Always considered this guy to be nigh unbeatable in BG1, but I recently lost some respect for him :D Maybe it's just that playing ridiculous battles like the ones in Tactics and Ascension over and over gives you a new perspective on effective prebuffing. I remember when I tried to fight Drizzt with a single fighter a year ago, must've went through at least 20 different types of potions and the preparations for the fight took minutes, but that still failed miserably. Today though, with a level 7/8 dualclassed Fighter/Mage (154k XP) buffed with,
Potion of Storm Giant Strength 3x Potion of Mind Focusing Potion of Invulnerability Potion of Power Oil of Speed Prot from Evil Blur Imp Invisiblity Defensive Harmony (from allied cleric otherwise being passive) using the Short Sword of Backstabbing and the usual top of the line equipment like Helm and Cloak of Balduran, Golden Girdle, GoWE, Full Plate etc, I was sporting -26 AC vs Slashing and -3 THAC0. Drizzt was dead in less than 2 rounds while not scoring a single hit himself. Insane mode, but I guess that didn't make much of a difference. http://atlas.walagata.com/w/rataxes/drizztkill.jpg Just felt like sharing [ 03-17-2005, 08:29 PM: Message edited by: Rataxes ] |
Nice one Rataxes! Pushing the BG2 envelope as always I see ;)

I'm curious as to why you drank 3 potions of Mind Focusing?

Aye, after playing BGT I will never go back. Well, good going, I remember the first time I killed Drizzt, a momentous achievement: now it seems like a walk in the park :D
|
Perhaps it's just nostalgia, but the BG2 interface has nothing on BG1 to me. In fact, BG2 has nothing on BG1 in several other aspects as well.
(Why can't anyone do a version of BG2 with the BG1 interface, and get Kevin Michael Richardson to re-do the narration while you're at it!) |
i reckon the bg 2 one is better. i used bg2 and liked it far better than when i went back to bg1 recently..
im also interested in what item you had on, like armour and such [ 03-26-2005, 04:20 AM: Message edited by: timothy trotter ] |
Like I said, just the usual equipment any fighter is likely to have at the end of the game. Full Plate, Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise, Helm of Balduran, Shield +1/+4 vs Missiles, Ring of Protection +2, Ring of Fire Resistance, Cloak of Balduran, Boots of Speed, Golden Girdle and the Short Sword of Backstabbing.

woulnt it be better to use something like a bastard swort +1 or long sword +1
|
Probably not mate.
1d6 + 3 = 4 - 9 damage before strength. 1d8 + 1 = 2 - 9 damage before strength. Is there any other reasons you'd prefer to use the long swords/bastard swords that I'm missing? |
Rataxes, I would agree with you partly about the BG1 interface being better than the BG2. I love BG1, and prefer it to BG2, but I hate the slow movement rate compared with the second, so it's nice to have that. I do however prefer the BG1 portraits etc. I think the BG1 inventory just looks bigger, bolder, and more dated.

I mostly prefer BG1s graphics to BG2, item pictures and avatars are good examples of how much better BG1 looks. Doesn't a BG2 human warrior in plate mail look absolutely ridiculous? |

I'll just strike down on two things here:
1) YES! The BG1 interface is much much nicer than the BG2 one. BG2 is simply overdone. Too much crap ornaments and yucky icons for more or less anything. Matter of taste I guess. 2) You can actually lift Frostbrand from Drizzt without fighting him making it the best freely accessible one-handed weapon. Also for defeating him. EDIT: I knew there was something haunting my mind. One more issue: 3) Where did you get the scroll of imp invisibility? I have been hunting for that one for ages.
