I can't wait to see this movie. Quentin hasn't made a flick for like 6 years since the ill fated jackie brown. Uma Thurman as a samuri. I heard this is his goriest movie to date. I bet it is going to be totally awesome.
|
Time will tell...best of luck to the movie makers!
|
Its coming out in two parts I heard. One is coming out now and the next one next year.

I am already hearing about how gory and stuff it is. after dusk till dawn I don't doubt it |

Three things to note here: 1. Gory. As all hell. 2. This is anime-turned-live-action. In case you can't clue in to this, the movie contains over 20 mins of actual anime (cartoon) regarding the past history of Lucy Liu's character. He has gone further than anyone ever of turning the anime art form into live action -- complete with wonderfully choreographed over-the-top fights and lots of overly-spurting blood. If you like anime you will love this flick. 3. Splitting it was GREAT. He really takes time to focus on the intense emotions and passing seconds in scenes of high drama, such as pre-fight stalls, post-fight brutal killings, and moments of epiphany/realization. He pulls no punches and delivers wonderfully. In short, I was much more impressed than I expected to be. While I hate Q.T. as a person -- for he is MUCH too arrogant (I'll cite you to reasons if you ask) and over-the-top -- I nevertheless give kudos to good filmmaking where I see it. This movie is about righteous vengeance and stolid fair purpose. Uma's character, in killing one betrayer, shows great fairness and compassion. She tells the betrayer all the people she would have to kill to make things "square." But then, she only kills the betrayer -- not her whole family. Also, all the characters have CHARACTER, i.e. individual believable motiviations, etc. Even Bill says she deserves her revenge, and may have it. A very good flick. |

I dunno -- if they didn't show nudity I think you could do it live action. Anyway, do you agree with my thought that it is anime-turned-live-action? |
BTW, did anyone else wonder why one of the 88 didn't just pull out a gun?
|
Yeah i do.. but i also wonder how much anime is inspired by old Toho films which seem to be more of the muse for Kill Bill than anything else.

What's a "Toho" film?
Maybe Quentin just listened to too much Bare Naked Ladies: Like Kurasawa, I make mad films Okay, I don't make films But if I did they'd have a Samurai |

Toho is the company that made tons of Sonny Chibas movies. You should try to find a movie called the Street Fighter. Classic flick, the first movie to get an X rating for violent content and not sexuality in North America (if you look for it try to find the full 91 minute version). Have you ever seen True Romance? (written by QT i believe) well the film that Patricia Arquette and Cristian Slater go see is a Sonny Chiba double bill and the scene they show in it is classic Toho stuff. Yakuza in suits carrying swords around dispensing frontier justice.. Same kind of stuff we see in Kill Bill.
They also did the Lone Wolf and Cub movies if you're a fan of that story. Now those are some wicked shows.. Awesome swordplay, gallons of blood, revenge.. Toshiro Mifune is the one out for Revenge in those ones. Check out the comic book reprinted in NA by Dark Horse for the full story of that one.. It's a great series. Wow, I just saw it and all I can say is WOW .
The "sequel" is definetly on my "must see" list... One thing I really liked was the music, you can say lot of things about Tarantino but not that he has bad music taste... |

This is an alternate reality, we don't really go aroung in plane and bike with Katanas, and most Schoolgirl don't learn to fight with spike and chain. ;) I agree that's it's a mix between an anime movie and a traditional japanese martial art movie, as seen from the view of a westerner. I've seen it two times already. I even sneaked my 12 years old brother and his friend for the second time, and they loved it. |
Indeed, Kill Bill is a great movie. Saw it yesterday, and I loved it.

Gonna see it tomorrow. Yeah!
|
All I can say is woah!
My face was sore after the movie from smiling so much!! It was so good! hahaha |
Saw it and I must say that I was DISAPPOINTED!
It seemed to me like a crossover of anime and Sergio-Leone western (which were also inspired by Japanes Samurai stories) and this is not necessarily bad. Technically the movie was great. Fabolously edited, great fight scenes, great camera guiding,... BUT there was too little dialogue IMHO which I had always considered one of the strong points of Tarantino's movies: The completely pointless yet entertaingin dialogues, like tipping the waitress in Reservoir Dogs or the hilarious dialogues during the Bonnie Situation in Pulp Fiction. My second point of critic is: I was bored to death for the second half of the movie, because I figured it would end with Lucy Liu's death (I hadn't heard about that before, honestly) and the way the flick was going it was pretty obvious that Lucy Liu would die in a one-on-one battle once Uma Thurman had defeated enough of her goons. About the time I figured that out Tarantino just kept throwing goons into one and the same location and had Uma Thurman do - wonderfully choreographed - swordfighting for about 45 minutes. If I had wanted to see something like this I'd have gone to the ballet ;) I guess the film shouldn't have been cut in half and that the second part will give it a better ending. If the second part balances it out and gives us more story and more dialogue, I would not have complained about watching a 4 hour movie as much as I have now about the short one ;) |
saw the movie.. bloody as hell but its a good movie.. kinda unrealistic but good
|
Oh, and while we're at it
Does anybody know the name of the song/musical piece which is playing right at the beginning when the screen says "OUR FEATURE PRESENTATION" for about 10-15 seconds? It rings a bell with me but I don't know which one ;) |
