X-Men 3 To Shoot In 2005

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner told SCI FI Wire that a third movie in the Marvel Comics franchise is slated to begin filming in Vancouver, B.C., in June 2005, with a release date of May 2, 2006. "I just had a conversation with [director] Bryan [Singer] today," Shuler Donner said in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Los Angeles on May 5. "We just started to talk about what the possibilities are. We're pretty sure Wolverine's going to come back."

Shuler Donner added that she's going to push to add the new mutants Gambit and Beast this time around. "I'm dying to put Beast in," Shuler Donner said. "I tried to get Beast in the first one and the second one, but it was always too expensive. So, yeah, I'm really dying to get Beast in, and I'd love to get Gambit in, because he's such a cool guy. And there's some really good casting ideas for Gambit." She declined to say who was up for the role.

As for Halle Berry—the Oscar-winning actress who has said she's reluctant to return unless her character, Storm, has a lot more to do—Shuler Donner said, "I certainly hope so, because I love working with her. ... We would only write a big huge role for her, so she's right in that respect, and we would make sure that that would happen."

And Shuler Donner confirmed that the third movie will deal, at least in part, with the Dark Phoenix storyline that was planted in the second X-Men movie, X2. "We will follow it through in some respect, absolutely, yes," she said. "And we love Famke [Janssen] anyway, so, yeah. Well, she's Dark Phoenix. She's Jean Grey." The producer added that Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, who wrote the second film, will pen the third installment.

It looks like in addition to this sequel, a fourth X-Men film will be shot. Though it's all rumor at this point, it looks like Bryan Singer wants to take care of two sequels at once, possibly to guarantee that Hugh Jackman stays with the franchise. (Ain't It Cool News)

TyranyuZ 06-15-2004 12:39 PM

Perhaps, though I looking much more to see the forth Harry Potter movie, if halle berry quits as storm then the movie will be quite boring. Hugh Jackman is a MUST, so they better drop the sequals if he isnt going to cast.

Actually I find her an overacting, overhyped prima dona, she threw a fit because she wasn't the star of X-men 2, PUH-LEASE, I'm not saying replace her, as that's too noticeable, but dropping her from the movie is acceptable, as in the comic storm had alot of issues to sort out (much like wolvie, colossus, and any of the other long term heroes of the book, throw her character out, bring in the Beast and all will be well in the world, heck I can't wait to see what happens when Gambit comes in and starts goin after Rogue).

Larry_OHF 06-15-2004 02:53 PM

The ONLY thing that I care about is seeing the Dark Phoenix storyline!!!

Nothing else can compare man!

Bozos of Bones 06-15-2004 04:40 PM

Beast! The Phoenix Team(legion/group I forgot)! Gambit! I just hope they add the Colossus, because they kinda advertised him in the 2nd movie, but they also shown Banshee in a girl form so..
And yes, Larry, I share your goal.

Cerek the Barbaric 06-15-2004 10:55 PM

The "Banshee in girl form" is Siryn - Banshee's daughter. They made her much younger in the movie than she was in the comics.

I have to admit that Halle Berry comes off sounding like a prima donna. They expanded her role for X-Men 2 and now it sounds like she wants to be the central character. Unfortunately (for her) Hugh Jackman already has that honor as Wolverine - and although Storm was very powerful and very popular - Logan is still the number one "fan favorite" character from the comics.

Hugh Jackman said in an interview after X-Men 2 that he didn't want to stay with this project too long and would eventually ask for Wolverine to be written out of the story. Anybody that has followed the X-Men over the years knows that there are PLENTY of other members to take Wolverine's place in future storylines.

The Dark Pheonix saga needs to be done and we still haven't seen any Sentinels yet. So there is plenty of ground left to cover.

I would also like to see Colossus in future movies - but I know most fans definitely want to see Gambit. He is a cool character - very similar to Logan in that he isn't a "goody two shoes" person and has a shady past. But - just like everybody's favorite little beserker - Gambit can be counted on to come through when the chips are down.

