I think there was a planned quest in BG that was canceled due to time constraints but wasnt completely removed.
In the Baldurs Gate novel Khalid is attacked by slime people and becomes some sort of slime skeleton and Abdul has to put him down. When you talk to random townsfolk in BG one of the rumors they mention is that they've heard of people dissolving into slime before their eyes. I theorize there was sopposed to be a random encounter/quest found on one of the overland maps with slime creatures that infected party members turning them into slimes. This quest was planned during the beginning of BG's programing and was included in part in the novel. While it was dropped from the game it was left in the novel and they forgot to remove that random townsfolk rumor tie in. Thoughts? |
Interesting!
I would never have known that, because I have never read the book. Don't beleive I've ever seen that rumour either, but it would've been cool! [ 06-11-2005, 06:30 PM: Message edited by: Lavindathar ] |
actually in talking to some townspeople, in my journal it says something about people turning into slime as well...
|
You know, I've always wondered about that rumor... I've skimmed the books in bookstores. Didn't read them because I couldn't stand Abdel. But thank you for sharing that; it would have plagued me for ages otherwise.

I must say, one of the most interesting first posts ever!

There are slime people in the sewer below Baldurs Gate. They are called Sewerfolk and are led by a slime called Schlumpscha the Sewer King or something down those lines. It is actually an interesting encounter that offers quite some clues and doesn't have to be resolved in combat. I am not certain what will happen if you encounter them with Khalid in the party. I have never used him for long.

I have never heard of these sewer people mad dog and I thought I explored every inch of those sewers. Can you elaborate on this encounter?
|
::grimaces at the thought of exploring sewers looking for slime-folk:: Well, there's something I get to look forward to!!

I've run into the sewer slimes every time through. However, I always thought that the slime rumours referred to the bar in the southwest part of the city where the bartender gets turned into a slime.

And the rumor is heard in Beregost and not in BGCity |
Summoned by who? The bartender always turns into this green guy before he dies.
|
Yeah, I think he's being engulfed or something.
The slimes were summoned by an indignant mage, I believe. |
There was no mage in there when I entered...
|
Wasn't the story that some sort of mage was slighted and called up the slimes? I think a townsperson tells you about that... Or perhaps a rumor.
|
It might just be a certain mage experimenting on them and sends them after you if you want a copy of his work...

Ramazith, the one with the big tower apparently summoned a bunch of slimes because he was angered at the bar for some trivial reason. As far as I know, the slimes kill most if not all of the people in the bar, the bartender dies instantly. As for the sewer meeting, you meet a slime and some random creatures, like an ogrillon, that follow him. He is found in a vertical tunnel on the far right side of one of the sewer maps. Upon seeing him he will start to dicusses something along of the lines of that he has been watching you, and finds you interesting. More often than not, you end up battling him, like a regular fight, but sometimes you agree to go your seperate ways. As far as the abandoned quest, that's news to me!

Yep, Ramazith gets mad and summons all of the creatures. I've tried every single clerical spell, from cure serious wounds to slow poison, but to no avail.
Being a cleric of Paladine, I try to do my best |
