Hail Fellow Wizardy Players,
Just this afternoon i was playing and accidently pulled my first wizardy8 train,i was in the wilderness trying to get to arnika when i walked up on a group of men and decided to back up right smack into another..cool i think il just go left and right smack into another...found a crevice in a mountain and took my stand there. What i faced was the following: 2 higardi cutpurses 3 " roustabouts 3 " highwaymen 7 " highwaymen 3 " highwaymen 6 " highwaymen totalling 24 monsters on 6 lowlevels but hey i lived, got 16,000 some xps. and i got to say my bard really shined with those pipes of piercing.Just this this might lead to an interesting topic. Oh by the way does anyone know how to take a screenshot in the game i looked in the options menu and the manual but couldnt find nothing on the subject. qwert |
Ack, Everquest d00d lingo is entering the RPG vernacular. :(
|
Nice fight! Those are the ones that last, and last, and...
To take a screenshot just hit your keyboard's Print Screen key. The shot will be saved to your Wizardry 8 main folder. The Screenshots are labeled Wiz800000.JPG, Wiz800001.JPG, etc. You can also launch a graphics editor program (before or after taking the screenshot) and simply paste the in-memory shot directly. |
Thanks for the reply xignal i wanted a screen shot of that fight oh well, yeah i played some everquest didnt care to much for it but picked up some of the lingo.

LOL! so to me, they count. but officially they might not. |
Mine was in Bayjin, right when I came out of the water.
There's a Standard (locked in) fight that's pretty brutal with: 1 Rynjin Battlelord (or something like that) 2 Rynjin Priests (something like that- not as tough as the Battlelord) 6 Rynjin Scavengers (Small guys... they would've been easy (only 150 hp), but they kept Psi-blasting/Ego whipping me) During that fight, 5 Stone Crabs decided that they weren't doing anything, and came over and joined in. The last Stone Crab ran away a bit, so I chased him, and in chasing him, I stirred up 4 Water Fairies (who were, luckily, pretty easy). So after those 3 groups, I say, hey, that hut looks like a nice place to rest, walk over, open the door, and OOPS, SOMEBODY'S HOME!!! It was just a Rynjin Something or other and his 2 brothers, and I was already at melee range, so I was able to kill them without losing anyone. But if I had been a couple of more steps away, I would've been meat! Luckily, 1 4M 1337 VV4RR10R 5uPr3m3!!!! |
In the Rattkin Tree :
4 Rattkin Snipers 4 Rattkin Rogues 6 Rattkin Goons 9 Wasps 5 Sprites and I WON! I backed into the doorway by breeders around the corner so the snipers and sprites couldnt nail me, and then took like 2 at a time coming in the door while fireball/iceball 'ing in the doorway to hit the creatures behind. Took a LONG time c. 120,000 EXP or ( where I died miserably ) 1 Sorceress Queen 1 Death Lord 1 Death Lord 3 Cultists 3 Cultists 1 Minor Earth Elemental 1 Minor Earth Elemental 1 Earth Elemental 1 Earth Elemental 1 Fire Elemental 1 Fire Elemental not really a train, but a BIG one |
My biggest train so far (and the term is new to me..at least for rpg's ;) , but it suits).
