April Ryan 12-13-2001 04:02 PM

do u guys know that... u can kill brekek over and over again and go back to crocker(if u didn't kill him) and get 75k or 750k (i forgot) of xp.... ain't this supposed to be a one time quest?? and the funny thing is that crocker repeats the same msg.. even though no one is kidnapped... definitely a BIG bug

and killing brekek is a piece of cake for level 10 and above...

bug yeah

BlackRaven 12-13-2001 04:09 PM

Yeah, I killed him for the second time but have yet to go back to Crock. Sounds like the "Mumphry" (sp) bug in Wizards & Warriors.

Vaprakgruumsh 12-13-2001 04:14 PM

I need to make my way back to the swamp! ;)

MagiK 12-13-2001 04:46 PM

Mumphry was not a "Bug" in W&W it was a tribute to Murphy's ghost in Wiz 1 The Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. Murphy's ghost was a ghost that you could exploit to get a few levels in Wiz 1, Mumphry was sort of a tribute to him

Artaniss 12-13-2001 10:05 PM

I cant seem to get crock to talk anymore about brekek than "I seen him kill 10 men with his bare hands" ..also was wondering where ole' brekek can be found.

April Ryan 12-14-2001 02:42 AM

u dun have to talk to him abt brekek u need to kill brekek and bring back the leg to him... brekek can be found in the swamp.. south of the entrance to the mine... u can on ur x-ray.. it is the only red dot on the map...

it is a bug right?

Larlador 12-14-2001 04:03 AM

Lol place 1 portal at his spawn point and the other portal at Crocks then, hehe it will safe you long walks and random attacks ;)

good idea

MaskedFrog 12-14-2001 09:43 AM

But if you use the portals, it denies you the extra experience of killing the weenie monsters in the swamps. Personally I just killed Brekek and I am going to exploit this to gain a few levels in preperation for the rest of the game. I already have a portal set in Crock's shack so I will run over and Kill Brekek then portal back. Repeat as necessary. My first battle with Brekek I was worried because my Samurai with Bloodlust was the one taken. He has a good portion of my kills. My Mook Ranger saved the day though. Round 3 of the battle she hits him right between the eyes with an arrow and sends him to his grave. I just love Rangers.

Dajjer 12-14-2001 10:19 AM

I don't think this is a bug but an easter egg.

Even in Wiz 1 there were a few gaming tricks (the infamous good ninja trick) they included in their game to pump up a party?

Come to think about it, this Wizardry has no alignments. Is anyone bothered by that? Don't answer, I'm going to start a thread.

Mage of Mystra 12-14-2001 11:16 AM

Swamp here i am.

Scronan 12-14-2001 11:25 AM

Hi April,

Hot dog, what a great tip you found!! Kudos!

Awesome, my party is about level 18 so it takes a while to gain a level, but even so, this is the fastest way to get experience I've seen so far. Especially using two portals, you can kill Brekek, get his leg and get the exp in about a minute or two. Would also be great to create a new character and let them level up quickly. Not to mention you can get some combat skills while fighting that fat frog.

A funny side note, cast your return portal to Brekek's pond while you are in speaking distance of Crock, and then click to talk to him while you are teleporting away.

Its kind of funny...heh heh.

This must go in the best hints thread!!

Best

Hmmm.. The biggest bug I've found in the game has to be GREGOR!

Spooks 12-14-2001 03:50 PM

Wonderful.... way to make us vengeful freaks feel bad about popping Croc upside the head for kidnapping my bishop.

That goo stain behind the counter won't talk to me anymore :(

MornD 12-14-2001 03:57 PM

Beware of over-utilising this bug :D The random monster generator depends on level of party. If you exploit this bug, you will get lots of exp w/o a lot of skill increase.

gd2 12-14-2001 08:38 PM

This sounds like a great goody bug all in all, no? MornD, if not asking too much could you elaborate on the exp vs skill factor you mentioned? Had no idea this took place. Would that rule then also apply to pretty much any critter thats at a weaker lev than the party?

PS Murphy's Ghost was also in Wiz5, and was worth lots of exp there as well. Too bad there's no tribute to him in W8...

What he was talking about is when you fight monsters you generally get "some" skill points. But, by getting a few hundred thousand points by killing Brekek a few times you won't be getting the skill points you might have accumualted in those few hundred thousand points fighting a ton load of monsters. Four battels with Brekek could equal about 30 to 40 battle with other monsters. I would imagine the typical player would gain a lot of skill points in that many encounters.

Where I think it will come in handy is when my party is near leaveling I could fight Brekek once to get them over the hump.

MornD 12-15-2001 12:11 AM

Sorry for my late reply...went to sleep after posting the message.

I have been lurking in the boards for a long time and in the very beginning, one of the developers mentioned that skills are a lot more important than attributes and level, so like what Dajjer had explained, high levels with low combat skill points will get you no where.

Vaprakgruumsh 12-15-2001 10:16 AM

Well, I have a level 15 party (well Rogue, Mage and Priest are 16) and on my way back to Arnika anyway (for another quest) - so I ended up stopping by here (on my way anyway) - set a portal at crock's, one at Breke's - and just went back and forth for a few times and really got a laugh out of it. Wow I can't believe someone remembers that. I remember having a younger friend of mine kill that ghost over and over all night long for me in Wiz 1. Gee that was about what 15 years ago? I know I played it on the Mac back when it was first released. I think I was 10-11 years old. Oh the memories.

I took the idol, my party member disappeared, went back to Croc's (had a portal set there), he gave me the quest to kill Brekek, ran over to the pond, set a portal there, killed Brekek, ported back to Croc's.... Taking a break from that run-on sentence .... He asked for the frog leg, I gave it to him, got the part memeber back, and the experience points, but when I went to repeat the process, I ported back to the pond and Brekek isn't there to be killed????? Am I missing something....???? Please help this would be nice to advance a couple of levels to around 19-20

Thanks

Airun

This is a bug, and was fixed in a patch. So, if you have patched the game (not sure which patch), you can no longer exploit this bug for easy xp.

To paraphrase the Soup Nazi: "No experience for you!"
