Kevin Smith is a comedy legend (sure I have the occasional weakness for dick and fart jokes), so which is your fave movies, and which is your least fave (because they all rock)? Hey Z, a poll option for this section wouldnt hurt ;)
Your choices are (for the un-obsessed); Clerks Mallrats Chasing Amy Dogma Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Fave 2: Clerks Chasing Amy Worst: J&SB Strike Back |
I reckon Jersey Girl never happened in your book? ;)
Also, apparently he's working on a sequel for Clerks. |
I choose to pretend Jersey Girl never happened
|
I thought Jersey Girl was okay. He worked on Good Will Hunting too.
My favorite Kevin Smith movie (this answer is such a cop-out) depends on my mood. I think Dogma is a great movie, but for goofy laughs, nothing beats Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Of course, these movies wouldn't be half as good unless you've seen the previous films. I guess Mall Rats gets the "worst" rating in my book, but I like seeing the cast of My Name is Earl on the big screen! ;) |
Mallrats was always my favorite, followed by Chasing Amy.
J&SBSB was the worst. |
I would say Clerks is my favorite, having worked retail and jockeyed a register, I can understand alot of the frustration of the main characters.
Chasing Amy is my least favorite, it's great, up until the last 15 minutes (if you shut it off then, you'll probably be much more satisfied with the movie). umm, it's not really the cast of My Name is Earl, Jason Lee is the only character in Mallrats and the show (although I've been impressed with Jason Lee ever since I first saw him onscreen, definitely one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood) {edit, Ethan Suplee (Willam from Mallrats) is also in My Name is Earl} Also, The clerks sequel is going to be called, The Passion of the Clerks, sounds like it's going to be great. I know it's really not the whole cast, but it's nice to see Willam THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY! OVER THERE, THAT'S JUST A GUY IN A SUIT! get another spot, as I don't think he's done anything since.
Also, according to ViewAskew.com, they might change the name of Clerks II. I hope they do, I'm not a fan of The Passion of the Clerks. |
Nice sig krunchy, salsa-shark we're gonna need a bigger boat :D

Anyways, all of you that said Jay and Silent Bob:Strike back is the worst Kevin smith movie.....Well, I hope you die a slow, slow, slow and horribly painfull death ;) well maybe not, but you certainly need to fix your sense of humor |
Clerks is definitely my favourite, I was introduced to it during uni by some fellow nerdy mates at a small cinema group. Back then I had a long hair, a long coat and a beard and my mates called me Bob. ;) That was kind of ironic since I knew next to nothing about Kevin Smith going into the film. The humour was a breath of fresh air at the time - sometimes witty, sometimes puerile but always entertaining with references galore.
One of my buddies even had plans to make his own 'homage' to Clerks a few years ago...but yeah, those were the days. Berserker! :D (power chord fill) Worst? Well, I haven't seen Jersey Girl, but I tend to agree that Jay and Silent Bob Strike back wasn't quite up to scratch - it contains far less intellectualising in geekery, too many jokes about bodily functions and more slapstickery, so I was a bit disappointed. Second favourite would probably be Chasing Amy. Made me rethink many common assumptions at the time. |
I liked Clerks and Mallrats and Chasing Amy. I think I haven't seen anything but repeats from him since then.
|
interesting... I can see Dogma as a continuation of Chasing Amy, swapping relationships with people with relationships with God... never quite looked at it like that...
J and Silent Bob Strike Back... yeah, it's Jay and silent bob being J and Silent Bob Jersey Girl... wasn't quite what it was marketted as, and probably would have been better if marketted a bit more closely to what it was. He also said early on it wasn't done for movie critics and they'd probably hate it, meh, I liked it, and didn't see much of his other work in it (other than some of the casting) |

Vulgar isn't really a kevin smith movie, IIRC a friend of his directed it and he produced on it, although it does star Brian O'Halloran aka Dante Hicks/Gil Hicks/anchor attacked by angels in Dogma/etc.
I've no desire to see Vulgar, but I do want to see the Defending Dogma featurette on the DVD. |
