So, who has ordered it? Which copy did you buy? Deluxe? Normal?

Sir Exxon 06-17-2003 10:22 AM

There's several editions? What's the differences? Does the Deluxe one simply look fancier?

Anyway, OotP doesn't come to Norway before Christmas, I think, so it'll be a while until I read it. Unless I get my ass in gear and actually order an English copy somewhere.

Night Stalker 06-17-2003 11:20 AM

It's scheduled to arrive Saturday! Can't wait! I just got the normal hardback version.

Guess I won't see daylight this weekend!

Larry_OHF 06-17-2003 12:30 PM

I have actually decided to wait and test my luck on finding it on the shelves. I know I will be called a fool...but I jsut did not want to preorder. I have the previous four in hard-back, and will also get this one in hardback...but I know nothing of what is called "deluxe".

Sadly enough, I will also be out of town on Saturday, with no book store anywhere around. (Mountain camping)...and when I return, I doubt I'll have the money until the 30th of the month to buy it. Poor me. I can't wait to read it though.

Ziroc 06-17-2003 07:51 PM

I ordered the Deluxe Ed. (Yeah, it was costly) but I really like the extra art (being an Artist and all I guess) :D :D

I can't wait!

T/-/alali 06-19-2003 10:05 AM

I preordered it on Amazon.com. If you preorder it there you will recieve it the day it comes out even if you select 3-7 day shipping. For those of you who don't know what Deluxe version is it just has a fancy cloth book front and some trinkets that come with it. Just another way for those publishers to rip you off ;)

Link 06-19-2003 10:08 AM

I'm really looking forward to reading this new Harry Potter book, and it's only a couple of days until the release so I'm kind of excited, but nothing special. My mind is occupied with the coming rowing matches

Anyways, I didn't preordered it, never have, never will, because frankly I don't care that much about something material such as a book to have it as soon as possible. Everything can wait, there's no rush. I bet my little brother *is* actually glad because it is his birthday soon.. I bet he's getting the new HP as he has the first four books as well :D

It actually has extended artwork, and the paper is nicer (usually) but I enjoy the art, so I bought it And yep, got it at Amazon! So Sat, I should have my copy!!! Imagine all the shipping companies on Friday... and those books are heavy suckers

Link 06-20-2003 03:09 AM

Yep, it's definitely a big book! IIRC it's a third longer than The Goblet of Fire

DameonRules 06-20-2003 06:22 AM

The 5th book is only a few pages longer cause they used smaller text. i wish that i could pick it up on saturday cause i preordered it but sadly i won't get it for another month or so when my family sends it out to me. I should be home but i have to defend the free world and all here in kuwait *sigh* oh well hopefully my family sends the book to me quickly.

Moiraine 06-20-2003 07:09 AM

Here in France, the French translation will only come out on December, and the Harry Potter series is so popular that bookshops have decided to put on sale the English book everywhere in France - which is a first : until now, only a few bookshops, all of them in Paris, sold books in foreign languages !

So I'll walk to my local bookshop on Saturday and buy it for my son - along with a dictionary. ;)

Spelca 06-20-2003 01:59 PM

I ordered it at the beginning of the week and yesterday they said it was packed already! But today is a holiday and they don't deliver mail on weekends here, so I might get it on Monday or Tuesday! I CAN'T WAIT!!! I doubt I'll go to sleep the day I get it because I'll be up reading all night. :D
I ordered the, er, normal version of the book, with the cover for children, since it goes with the other books I have. I am so excited! Apparently this book is 255,000 words long (Goblet of Fire = 191,000) which means it's almost a third longer! YAY! :D *bounces off*

PS: The book is causing problems for the postmen: http://books.guardian.co.uk/harrypot...978292,00.html

pcgiant 06-20-2003 11:21 PM

Guess what I've got in my hands right now?
That's right, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix!
I've read 39 pages so far, and its already great!

Night Stalker 06-21-2003 01:13 AM

Sythe 06-21-2003 01:17 AM

I might go to the shop today, maybe it's sold out then I just wait for the Dutch edition. I have four in Dutch so I'm actually doubting if I should buy this one in English

Pangur Ban 06-21-2003 06:31 AM

Got my copy this morning, and just finished it.

Magnificent
Superb
Awesome

How long do we have to wait before Book 6?

philip 06-21-2003 08:45 AM

I just found a copy in the CD store when I bought a CD. Now I have it too!! going to start soon

IronDragon 06-21-2003 11:36 PM

Made special trip to pick up my copy. AM currently taking a break from reading, been at is for about six hours now.

It was worth the wait.

Ziroc 06-22-2003 02:30 AM

Amazon promised we would get our copy today, and yep! Got it right at noon! I'm gonna read it after I finish a Dragonlance novel, 'Lord Soth'.

