Many years ago I picked up a second hand copy of the Crystal Shard and became hooked on Salvatore's books. The trouble with this addiction is that the Drizzt books are rather hard to get hold of outside of specialist book shops here in the UK, and I live out in the middle of nowhere miles from any bookshops let alone specialist ones. This led me to fueling my addiction by buying his books on the glorious interweb(Ebay how I've missed you).

Now to cut a long story short, I have been without the internet for the past few years, and I was wondering what books I'm currently missing from my collection I have:

I also have the Cleric Quintet (if anymore books revolving around Cadderly have been released).

The reason I am asking is because I know he has released new Drizzt books, just before I lost my internet connection I remember reading (on this site I believe) somthing about him starting a new series, but I cant remember for the life of me the name of that series, making it hard to find on Ebay ; ;

Also during my searches for the titles of these books I came across another series I've not heard of, which got me quite excited - The Sellswords books, a series following Entreri and Jarlaxle, from what I can gather these books are a spin off from the Servant of the Shard in the Paths of Darkness series, or at least I would assume so.

Well if any Salvatore fans on here could give me titles to any books I've missed these last few years I wouldbe greatful.

If you like, you can let me know what you don't have. There are a number of used book stores here (even though our city is fairly small). A used paper back runs around $3-5cdn and shipping shouldn't be that much.

I actually have a signed hard cover of his. He didn't sign it for me, but I found it at the used book store for $18, so I figured, what the heck. Strange that someone would sell it to a used book store.. probably only got $4-5 for it.

I still have to read these myself. I'll check the library first.

Just keep in mind that not all of his work is on a par with the Dark Elf and Icewind Dale series.

In fact apart from those series I personally have not read anything from him that I'd bother reading a second time.

Variol... if you've read them all can you seperate the wheat from the chaff for us?

I cant speak for the books I've not read yet (I've just started The Thousand Orcs, and so far I'm not dissapointed), but I love everything I have read that Salvatore has written, the Legacy of the Drow and Paths of Darkness series included.

I dont understand why so many people dislike his more recent work, I hear some people complaining that his plots and storylines are unoriginal, stereotypical fantasy storylines that we have read over and over again, but to me I've never considered plot and storyline all that important to a good book. I subscribe to the school of writing that believes characters are more important than the plot, the plot is just a secondary thing to move the characters along as they evolve, and Salvatore is without a doubt one of the best Character writers I've ever seen.

I feel the same. I like all his stuff except.. was it Servant of the Shard; with Entreri and Jarlaxle. Too much politics for my liking. I never finished it. I will pick it up again though, I hear the ending is good, or was that Entreri and Jarlaxle? And I sure have to look at Promise of the Witch-King & The Road of the Patriarch.

I also liked the Sword of Bedwyr series!

At the moment, I've ordered The Lone Drow and The Two Swords off of Amazon. They should come in a few days. Can't wait!

I have read everything he has written even the star wars book. His character development is great. The 1000 orcs series is some of his best work yet. My favorite books were the Cleric Quintet and the Demon Wars Saga and its follow up. I liked the first 2 books of the Crimson shadow. Salvator is all I read at this point but I can't get into the Entreri and Jarlaxel stories thier characters are not appealing to me. The reason I like Drizzt is his strong reflection of life. The Star wars book was really good until the last chapter and I thought he threw in the towel at that point.

Try the Moonshea trillogy if you like some of Salvators books. It's by Douglas Niles and is a pretty good read.

Douglas Niles also seems to be a prominant Forgotten realms and, if I'm not mistaken, Dragonlance author.

I read Servant starting from chapter 15 last week. It's good from there. I started Witch King in the middle of the week. It looks pretty good. I just don't like too many characters at once. It gets a bit confusing; specially when they have tricky names. I must say the humor is definatly a hugh point in this one.

<font color=skyblue>How do you all feel about the new re-releases that are in a chronological order? In other words, coming in January, the paperback of Crystal Shard will be out, and it is labeled as Book 4 of the Legend of Drizzt collection. I have the original, though time is showing with its yellowed pages, but I am proud of it. I collect all FR books, and these are among my most treasured for their value on different levels, personal and collectable.

So, how do you all feel about the new releases that have great cover art, but the order is all changed for chronolgy's sake...would you buy the re-releases and put them up there with the originals, or forget the newer publishings and stay proud of what I have?</font>

I don't go in for that myself. If I see one on for a good price (new or used) I buy it. I can get all this stuff at the library, why waste my money?

Some of the side books for Forgotten Realms (lets not abbreviate, for those who don't know) are also very good.

The Jewel of Turmish. The Druidhome Trilogy. I think Realms of Magic is another one. It tells how Guenwyvar was created and many other short stories.

I bought Starless Night a few years back. Used hard cover for $18cdn, but it's signed! Who would get rid of such a thing!?

The Harper series is also fun to read.
