Ah, Excalibur, sword of kings...
Now that my Drac fighter has this baby, along with his ever-increasing Powerstroke skill (and a song of Armormelt or two, courtesy of my handy bard), well, life is good (for me) and short (for almost everyone else). 20+ Rapax of various occupations? How would you like that hamburger cooked? Golems alore? Don't waste my time. Yep, life in the melee lane is nice round these parts, especially with my Bloodlust equipped Samurai and Saint Bastard wielding Lord thrown in. Plus my bud RFS-81, armed with a handy mystic spear. El Dorado was El Shikabob in record time... :D |
Ahhhh.......how sweet it is!
Isn't it great to finally kick some monster butt!!!?? After so long of running in terror, trying to find a corner to hide in....... My party is level 19-20 in the Rapax courtyard...even tho' the enemy numbers is staggering.....my front row fighters are finally slicing and dicing like uhm......well.....warriors or something.....*evil laugh* Let them die........let them all die... |
gawd, i am so jealous. i have killed nessie 10 times and i still do not have found excalibur in that stupid chest. i am now to the point that i am doing one nessie a day to see if i am lucky because i cannot afford to kill nessies all day .. and i keep telling myself "if excalibur is not in the chest this time, i will not try again". ofcourse i try again.
i hated the fact that i missed excalibur in wiz7, so i _shall_ find the damn sword in wiz8. |
You're not alone Lok. I've had no luck at all with the random items and whats worse is I sold the items that Ferro needs to make the custom items.
Still, my guys get the job done no worries. |

What I did was 1) Save my game just outside the Bayjin Shallows to allow randomness 2) Save my game under a different name just after entering the Bayjin Shallows. I had my buff spells up and also cast Chameleon just before dropping down onto Nessie's area. When I hit the ground, I headed to the right and can make it behind the rocks without Nessie seeing me. Normally I can make it all the way to the other end of the rocks without her spotting me. At that point if she didn't initiate combat, I did and sometimes I surprised her. I then ignored her completely and each round I did a flat-out run for the cave with the chest. I normally lost one or two characters by the time I got into the cave and waited for combat to end (it usually took a total of 5-6 combat rounds from start to finish). Once combat ended, normally with Nessie right outside the entrance to the cave, I would go over to the chest and open it to see what was inside. If it wasn't something I wanted, I reloaded from step 1 and had only taken 5 minutes to get to that point since I didn't waste tons of time killing Nessie. If it was, I reloaded from step 2 but this time I killed Nessie instead of ignoring her. I ended up with five different saves post-Nessie that I then had to decide between as to what I wanted to keep. I ended up keeping the one with a Ring of the Road and Tinker's Carryall Band in it as well as an Amulet of Healing because I wanted those more than I wanted Excalibur. I don't remember how many times I ended up reloading from step 1 but it was under 30 I know so the total time spent to get what I wanted was maybe 2 hours tops. Besides, when I got down to attack the Buccaneer Ghosts, I knew I could get myself a *Light Sword* or two if I played it right. I was correct and ended up with not one, not two, but FOUR *LS*, two of which I later sold so I could play with the Ivory Blade. (My four sword-wielders ended the game with 2 *LS*, the Ivory Blade and Bloodlust, which actually did more damage than the *LS* because of the Berserk-mode - especially since I didn't have any Fighters who could go Berk naturally). The first time I went into Bajin, I found a light soward and 2 light shields. Now I have a new party and have gone in cold at least 10 times and found nothing but junk. I think the game knows that you are running a second party and punishes you. I should have just kept the first party, they killed Nessie in three or four rounds with no deaths at lvl 18. I have a feeling I'm not going to repeat that either...
|
At LAST i also have some luck in this game this is my 4 time playing the game and guess what? In Nessie chest i find "Excaliber" sword he he!And the Buccaners gost drop the *Light**Sword* fist time ha ha! and in Bayjin I got another *Light**Sword* and i get the *Light**Shild* and Don in Trynton droppet the Cane of Corpus so my Ninja have a good weapon to! So now i am ready for the Rapax and A.P.
|
Where in Bayjin did you get a Light Sword ... never got a single one on my first run through and got the Ring of the Road/Tinkers' whatsit combo from Davy Jone's Locker :(
|
I found it in one of the two chests. I don't remmeber which one. But like I said, I saved just before entering with a new (different) party and have reentered at least 10 times and never found anything really nice in either chest
|
First time through, I got the Ring of the Road extra value pack in Davy Jone's locker; had to reload (and kill Nessie again) to get Excalibur... I didn't know about the 'light sword', guess I'll have to find that next time...
|
KraGorn the *Ligth**Sword* you can get it from the Buccaner`s Ghost or in the chest in the hut in Bayjin! But i think the "Excaliber" sword is better than the *Ligth**Sword* AND the NAME of the sword IS: EXCALIBER not EXCALIBUR!!

Personally I like the Giant Sword more. My Mook Ranger kicks some serious butt with it, he KO's most mobs in the first round with it! Thinking of replaying with a 4 Mook party and getting them all one of these.

