Has anyone seen or heard of it? From what I gather, it's been in select theatres for a few days, but it's slated for a nationwide release in a few weeks. To be honest, there isn't much I know about the movie, just what little I saw from the trailer. It looks to be interesting though.

Here's the official site, its IMDb page, and its wiki page.

edit: Ah well, that's the link anyways. I don't know why the URL tag isn't working.

From what I've heard from the people who've seen it, it's an excellent one, and everyone I've talked with about it who hasn't seen it seems excited to. Give us a quick review or some such when you see it.

As for your URL link, I think maybe you need to remove the space between the = and the actual URL?

Looks pretty cool. It has an "R" rated though. Is it scary?

Target 01-04-2007 09:23 AM

I want to see it, but there is no where near me showing it :(
If someone has seen it can they post a review?

Tried that. I think I've had trouble linking to particular wiki pages on these forums before, so it may just be that.

I don't think so. I've heard there are a few graphic moments that may have landed it that rating.

Like I've said, there should be a wider release in a few weeks. Hopefully, that doesn't mean select theatres.

There was some violent/disturbing imagery which probably resulted in the R rating. Interesting movie although the trailer misleadingly portrays the movie as overly fantastic when in reality the content of the trailer is nearly the sum of the fantasy sequences involved.

Its listed now as Wide Release, but I still cannot find it anywhere near me. (insert vulgar explicitive). It is #7 on the charts of recent top box office sellers, and both critics and the average viewer give it an "A" and "Must Go" rating. Yet I cannot find it anywhere!!??!! (More vulgarity shown here)

Target 01-26-2007 06:53 AM

Has anyone seen it yet?

Wide, in this sense, must mean outside NY and CA. There are only two places near where I live that are showing it, with the closest being a 30 to 45 minute drive from where my dad lives. I'm not sure what all plays into that, but it seems pretty typical with the release of a foreign film.

You know...during the movie awards that were on a couple weeks ago, they said that if one of these movies is not playing at your local theater, go ask them why...and this movie was one of the ones on the list of movies that were having trouble getting brought to us. I am going to call them tomorrow...no...I am going up there on my way past it as I go shopping tomorrow, and will ask the manager face to face so I can learn what the deal is, and I'll return and report.

I definitely want to see this.

Larry_OHF 01-29-2007 09:59 AM

Its finally playing at my theater! I will go, but not tonight...tonight is Heroes night. I'll go before the end of the week.

I went on friday night and thought it was really good. The aesthics were fantastic when she was fantasy world. The one thing I thought was a little silly was the title, because there is no Pan in the movie. I guess just a marketing choice

It probably has an R rating because of graphic violence. There are quite a few scenes like that. Like a man's nose being smashed into his face with a pistol. I had to close my eyes for a couple of those scenes...

Here's what I got from IMDB about the title:

** Why is the English title of this movie not the same as the Spanish?

El Laberinto del Fauno literally translated means The Labyrinth of the Faun. Since in English faun (a satyr) and fawn (a baby deer) are both pronounced the same, it was believed that there would be some confusion so the English title is Pan's Labyrinth even though the faun is not the god Pan. **

I saw the film a few days ago. The fantasy creatures and places were really well made, and the story was really good. It's not a happy story though. You shouldn't expect a fairytale, because it's not. It's just a really tragic story with some fantasy elements. But it was really good! [img]smile.gif[/img]

Thoran 01-30-2007 10:07 AM

I think since Pan was a faun they felt the title change would fly... and since most Americans don't know what a (mythical) faun is, they probably thought it'd be confusing.

My opinion was the it was a great movie hamstrung by a obsessively violent director. Del Torro did his usual hachett job (or was it a broken bottle). I understand the need to convey the evil character of the antagonist... but the level of violence IMO detracted from what was otherwise a wonderful film. Plot was solid, setting and atmosphere was WONDERFUL, and the acting was excellent. It's a dark story and I thought that worked very well, but the EXTREME graphic violence wasn't necessary and added nothing. A truly talented director would have conveyed the character of the antagonist with more subtlety and skill... instead of resorting to gallons of blood and gore.
