Rumormill on the USENET (comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg) says that Wizardry 8 may be released as soon as April 16, 2001 (Monday after Easter). Sir-Tech may have found an overseas publisher (in Taiwan) to do it. If so, it'll probably make it stateside within that week.

It is just a rumor, though..other rumors have it coming out in June 2001. There seems to be some reputable sources behind the April date, though.

Post information here about what you find on the Web or USENET for the release date of Wiz 8!

I just got the press copy of Wizardry 8, and let me tell ya-- I was blown away! The interface is what W&W should have been (drop away frame of characters/stats). But guys, this is a VERY good looking game so far, and fighting is handled nearly the same way as Wiz 7 was. Lock picking too (also like W&W).

I'll have a FULL preview in a day or two with screenshots and stuff, check the main Ironworks page for the latest!!

Oh yeah!!! Looks like I'm going to be stuck behind my computer for the rest of the year. Maybe I can get my roommate to throw me scraps of food every once and awhile. LOL

Sazerac 03-14-2001 05:01 PM

ROFL! Me too, Serath!

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but I wish Wiz 8 would be multiplayer...you and Scronan and Wyvern and Moni and the rest of you, I'd trust to play in a Multiplayer scenario and not worry about getting p-killed. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Scronan 03-14-2001 05:45 PM

I'll second that, I'm going to have to allow myself a set amount of time to play Wiz 8 otherwise I'll never stop playing the damn thing!

I still think it stinks the public didnt get a beta...I always liked to play demos of games, not just watch a video about it. http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif

Multiplayer would be fun Saz! I hope you're right about it coming out in April, that would be a blast!

Scronan

Moni 03-14-2001 09:43 PM

I'll third that! LOL!

Scrambling to finish all the spring cleaning around here so that I can have time to play without feeling guilty for leaving something undone!

If history repeats itself with me and the way I play Wizardry games, I should just pack a cooler full of life support (Dr Peppers and goldfish crackers) and sit it next to my system. Hmmm, I may want to add an automatic cat feeder to the list.

I would like multiplayer as well Saz. I have a feeling that dungeon crawling with y'all would be quite interesting. There would be all kinds of shenanegans to get into, fun to be had. Let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we?

Serath

Sazerac 03-15-2001 05:09 PM

Hehehe, the way we all are, we'd all be laughing so hard, it'd be hard to play! http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif I do hope it supports multiplayer.

Serath 03-16-2001 01:17 PM

Unfortunatly Sir-Tech has said that Wizardry 8 will not be multiplayer. They say that there may be a multiplayer Wizardry, but it won't be 8. Definately a hint that this will not be the last Wizardry release.

Any info from Ziroc concerning the Wiz 8 pre-release copy he will be reviewing? I wonder if he'll post any early thoughts here before the review is posted.

Concerning PK's. I only ever kill monsters or blatantly hostile people. Therefore most players can rest assured that I only kill in revenge and rarely make unprovoked attacks.Oh well, this looks like it should be fun and aught to keep me busy until Neverwinter Nights comes out http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/No...iles/smile.gif .

Serath, Wiz 8 will not be the last Wizardry indeed, because in an interview with Ian Curie he said:

IC: Well, we're very ambitious, and we're trying to plan things smartly. Wizardry 9 is already in the works. We've mapped out a lot of the design already, and we're already starting initial plans for some drastic technological and gameplay changes for Wizardry 10. Our goal is to start production on Wiz 9 as soon as the design is wrapped up and simultaneously start R&D on Wizardry 10.
(read the whole interview here: http://www.zdnet.com/gamespot/storie...87310,00.html)

Carg: That's great news! Whoohoo! http://www.wizardrealm.com/images/pbounce.gif

I had assumed that with the demise of Sir-Tech, that Wizardry 8 would be the final chapter. Apparently there are many people out there still wanting to work with the Wizardry saga, and that's great.

I still say 400 lashes with a not-so-wet noodle for Sir-Tech's neglecting it's "baby". IMO, Sir-Tech got what it deserved for the way it dropped the Wizardry series to concentrate on the cr*p it foisted off on us during the mid 90's.

* Balgin sharpens his axe and awaits others to join him on the quest (after all, he'll be able to fight a lot more effectively when he doesn't have to bother telling a bunch of other people what to do)* http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/cgi-...iles/smile.gif
