If the Lord of The RIngs is a big success, Unlike D&D the movie, God I thought That movie sucked, I think the folks at TSR should, and I stress Should Work on another movie portraying what is now the most popular D&D character. I think Drizzt has even Surpassed Eliminster and And Raistlin Majere. In one of the posts someone had stated that if a movie was to be made they cant screw up the characters Like Artemis Entreri. HOW TRUE, The dude is just a beast!!! Drizzt's only competition, and They cant screw Up the Big, THe Bad THe Drow Uthegental, House Weapons Master, Oh Yeahhhhh!!! I think that the ICewind Dale Trilogies and the Dark Elf Trilogies Surpass even the Dragonlance Series in Character Personality (except for TAS of course) and in popularity. I would definetely have Dreamworks involved in a big way if this movie were ever to develop.

<font color="white">Yeah, I think someone should make a movie like that.
It sounds like so much fun! BTW, love your sig!</font> see ya! |
Hey, Tas.
GREAT userID. He was definitely my favorite from Dragonlance. I did a Post a few weeks ago entitled R.A. Salvatore fans that addressed this same topic. As you may know, Salvatore is writing one of the books in the ongoing Star Wars series. I read an interview about it on his website sometime last year. Salvatore said that it was, of course, a huge honor to be approached by Lucas and Spielberg to write a book in one of the most successful storylines ever. Apart from that, though, Salvatore admitted that he hoped Lucas and Spielberg would be impressed enough with his contribution to take a look at some of his other works....specifically, the Icewind Dale Trilogy. If LOTR lives up to it's potential at the box office, there may be a surge of interest in the fantasy genre of movies. The fan base is certainly there (this forum alone has over 5100 members...Yaaaa). And NOBODY is better at fantasy and fiction than Lucas and Spielberg!!! I sincerely hope this comes to pass. |
Yup, I think Salvatore's best work was the Dark Elf Trilogy. He just made the reader get so immersed in the underdark world. I hope that lucas does create Menzoberranzan and I think your right about if LOTR is a success, I think other Producers/ Filmakers will have an interest in other fantasy type Movies. I cant wait for Episode 2 of the Star Wars series. I hope that bodes well for Salvatore.

I'd prefer to see the dragonlance series in video. I always call my mage Raistlin. He fought the Dark Queen so he's pretty tough and he turns out good in the end. He never was completely evil. Just devoted to the magic. And he's just cool. Dragons are scared of him. Unless they did the life of Dizzt from where he becomes good and a few gof his battles there won't be much story line.
|
it think it would be nice if someone wrote an original screen play for DnD that didnt suck as bad as the last one, and cameo apearreances from various heroes like drizzt and elmister would make a great movie with the write script.
|
i think they should have Ray Park (DarthMaul) play Artemis Entreri. he is good at playing a badguy. they need to make a rated R D&D movie, that has cool character, a sweet script, and make it about two hours. of course, it would need to have about four sequals, but that is the point. of course they could learn magic, skills, and get new and better magic, weapons, and armor as they travel. that would rock.

Apart from the Duel of the Fates sequence and the pod-race, everything else was pretty sucky. KILL JAR-JAR NOW!!!! And if Lucas is one of the masters of Fantasy and Sci-Fi, how is it he could only come up with "Attack of the Clones" for Episode II's title? If they were to make another D&D based movie, I hope they give it to a young director with some fresh vision, who would get good actors and some good scripts, not the Hollywood tripe that was Episode I. I would much prefer better acting and a movie that is not 95% digitally edited than some mega-bucks movie that leaves you feeling hollow inside. Gods but Episode I was SUCH a crappy special-effects fest that I got sick of hearing about it. The ONLY way to save Episode II is to calm down on the CGI apps, concentrate a bit more on story and character, and have young Anakin the Padawan break out the saber in a fit of Dark-Side induced anger and slice up Jar-Jar into sushi. |
if you wanna make a novel into a movie, drizzt books would be good for a story centered around one guy, but for an epic sotry worthy of sequals, the DL chronicles would be a great choice.

