I have just finished reading a Game of Thrones and thought it was one of the best fantasy books that i have ever read. Could any one tell me how many books are supposed to be in the series? As I understand it, only the first three are out so far and George is working on the 4th.
Thanks in advance. |
Yeah... still working on the 4th... still... ARGH

There is a lot of George R.R. Martin fans around here.
Every once in a while I go take a look at his website. He released a preview chapter of the next book Feast for Crows by the way. |
How many books are there supposed to be in the series though? He does not appear to be a young man and I would hate for him to pass away before he is finished! (Based on the time it takes to churn out each book)
|
The exact number of books isn't know, I believe. You will find that there is a LOT contained in each book. However, one of the main plot points is just now kicking up.
See my sig for my sentiments on Feast for Crows. |
Ive never heard of Martin's book, are they in a certain realm or does he make his own world?
|
This isn't Dungeon and Dragons novels. Once you read Martin, D&D will bore you to death.
He's got his own world, it's based in a time zone similar to our middle age, it's very realistic and for lack of a better word, dark. He's not effraid to kill off main characters and piss off his readers, so you never know what to expect, but he know how to hook you in. The suspense is awesome. At one point I had to restrain myself from not throwing the book on the wall. His characters are all very realistic, it's not just your typical paladin trying to kill random necromancer #4. All sides have their reasons and goals. I can't decide wich character I love and which one I hate yet, but I do have some favorites. His name is George R.R. Martin, the series in question is A Song of Ice and Fire, if you want to look him up. |
Best SF/Fantasy author currently alive... but the waiting is KILLING me!
|
Heh, I can hardly wait to find out what happens to poor misunderstood Littlefinger :D
|
Almost done with Storm of Swords unfortunately :( . I heard there would be six books in all.
|
I might also add that this is no munchkin--D&D land where a 30th level Elminster hangs out...the magic is kept to a very low level, and makes the novels far more realistic.
Also, these are NOT nice people. Definite PG-13 ratings. |
PG-13? More like rated R for some of the intimate scenes. And some of the way he describes the blood and gore.
|
You do sometimes wonder if Feast of Crows will ever arrive. I've never known a book to take so long. Especially when you consider that the previous 3 (or 4, depending on if you count the two volumes of "A Storm Of Swords" seperately) were all published in a little under 4 years.
I'm dreading it coming out, being read in less than a week then having to wait another three years for "A Dance With Dragons" |
Even the girl with three powerful critters has some serious problems.
Yeah, Danaerys wins over Arya and Jon as my favourite character just slightly |
Well to me Jon and Arya are equal. I cannot decide who is cooler and those that come close are only Tyrion and Sandor Clegane.
|
The Earth's Children series, book five, The Shelters of Stone, by Jean Auel. Completed after no fewer than 11 years since book four hit the shelves.
.. Since that makes three Arya/Jon supporters in a row, something bad is bound to happen to both of them :D The onion knight's quite lovable too. |
Dany for me... she is going to show up on the continent and either kick some serious ass or save everyone's ass... maybe a bit of both.
|
I haven't finished the first book yet, altho I've had it for months(circumstances, circumstances..) but so far Jon and Tyrion are by far my favorite characters.