Speaking of Wolverine's "beserker" rage - that is something I would like to see more of (as would most fans). They gave him more fighting in X-Men 2, but he still didn't go "fully beserk" and where he just attacks anything and everything in sight. They need to have him attacked by a horde of creatures that nobody will care about seeing killed, and then just turn him loose.

Still, I think the X-Men and Spiderman movies are BY FAR the best "comic" movies ever done.

I think the girl with the sonic scream was actually meant to be Siryn, Theresa Rourke Cassidy. Almost right though as she is actually the daughter of the original Banshee, Sean Cassidy.

I'm sure I saw a thread on here somewhere which mentioned every single mutant who was featured or mentioned in the two X-men films and it makes for pretty good reading if you can find it.

Morgeruat 06-16-2004 08:16 AM

that thread was about x-men 2, and it also went through the list on the computer terminal that Mystique hacks into. very good list, (included Remy Lebeau - aka Gambit, and Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy aka the Beast was on a television show in the background.

Bahamut 06-16-2004 08:45 AM

Looks like good news... :D

I enjoyed X-Men 2... so there. and with the Jean Grey plot now hinted at the end... whoa :D

Jorath Calar 06-16-2004 10:22 AM

Wow, great news... I hope Halle Berry comes of her high horse and won't ruin anything.

I agree with who ever said X-men and Spiderman are the best comic movies. I hope they make a movie about the X-Men Secret wars storyline, were all the superheros and Villians are warped to some other world and have to fight.
Also I'd like to see my favourite Villian, Dr. Doom...

Mack_Attack 06-16-2004 12:40 PM

Well I can not wait for the Dark Phoenix Storey line as well.

There is a Fantastic Four movie planned, There was one made several years ago that was never released (it had about a $2000 budget and was made solely to keep the license to make it from being revoked) You can be sure he'll be in that movie.

Know what'd be cool? If Archangel appeared.

Morgeruat 06-16-2004 03:56 PM

they'd have to intro him as Angel first, although I think his name was on the list of mutants on the computer in that scene...

2006?! I'll be like...21!! Too far away!

Looking forward to it nevertheless :D

Sneeki Two 06-17-2004 11:31 PM

I'd love to see Juggernaut in one of these movies. That would give them the excuse to give Colossus a decent role. That guy was a handful for the whole team and would also give some history to Prof X.

They also dropped the ball on Sabretooth. They could have done some nice things with him and Wolverine. Their battles were classic.

Im also one of the rare folk that acutally liked Daredevil. There were definetly some cheesy scenes in it but over all I liked that one. Spiderman acually kinda bored me(it was good but too long for me).

Just my 2.

Link 06-18-2004 04:02 AM

That's because Sabertooth 'died' in the first movie; it's not cool to re-introduce the same villain in the second movie just because he has more history. And honestly: X-Men 2 was very good as well!

Thats what I was saying. In the first his role was so small, and he was portrayed as just some big dumb oaf. He is actually a lot like wolverine, but a lot more savage. It would a have been a nice sub-plot to the movie or movies.

Just my 2

Morgeruat 06-18-2004 11:23 AM

*nods* well considering his healing factor, he's in no way dead as far as I'm concerned. I am a bit concened about them throwing in enemies from Wolvies past without giving them any of the background or history with the characters (or making them mindless hack n slashers), like Lady Deathstrike, and Sabertooth. Otherwise I've loved the movies.

Would Wolverine survive a fall off the Statue of Liberty then?

Bozos of Bones 06-22-2004 06:17 PM

Yes, most definetly.

Actually, it was released straight to video, but they did release it. It sucked SO bad. You might be able to find it in a video store somewhere, probably right next to that god-awful Captain America movie they made right around the same time. Why you would actually want to find them is beyond me... :D

DBear 06-23-2004 01:15 AM

With Halle Berry off to do Catwoman, I'd put the chances of Storm being in X-Men 3 as slim and none...and slim just left town.