But Rokenn, what can a Giant Sword do to most mobs in the first round?
Kidding. I like the Giant Sword, too. [ 02-06-2002: Message edited by: Solomon ]
|
Yeah, you're being kinda vague. I still don't see what you're point is....
|
Over the last month on various forums I keep seeing the Mook Ranger thing brought up over and over. My question is, why do you want to take a bow out of your ranger's hands? Yeah the sword is nice, but by using it you're robbing your ranger of his critical ability. Why not just make a Mook Fighter and have him use it? Makes no sense to me...
P.S. That's exactly what I did. But you know what? By the time I found the Giant Sword I was pretty happy with my Saint Bastard/Dragon Kite Shield combo and my 25+ AC. So I'm not even using the darn thing |

Even if I had it's sad you feel so obsessed with correct spelling you have to shout to people to tell them they're wrong. |
He he Jon Smallberries i think that ""Excalibre" sound more like "Spanish" than Engelish! but that is it!! :))
|
To KraGorn i ONLY trie to make that name of the sword rigth, bacuse in this forum i have not seen no one to write this name rigth so i think i should use this uppertunity to fix that so all of you knowe the rigtht name of the sword nothing else!:))
|
No shouting from me, I promise. I've never gotten a sniff at that sword, anyway.
Grungepopp, I think people figure that Mooks make good rangers (which is true) and as an added bonus, they can get a good sword to use, too. I don't think anyone gives up their bow when they find a giant sword, they give up the longsword or fancy pointed stick or whatever it is that they've carried up until then. It's nice to have a something that packs a punch as your fallback. After all, even the best ranger can run out of arrows... |

Having a good backup weapon is also nice when you are fighting stuff with missle shield up.
|
Right, swap weapons, shout "Deflect this!," and go to town on the head of the enemy.
Oh, and J.S., that grammar policing is funny, but Megabot is from Norway, after all. He does pretty well for a nasty taffer. It does bring up the question of whether he should have fired that first shot, though... [ 02-06-2002: Message edited by: Solomon ]
|

You're taking this way too seriously and way too personally.
That said, you aren’t even entirely correct. Excalibur is the commonly accepted spelling, sure, but virtually every version of the legend used a different spelling. Geoffrey of Monmouth called it “Caliburnus”, Bulfinch called it “Escalibar”, sometimes it’s “Escalibor”, and some people have even suggested that it’s simply a more modern corruption of “Caladbolg”. Who are you to make snide comments about Sirtech’s choice of spelling? And in other news… I always try to keep an extended weapon equipped on my ranger, for reasons already mentioned. If the ranger happens to be a Mook, then the Giant’s Sword works quite well. I’m also not entirely convinced that a ranger does more damage with arrows than he would do with a good melee weapon, in any case. |
Whatever you call it, I still haven't seen it.
On rangers, you're right about the damage (even the best arrows & bow don't do that much damage), but it's the instakills that make carrying all those arrows around worthwhile. |

No offence intended, I realize that English is probably not your first language if you're from Norway. BTW, just got the ivory blade tonight - now we'll see if my Lord is worth a @%$! |
Hi again :))
The sword have the same name in Wizardry 7 to, so that is the way Sir-Tech like it to be called! But i knowe i have seen in another game that they have a sword called "excalibur" to. And to you Jon Smallberries i am from Norway that is way my english is not so good he he but i can se all of you understand what i am writing anyway!:) [ 02-07-2002: Message edited by: Megabot ]
|
I am almost wishing I tried out "excalibur" in my game, lol I got it from nessies chest and never even equipped it. I was running a lord as my only big hack and slash guy and didnt want to use a 2 handed sword (and lose my duel weapons skill I had worked so hard to build)
|
Now I'm p*ssed! Struggle through most of the friggin' game with Bloodlust as my only decent sword, and now I that my party is lvl 20/21 and getting close to the endgame, I've got Excaliber, the Ivory Blade (thanks Ferro), the Muramoso Blade, the Saint Bastard, Bloodlust, and the Bushido blade! Not enough fighter types to go around!!!
Ah well, I've got my Drac fighter using Excaliber, my Lord has the Ivory Blade (making him - finally! - worth something in melee; I screwed up his development big time), and my ninja has the Muramoso and an enchanted wazurki (sp?). Al-Sedexus didn't make it through round 3 Now, where's that bubblehead Dark Savant character? ;) |
'Tis true that having a backup weapon for missile shields is a good idea. And mooks do make adequate rangers (I prefer felpurrs or hobbits personally). However, before I had to restart (a story for another time, but it involves the mysterious disappearance of all my save games involving my highest level party) my ranger was around 15th or 16th level. With just the double shot crossbow and some decent ammo, he was dishing out the damage. Maybe not as much as the sword, but 6 chances to critical hit were starting to pile up. But off the tangent and back on to the topic, my ranger carried around his sharpened stick as a backup extended weapon; and he never used it. At that point in the game (Bayjin) I had yet to run into too many monsters that cast missile shield. What does that mean? It means my ranger's polearm skill was less than five. So if I was using two handed swords the whole time instead of polearms, my sword skill would still be less than five. At that point I think I'd rather take my chances with the missile shield.
Of course, if you develop both weapons (at a slower pace) I guess you cover your butt. But is it worth it? |