I only really just started the game. In lower monastary, after triggering trap door and being unceremoniusly dumped down a level, all party members level 3-4. 1st, 10 seekers in front, 3 noxious slimes to the rear. Just as I put them down and start looking for a place to rest, 12 wolf spiders. Get through them, but by now I'm out of magic, out of potions and a couple of peeps hurting bad on hp's. All I'm thinking is safety and rest, try to make it to the cell, 4 more slimes. I think, ok, I can handle this, my Ranger tells me they're Adamantine slimes..100+ hp's each...and damn hard to hit. Yikes! By the time it was over, 2 party members dead(bless the goddess for resurrection powder!), 2 unconsious, and 12 hp's between the other two. I actually muttered to my screen for a minute "I'm safe now, I'm safe now" BUT, I DIDN'T HAVE TO RELOAD! |
I was actually thinking of starting the same topic because of the same reason. I actually wrote everything down too
3 Crimson Poppies 9 Forest Mites 9 Juggernauts 1 Rank Weed 4 Poison Seekers 2 Twilight Bats 6 Shreiker Bats For a total of 46 992 xp! Keep in mind that I am running a 4 character party consisting of a fighter, cleric, rogue, and a mage all about 9th level. I am also happy to report that not one of my characters died....mostly because I was able to get myself into a crevice where only 2 could face me at a time. And this wasn't even my toughest fight....it was actually when I faced 5 Wood Fairies all level 15. They always get first strike and cast spells like crazy. I think I had to reload about 5 times because I kept getting my butt royally kicked. Oh, and I did have another that might have been a little tougher..... 6 Higardy with 100 hps and 3 sorceress'. I could barely see them let alone cast any usefull spells against them because of their position. And of course all 3 had to cast summon elemental which didn't make me a happy man. I don't think I will ever head back to the monestary again! |

DONT POINT THAT THING AT ME! Just got into this... new area so not sure on names but... 1 Rynjin Leader 3 Rynjin Thralls 3 Rynjin Empaths - then joining in 6 Rynjin Scouts - then 4 Flying Snakes 9 Something Crabs ... JEEZ! I got lucky and KO'ed the Leader early on, then backed into a hut, called up a Greater Fire Elemental ( first time I saw Greater ), and spammed area damage while my bard played the Heal All Horn |
Well, I pulled a tough one. Not as big as some of them, but....
My party = level 11-ish. My first time down in the water caverns... Vi just left, but I had the robot. Came around a corner and found 6 Inky Squids 6 Inky squids 4 Inky squids 2 inky squids Now, I'd never fought anything down here before, so I figured "what the heck. They aren't that tough." Was I wrong! After the first round, everyone was blind except for my Valkyrie. (I love the robot.. Viewscreen.. off!) Plus thy can hit like 4 times per shot. Add that to the fact that I couldn't use some of my best defensive spells down there, well, I was helpless under a constant barrage of tentacles and ink. I survived, though... by reloading the game! :D |
Wow, I've never survived any trains like those! My problem is I've never found a good place to back into... I must be missing them! Any suggestions?

~~catzenpewters~~
i have only one hint for you. no matter where you are and what you're doing, hug a wall*. you find cool stuff that way, too! *wall - anything that is taller than you and is at least one step long. there's the kind that protect your back, and then the kind that also protect at least one side. but 3-sided protection is the best! :D it can be the side of a building, the base of a hill, several trees growing really close together, a rockpile, etc. the best thing is hills and mountains. not until you are right there up close, do you find great crevices that become like narrow tunnels that protect you on 3 sides!! doing this makes all the difference! V***V |
Catze"something",
I dont know if theres really any advise on pulling a train i just think it happens when i pulled mine i was actually trying to get away and ran into them.As for what Vesselle said it does pay to hug a wall or mountain side always protect your back side and watch your radar while in combat. qwert |
Ok this might not be much compared to some..but it had to have the coolest ending
I had: 8 Savant Guards 8 Savant Troopers 8 Savant guards 6 Higardi Highwaymen 6 Higardi Highwaymen I was holed up in the space port in a corner of the first hanger, I pelted them savant goons with low level fire and ice balls from my mage and bishop, but ended up not killing any....untill my Ranger made a critical kill on one of the middle troopers...he self destructed and his explosion took out the guy next to him...the next thing I know the room was full of exploding androids in a chain reaction and all I had to do is sit back and watch.....well untill the highwaymen moved up....but that wasnt so tough Sure was a nice way to thin out the field. :D |
mine was near the endgame,
1 rapax prince 6 rapax templar 6 rapax archers 6 rapax 6 temlar knights 1 al-gandalf (has al followed by one of your party members names) i was glad for a couple of death bombs |
um, I fought almost all of rapax castle main level at once I think it was.. heh.