Wolverine has survived ninja's and falling skyscrapers landing on him, a bit of a fall off a building wouldn't hurt much.

hmm, I'd love to see him fighting Sabretooth after he got his own Adamantium... heh.

btw does anyone know how old Wolvie is, I know he Fought beside Captain America in WW2, and I think I saw an Old West comic with him as a main character (which would put him easily over 120 - he seemed to be the same age in both)

Nerull 06-23-2004 10:20 PM

No one really knows how old he is, least of all Wolverine. When they put the adamantium in him, they really messed with his head, to the point that he is not sure what in his past is real and what isn't. However, they do tend to indicate that he is over a century old.

Morgeruat 06-23-2004 11:36 PM

*nods* I remember reading in several places that his age has prettymuch always been an uncertainty, and he's always been nasty, even back in his first appearance (bonus points if you know it) and I also knew he has no idea how old he is (he looked the same age in X-Men 2099)

Yes, The lost memory is sign of serious adamantium poisoning.

not only that, but the way they did it. course my understanding of the guy (from Weapon X books, and Alpha Flight stories) is that he wasn't all that nice to begin with (ie he was alot more like Sabertooth near the time of his "gift"

Wolverine never appeared in X-Men 2099.

Halle Berry might be the one person who's not returning. Rumor has it that she wanted much more of a story for her character, Storm, which the studio refused to give her. According to the gossip, Christina Milian may be playing the character. (Latino Review)

This About.com interview with James Marsden reveals some X-3 news that can be summarized like this: 1) everyone "except for one person" wants to come back to the franchise, and Fox is trying to figure out how it's going to pay everybody 2) the film will likely follow the Dark Phoenix storyline from the comics, 3) Bryan Singer is trying to schedule this around the filming of Logan's Run, so X-3 could be pushed to Christmas 2006. Logan's Run? I liked that movie, and although it's in the way of X-Men 3 I think I'll go see that.

Keal 07-16-2004 09:51 PM

They have intoduced shadowcat, theyu have to continue with her, if nobody noticed, but they had quicksilver as 1 of proff. X's students, what the ****? They did the same thing with a human-like nightcrawler. Rogue and Gambit go out with each other so they screwed it up with iceman. They've got a lot of mutants to cover up yet, and a lot of villians to bring back (toad, I don't know if he died, they could bring him back fairly being that they didn't get him with lightning after he went in the water, sabertooth, and other enemies.) secret wars would be cool too. They also came out with a punisher movie that's old. However, the FF, Captain America, Punisher, and (I think there was an old) Hulk movies all were falures

Keal 07-16-2004 09:58 PM

oh, and as for the wolvie age thing, he's in X men 2099, and a small ? if he's over 1 century old, then how'd striker live so long?
(do they air the x men evolution cartoon's anymore, I got up real early to see a new episode every day for like 2 weeks but they haven't showed it since that one day 4 months ago. *sniff* I really liked that, even though I'm going to 7th grade after summer.

Dundee Slaytern 07-18-2004 08:59 AM

Just give Gambit a role in X-3 and I'll WATCH IT!

ARRGGGHHHH!

My fav X-Man not seen in action yet. :(

Keal 07-20-2004 09:58 PM

My bro'd say the same if he posted in this forum. I always liked shadowcat, wolvie, rogue, gambit, toad, and magnito the best. Spike is also one of my fav's, but I don't think he's ionn things besides evolution.

Huge sigh of despair here: Because he's agreed to do Superman V, it's unlikely that Bryan Singer will direct X3. (Variety)

Morgeruat 07-30-2004 02:23 PM

hmm, hopefully they'll put the project on hold in order to keep teh director, but knowing hollywood greed, it won't likely happen... :(

I guess it should be ok, as long as Joel Schumaker isn't brought on board for the movie (I don't need to see x-nipples or close ups of Wolvie's butt all the way through the movie).

Oh, off topic, but They've brought Joel on board to make Phantom of the Opera, possible preview of the film?

I believe marvel legend has him at about 120 years old. Born in like 1840 or so. That is paraphrased.

I know hes over 100 and less than 150.
