Ok, first post, here goes.
1) I just got set and return portal spells for my bishop, and am now wondering where I should set the portal? None of my other group members have portal spells yet. 2) The group is at levels 11-12 or so right now. Any tips on a good spot to get some good xp in easy fights? I'm a character development freak, and unless I hit the level cap, get all the spells etc, I feel like I'm missing out on something probably should have started a smaller group than 6 chars, but anyway, any hints? 3) If I change a characters class, I lose the possibility of developing the previous class's special skills, right? So if I swap my samurai to ninja, I better max out stealth before swapping back, or it's no use? 4) Tried forming a 1 man group last night, but got wasted by the second group of crabs. If I want a solo faerie ninja, should I start him/her out as a different class, and the swap later? Tips? Links to any site explaining how this kind of "group" should be played in the beginning? Now let's see, what else did I have in mind... Oh yea. What does Hex do exactly? My bard has the bag pipes that cast it, and it seemed to me like it didn't affect enemy in any way, other than the small pentagram (was it?) appearing above their heads... Thanks for any help/tips/clues for the clueless |
1) I just got set and return portal spells for my bishop, and am now wondering where I should set the portal? None of my other group members have portal spells yet.
just cast set portal anywhere you want ( you can only use it once at a time, if you cast set portal again it will delete your ealier portal ). to return back to the place. cast return portal. 2) The group is at levels 11-12 or so right now. Any tips on a good spot to get some good xp in easy fights? I'm a character development freak, and unless I hit the level cap, get all the spells etc, I feel like I'm missing out on something probably should have started a smaller group than 6 chars, but anyway, any hints? you want easy fights? go to road to arkania ( sp? . it's just outside of monastery ) . walk along that road to fight some easy critters. 3) If I change a characters class, I lose the possibility of developing the previous class's special skills, right? So if I swap my samurai to ninja, I better max out stealth before swapping back, or it's no use? Once you change class, you cannot use that former class skill anymore. 4) Tried forming a 1 man group last night, but got wasted by the second group of crabs. If I want a solo faerie ninja, should I start him/her out as a different class, and the swap later? I don't know what's so good about a faerie ninja. it didn't work well for me. faerie lord does and I have finished my game with it. probably because lord got hp regeneration. ;) |
1. set a portal in T'Rang Teleporter room, in lower Marten's Bluff, it helps a lot, because you can go to vital places from there (Arnika, Umpani, Rapax)
2. Swamp is a good place to practice some combat skills and gain some nice amounts of XP too 3. yes |
3) If I change a characters class, I lose the possibility of developing the previous class's special skills, right? So if I swap my samurai to ninja, I better max out stealth before swapping back, or it's no use?
> Once you change class, you cannot use that former class skill anymore. Not true. You can't improve the skill anymore though. If you switch to Ninja and develop stealth to a 50, then switch back to Samurai, you'll always have the 50 stealth skill and will use it. It just won't go up anymore via practice and you can't put points into it on level ups. The unique skills though (like say auto-penetrate and thrown criticals for a ninja) would go away completely. |
Yah, exactly. I have all my chars spend a level as monk, ninja, or rogue, learning how to make themselves hard to hit. It's the one skill you can let them practise while you sleep, and then whatever class they go to still has the 10 more AC.

Now let's see. Portal to T'Rang once I get there. XP and skills at swamp, good good, was thinking of heading there anyway, if nobody would have had good xp spot suggestions
The skills stuff was just as I excpected, thanks for confirming that On that subject tho. Can I get more than one increase in a certain skill during one fight? Let's assume I switch my samurai to a ninja. Then I hunt down a group of lowly mobs and kill all but 2 or 3 of them, and switch the entire group to defend mode adjusting the formation so that the remaining baddies beat my temporary ninja. If I let this go on for, umm, a loooooong time, could I get stealth maxed in this 1 combat? Thanks for all the answers so far ;) [ 06-04-2002, 01:51 AM: Message edited by: Bomb ] |

Instructions please Edit: and would the shield, iron skin and refelxtion skills go up the same way? Edit2: nevermind, saw your post in the bard thread. I hope someone still reads this thread if I put a reply here
Are there any good axes in the game? I've been practising swords with one of my fighters and the other one's been using axes so that they wouldn't be fighting over same weapons, but I'm beginning to wonder if this was a mistake. Should put a sword in his hand A.S.A.P? [ 06-05-2002, 05:49 AM: Message edited by: Bomb ] |
There are a few, one very nice one later in the game in the Sea Caves; early on Antone makes a decent one, and another is in a cave on the road to Arnika from the Monastery. There are more good swords though.
|
So all is not completely lost I guess. I think the axe skill is at the point, where I can't put any more points to it at level ups (75+), so should I stick a sword in his hand and start improving that until I get a good axe? I can't decide... ;)
|
Well skills can still go up to 100 via practice - and the higher the skill is the slower it is to rise. I would say it depends on your roleplaying preference, I've played dwarf characters who've used axes and they are fine - you can also dual wield (the best axe is one handed) so you might want to train that instead, a mace or dagger is a good secondary weapon choice.

I have a newbie question. How do I get into the temple in the SW wilderness? Maybe this is a dumb question, because I haven't seen it answered anywhere, but I can't find a way in. There's a nice ramp up the side, but it only leads down a mountain trail on the other. I don't understand!
|
Whoooop. Nm. Either I'm dumb or easily confused by the visuals in this game...
|
Can't respond to the 'Dumb', but lemme tellya about visuals:
S P O I L E R S P A C E Marten's Bluff and the steep, narrow ramps (to the idol) i only found incidentally in combat... |
Lots of folks miss the path. From that Gazebo-thing, after you fight whatever guards it (can't recall what was in it), you have to sorta climb over a low wall (or jump over) to get in the path that will lead to the temple. You can also jump out the back side of the Gazebo, I suppose.
You can ambush the three "guards" outside at long range with bows and keep sniping and almost nothing they try has the range to do any damage to the party. They don't seem anxious to try closing in to shorter range, either. K. - |
Oooh yea. Got Ego Whip (along with several others from Crock) last night and do I love that spell. I can see my Bishop's mental skill soaring skyhigh in no time
Got summon elemental too, and suddenly I don't feel like the bishop's divine magic skill is high at all at 79 or so. How high divine magic do I need to cast that baby at higher power levels without a high risk of failure? I think power level 3 is the last green one right now :( |
I think, even if your bishop had 125 divinity and 125 divine, he wouldn't be able to safely cast more than power 3 (maybe 4). This depends on the level of the bishop. If he/she gets one more level, he she will be able to cast at one higher power level.
|
Oh. Was this explained in the manual?
*starts to rummage thru a pile of paper trash* I guess there were some stuff I must have missed, need to re-read it, and stop asking stupid questions. If it wasn't tho, I think I'll pass on the re-reading |