TAS YOUR A TRAITOR!! Raistlin rules Drist sucks!! J/K with ya never read any of the forgotten realms books. So can't place any judgement.
Now the person before me talked bad about star wars titles. Let see if these sound like cheezy titles a New Hope, and Empire strikes back. both those titles sound cheezy to me. but the thing is you was to young to place critize the title when those movies came out. After you seen the movie you loved it. SO QUIT BASHING THE TITLES sheesh. Yes the phantom menace played towards the kids. But i think your going to be dispointed with attack of the clones due to the fact this movie is going to more of a romance movie, and your g/f or wife will like it. But you do have to understand one thing though you won't see much charater developement in this new one either because all focus will be mostly on Anikin. Remember these movies is about Anikin Skywalker. Would love to see a much better D&D movie made. would prefer Dragonlance. But if it was going to be as cheezy as that other D&D movie then they shouldn't make it at all. |
Sorry man, but titles like "A New Hope" and "Return of the Jedi" are a bit more inventive than "Attack of the Clones." At least the first two evoked images of rebellion and adventure, the new title could indicate a medical horror story propagated by abortion-clinic bombers.
And as I understood them, the movies were about the characters, not the technology or what could be done with CGI. The first trilogy broke new ground in movie effects, but you still had GREAT performances from Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and even Mark Hamill. The original had style, panache, and was intended for ALL audiences, not the 5-12 toy market. I will be sorely dissappointed, as I'm sure many others will, if the movie turns out as you say, with little to no character development. If that's the case, how does Anakin ever turn to the Dark Side, or rebel against his master, or a love triangle emerge? Perhaps you should find out more about how a movie works before you speak about its merits or shortcomings. |
I do love the DL series, dont get me wrong just look at my name, But as far as reading, for all who havent read R.A. Salvatore books READ THEM!!! His telling of the Dorw way of life and the city easily paints a great picture and I think out writes Margaret Weiss.
Honestly, I think My favorite Characters in his series are the evil Dudes, Uthegental and Artemis. Has anyone read the new book that was just released? If so, I heard that Wulfgar is alive?? True? Tas |
Hey Tas, you ever read the Eternal Champion series by Michael Moorcock? I have nearly all the compilations in the series, and Moorcock's writing style is one of the most enjoyable I've read in a long time. I highly recommend the Elric series if nothing else, as he's one of the more "tragic" heroes in the series.
|
YOu know no I havent read that, BUt a friend a long time ago told me about him and I just forgot, I will pick up those books this Weekend. THanks for remiding me about Elric,
Tas |
Several books in the series can usually be found at Barnes & Noble.
Just an FYI! ;) |

The first movie we see young Anakin with lots of FEAR. Fear is the first step that leads to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, and anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering. The second movie you will see Anakin move to the second step towards the darkside. Attack of the clones title. It mean that the clone wars is beginning. If you recall in Star Wars A New Hope old Obi Wan told Luke that his father was a hero in the clone wars. Second movie you will also see Anakin fall in love with the Queen even more charater development. Even though APM was geared towards kids adults understood what was going on. At least I did. |

Tas<hr></blockquote> Actually, Tas, that book came out about a year ago. It was the 3rd or 4th in the new series featuring our IceWind Dale Heroes. Are you sure you want to know the answer? OK. YES, Wulfgar is alive and eventually rejoins his friends....but his personality is MUCH different. I won't give away the plot line, but it is a good book. The Silent Blade leads to his return followed by The Spine of the World which deals exclusively with Wulfgar coming to grips with his personal demons. I just got the latest book in the series The Servant of the Shard from Amazon.com. I also agree completely with Tas about Salvatore's writing style. He is - IMHO - the BEST fantasy writer since Tolkien. I have loved every one of his books that I have read (and I've read most of them). All of his books are a "fast read" with exciting characters and loads of action. I highly recommend them. You can go to Amazon.com and look under his name, or even visit his official website to learn more about the man himself. |
well since everyone seems to agree that drizzt and his adventures are the best i believe he would represent ad&d best on the big screen, i've never read r.a. salvatore, but i have read the DL saga, and many of the books that follow that world, thought they are great stories, the large party of main characters and the epic level of the story line would not tranfer very well to the big screen. I do love dragon lance, but this is exactly why i wouldnt want to seen it on the big screen, i dont think there are the right people out there that could do the movie justice. it wold end up an underdeveloped hack job like the first d&d movie. It would be too long in order to develope each of the character the way the books do. And if they made it short it would be as shallow as the other crappie one they relaeased. I think i may get around to reading the drizzt series, any ideas as to where i should start would be apreciated.

In the entire movie, that is it. The kid races pods at 4 feet of the ground at 600 mph, and joins up with some Jedi. I realize the significance of the title, and I know about the Clone Wars. My problem with the title is that it is so generic and lame for a Star Wars movie. Why not: "Send in the Clones" or "Killer Clones from Outer Space", these two are as original and well thought out as "Attack of the Clones." Why not "Inception of Evil", because its the beginning of the Empire, and the Clone Wars are basically a fart compared to the oppression and tyranny that the Emperor is able to bring about. And my point about the 5-12 range is that it was geared towards children as a marketing gimmick to sell toys. Of course adults understood it, APM had the barest excuse for a plot I've seen in a movie. You'd have to be a total moron not to see that Jar-Jar, the sub scene, and various other points were excuses for Legos and Action Figures. |
Actually Servant of the Shard has been out for quite a while, for anyone who wants to know its another book without Drizzt!!! But i must say that it was one of his best. It centers around Jaralaxe and Artemis, the two best characters along with drizzt in my opinion. The newest book is out and its called Sea Of Swords. Enjoy

I think that a Dragonlance movie would be really cool but also Forgotten Realms. The people at TSR need to do another D&D movie and make up for that other *cough* movie. I heard that there was going to be a Forgotten Realms TV series anyone else???

Star wars toy's were such a hit that by the time G. Lucas made return of the jedi he made those cute little ewoks for kids. So actually if your my age mid 20's we are responsible for why star wars geared to 5-12 range. |