something like 39 assorted samurai, veterans, warmages, beserkers, and concubines. each with around 300-400 life aggghhhh The whole place got dragged in because Ferro started fighting them, and then ran off, so I ran after him and everyone joined in..it was a massive brawl, unfortunately he got killed despite my healing so I loaded :/ my second biggest was in Bayjin, I hate those rock crabs aye, but I wont that time |
I hate adamantium slimes, how did you get them in the monastary (i fought a few one at a time in the sea caves, they had 400+ life and 100 resistnace to everything + they can drain and take little to no damage) i ended up insta killing them but still. when my lv 5 power goles do a total of 10 damage on 2x because he was paralyzed youve got to wonder...
i cant really beat those right now, but im sure with a quick visit to MT Gigas i could send you all screaming in fear(especialy when i clean all the umpani up mu ha ha ha hga ha ha) this was with my lv 10 party(or whatever is needed to get summoned elementals) that had just killed kunar and took his card (tantris was present so i couldnt do the umpani quest and like the trang tele better. So, i take the card and explore around ound and eventualy break into yamirs place. end up killing him and all his goonies at once. one five characrts. BUT they were all lv 20 and above i believe and... all had blunderbusses(three of my chars got instakilled) i enend up with all of my chars alive somehow, and 300K exp from the fight. Let's see, largest I've lived though? That would have to be a rather easy fight consisting of:
9 Juggernauts 7 Juggernauts 2 Iron Weeds 4 Crimson Poppies 1 Rank Weed My characters, around level 8-ish. Not a difficult fight. Now the largest train that signaled my impending doom? A rather humours fight that was hopeless, but I stuck it out anyway. It consisted of: 4 Crimson Poppies 1 Rank Weed 7 Umpani Privates 1 Umpani Lieutenant 7 Umpani Privates 1 Umpani Lieutenant 3 Swallowers 1 Pvt. Sparkle 1 Pax (I think that's his name, the guy at the entrance to the Umpani Base Camp) 3 Umpani Privates This nice little encounter was a result of a Bishop casting Paralyze at a Swallower whilst blinded. Went something like this: "Tirel is Blind Tirel chooses a random target. Tirel casts Paralyze(5) on Umpani Private!" Sparkle: "You guys are mean!" Then, Sparkle proceded to leave my party, and all the Umpani's patroling outside the Base Camp turn red...and...well...I lost. Though I must say, I am proud to have whittled it down to 2 Swallowers, 4 Umpani Privates, and 2 Umpani Lieutenants. Probably could have won if it weren't for the Umpani Lieutenants and their damned guns... -TerebiKun [ 01-26-2002: Message edited by: TerebiKun ] [ 01-26-2002: Message edited by: TerebiKun ]</p> |
My biggest yet was in the swamp where I saw two enemies on the screen and didn't see the second group until it was too late. Luckily I was backed up against a fallen tree.
First group: 2 Emerald slimes Second group: (this group was 125k exp.) 2 Savant Slashers 3 Savant Orbs 3 Savant Orbs 3 Savant Berserkers 3 Ozites (sp) Third group: 9 swarming wasps Forth group: 6 Tiger Mosquitos 6 Tse Tse Flies 9 Swarming Wasps Finally: 4 Dreadmares (three of them ran away) I was totally drained and somewhat woozy but no one died! I don't want to go through that again anytime soon but it was kind of exciting. It's amazing how wrapped up we get in the game and how afraid of death. It sure doesn't seem like a game at the time. |
This is my biggest so far:
1 queen ant 3 soldier ants 1 savant orb 3 savant berserkers 3 savant drones 3 higardi highwaymen 4 higardy highwaymen This may not seem much to a 6-8 chars party, but I ran into them with a solo fairy ninja. I could just kiss my CoC after that fight |
WTF
I once participated in pulling a train. but this isnt the place to talk about it people |
I'm amazed all of you can still recall the composition of your "trains". My most memorable one was right inside the gates of rapax castle where I was mobbed by approx. 30+ rapax of various kinds. Not sure it was my biggest, but it sure as hell was one of my toughest fights.
