Every 5 or 10 years they need to make a really fun Pirate romp. THis is the one for this decade. I give it 9 of 10 stars and have to say I really enjoyed it.

Depp played his part to a T and his entrance into the movie was one of the best ever entrances Mysticelt and I realy liked the movie. A must see.

This movie is much better then it should be, given that it is based on an amusement park ride

I loved spotting all the set pieces that were straight from the ride. A brilliantly done film

Timber Loftis 07-14-2003 02:00 PM

It was a great, fun film. The special effects were great, and the scene changes (running between 2 ships and a pirate cave 3 or 4 times) we mind-boggling. My jaw dropped when he said, "Boys, take a walk." Brilliant.

That has to be the worst pirate I've ever seen.
That has to be the best pirate I've ever seen.
:D :D :D

My mom won't let see it but I saw sinbad it is tight !

Albromor 07-16-2003 09:38 PM

Can anybody tell me why it got a PG-13 rating? I'm thinking of taking my kids, but some PG-13s might as well be R in some instances. Thanks

Larry_OHF 07-17-2003 12:51 AM

I will be seeing it this weekend. I saw LXG tonight. My review of it is in the proper thread. I cannot wait to see this one! I will post here when I have done so.

Well there is drinking and some pirate fighting (very little blood though). And the Skele pirates might be a bit scary for the younger kids. I think the drinking more then anything else pushed from PG to PG-13.

Albromor 07-17-2003 11:52 AM

Thanks, Rokenn, that is what I was looking for. So I take it then that language is not an issue here?

Not that I recall.

Sir Taliesin 07-17-2003 04:17 PM

Saw it Tuesday night. We took my 4 year old to see and he didn't even bat an eye. I Thought it was a great movie, especially the special effects. Depp played an excellent part as Capt'n Silver. I also found Kiera Knightly to be a total BABE!!! You all ought to see it!!!

Larry_OHF 07-19-2003 07:09 PM

Saw it today, and really liked it. It had tons of humor, a love plot, cool skeletons, and best of all it was clean and decent...so that means my wife will let me buy it on DVD. Yes, it is buyable, and I look forward to getting it.

I really liked the character in-depthness. You get to know the three main characters well enough to satisfy those that want it.

I asked that anyone still timid about seeing it take me on my word that you don't want to miss it in the theatres! People actually applauded! I ahve not seen an applause since...er...since...well...I don't remember!

Albromor 07-19-2003 09:39 PM

Thanks, Larry, and it looks like the family and I are headed for the theater this coming Thursday!

Tancred 07-20-2003 07:45 PM

Damn! Saw a trailer in the cinema, and thought 'Wow! A Secret of Monkey Island movie!'

Dang. I mean, Orlando Bloom is even DRESSED like Guybrush Threepwood.

Oh well. Looking forward to this one, definitely.

Albromor 07-24-2003 04:32 PM

My family and I absolutely loved this movie! Honestly, I had more fun watching this Film than the Two Towers (which I really liked). I can't really think of any weak spots at all.

Gabrielles blades 07-25-2003 11:06 AM

i too think it was a great movie!
though the plot towards the end gets a little fairy tale escque in that things happening are just too good to be true

Sythe 07-27-2003 06:04 AM

Just saw it today and it was litterly amazing.

pritchke 07-28-2003 11:34 AM

Grendal 07-31-2003 02:23 PM

here I was trying to save my cash but now I have to go see this movie!

Thoran 08-01-2003 08:43 AM

Definitely go see it... a GREAT pirate adventure! Kids under 10 might be a bit freaked, so definitely use parental guidance. It's the first Disney flick I've seen in 10 years that didn't suck, must be a fluke.

Morgeruat 08-01-2003 01:06 PM

it's also the first one I've heard of that's rated PG-13

Grendal 08-01-2003 01:47 PM

Well I went and saw it yesterday and I will probably have to say that would rank in my top ten favorite movies list! GREAT show! Effects were awsome! And I just loved Capt Sparrow, a scallywag to be sure!

I think your right, it's too bad too because they used to be able to make rated G movies that parents enjoyed watching. These days it's other animation studios carrying that torch (although some are affiliated with Disney).

Xen 08-01-2003 02:17 PM

I liked it.

DameonRules 08-02-2003 08:33 AM

I unterly loved this movie. i really like depp i think he is a great actor. i recomend this movie to everyone. i think that the reason it mgiht be pg13 is becusae of the skeletons. there was also alot of drinking. but i don't remeber there being any blood or cursing.

Sir Goulum 08-02-2003 11:00 PM

Yea, it was a great movie! I liked when he 'sailed' in at the begginning!

Calaethis Dragonsbane 08-12-2003 12:22 AM

Saw the film yesterday... it was full of cheese... totally... it was awful :D I gave it 7 out of 10

There *were* a couple of weak spots. But I don't wanna write any spoilers. Has to do with the moon and a certain character who happened to step in it a couple of times...

Tancred 08-21-2003 08:24 PM

Haven't seen a movie as entertaining as this for a long, long time. Beats Lord of the Rings in the humour stakes, beats Shrek on action... it's pure fun! Johnny Depp made this movie. I've never said that before.

Whenever I hear Capt. Sparrow I think back and remember Saemon Havarian of BG2 fame. It's the same accent, I swear!

Also... what dead spots, Cal? If it's the character I'm thinking of, there's no dead spots, to be sure...

Lord Lothar 08-21-2003 08:35 PM

Great movie! Funniest movie I've seen in a while. Johnny Depp was great! Great acting, great plot, great humour. Overall I'd give it a 10/10 for sure.

Reeka 09-03-2003 10:52 AM

Went to see it Labor Day. It was fantastic! Great writing, directing, acting, and use of effects. What more can I say?

Mouse 09-03-2003 11:54 AM

It reminded me of "The Princess Bride" - I can give it no higher praise

Reeka 09-03-2003 06:56 PM

I've never seen "The Princess Bride," Mouse. I take it that maybe I should see it.

Why did they need the blood of Bill (the guy's father) for the curse to be lifted? Why him?

I think becuase of the blood. If they get the blood they are not cursed anymore. Altough it`s been a long time so memory is fuzzy...

Yea, I know they need blood, but I'd like to know why they need his blood. Why not anybody's blood? What's so special about him?
