dropped easily when going to Trynton from Arnika? What level were you at? Just wondering if this was just luck, or if it is actually easier to get the wing on the Arnika-Trynton road. |
The last two times I ran into vampire bats on the Arnika-Trynton Road I got a wing. In earlier games, I had the same frustration. Sometimes you have to fight 4 parties of the suckers. heh heh. Mt Gigas is the more plentiful site, but there is an optimal level to be, something like lev 10 +/- 2. The bat vampires are 3? levs higher and can drain you easier. I hold my breath when fighting them, we don't usually have more than 1 or 2 Renewals at that point. I do recommend getting a wing early on if you can, they are harder to find if you get too advanced.

If it's tied to level (very silly, if so), that explains why we had such trouble nabbing a wing. You don't learn about it until Ferro mentions it, and by then we were Templars, and somewhat beyond level 10. Something to keep in mind if I decide to replay the game.

Managed to get one on my first encounter with them, but my party was level 30 so i cant see it being tied to level. Unless i got really lucky, which tends to happen rarley to me in this game.
Yeah, that's a funny thing. I sometimes have 4 or fives of them and this time, at Lvl 22 I have 0! The Mt. Gigas and Arnika-Trynton road locals. would be my first choices. If you do the road, try to camp a lot a night. I think this will get you results faster.