Faceman 06-22-2003 08:02 AM

Well I'm patient.
I'm going to wait until my sister buys it for my nephew and then read it once I get to visit them again.

DameonRules 06-22-2003 09:12 AM

Well just konw that i hate you all who have the book:) cause there is no way that i will be able to cause of where iam at. so i yes iam pouting.

The Lilarcor 06-22-2003 05:14 PM

I got it midnight at Walmart, 2 hour line. And I got done about 3 hours ago.

Larry_OHF 06-23-2003 12:44 PM

I bought it Saturday, in the Mountains where I was camping! I have averaged 300 pages per night, and will probably finish tonight if I can stay awake!

WIthout spoiling...All I can say is that this is one of the most exciting books I have ever read, not ever wanting to put it down without seeing what is going to happen in the next page. I am totally bound by it, and it's complete page per page adventure. When i say that, I mean that each page is worthy of admiration. I have been yelling, pouting, screaming, and laughing through each page. My wife thinks I have flipped.

Now...I would LOVE to talk to somebody about what I have read up to the point that I am at. I do not want to know anything that is past where I am at, but maybe somebody that has read up to where I am at would like to converse about what has transpired so far? If so, let me know who you are! I guess the right way to mark spoilers is to include the page number that you are up to, so people that are behind you will not see your post.

I *loved* the fight between Dumbledoor and Voldemort... so well written... just amazing...
And the prophecy... one did ofcourse have to wonder why Sybil Treelawny got the position of Divination mistress... and now we know...
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... the Dark Lord will mark him as equal, and either must die at the hands of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies..."
Explained alot, realy.

But I must say, poor Sirius... poor Harry... and I realy want to hurt Kreacher.

I have also just finished it! Man, amazing, absolutely amazing! The best book yet. A lot is explained, and the book left me with a surge of emotions running through me as if I had experienced it myself. Near the beginning, I was in a nervous sweat, the near-end had me on the edge of my seat...SPOILER I guess...

JK Rowling is an incredibly gifted author...and she should hurry up with that sixth book! :D

Sythe 06-25-2003 01:32 AM

Me I am going to take my time through the book. I don't like rushing through books because once I am finished I am unhappy that the wonderful story has came to an end. I am going read this book soooooo slowly that by the time I finished it the 6th would be in stores. Heh I wish.

pcgiant 06-25-2003 03:10 AM

Is there anyone else who was less than impressed with this book?

I loved the book, of course. Though it made me really sad... Harry kept being tortured by that Umbridge and other people, and one of my favourite characters died... :( I found it really dark... I expect the sixth one will be like this too... But that doesn't mean I didn't love the book!!! :D I read it for three days in a row, from the moment I got home (5 pm) to the time I got to bed. I even sacrifised a few hours of sleep in the evenings so that I only slept 4 hours (I work early). But now I can read it again. Yay! :D When is the sixth one coming out?

PS: Did anybody understand what: "Rememeber my last, Petunia." was supposed to mean? I understood that Dumbledore didn't want her to throw Harry out, because of the "blood" protection, but what did he mean by "my last"?

Bah you people are far too slow I downloaded the book, yes the original one, last evening at 4p.m and had finished it by 5a.m. in the morning Wonderful book, brilliant, eloquently written .... and all the other praises on can throw at the book ... except perhaps it was too short to satisfy ;)

Gammit 06-28-2003 10:52 PM

I read it in a matter of days, and all I have to say is OH MY GOD IT WAS AWFUL (for a HP book)!!! I guess you can't please everybody...

The last book was so long because... well, it NEEDED to be (so much relevent detail). This book... well... spending (what seemed like) 100 pages of Harry sitting around, being pissed off at everyone in a house with little to no advacement of the plot put me to sleep??? Chapter 12, Harry wakes up, Chapter 13, Harry has breakfast, Chapter 14, Harry brushes his teeth... nope, they STILL won't let him in the meetings. Secondly, everybody knows Rowling's style... build up the mysteries, build them up, then reveal EVERYTHING in the last three chapters... which I love... but did the ending (and point of maximum tension) have to be only 50 pages out of 800??? What the heck happened with Cho at the end (what a let-down)? Why hasn't Harry been able to play Quidditch in years?

All in all, I found myself staying up super-late, furiously flipping through pages just to find a point of excitement. Alas, it almost never arrived... and by the time it did, I was pretty bored.

The download after searching for quite some time on kazaa while the reading part .... well i guess its natural for me to read quite quickly, and i am after all on summer vacations, but that does have an advantage ... the excitement never dies, as it often does in slow reading

Tancred 06-29-2003 07:05 PM

The Potter books are light cheerful children's books! Easy to read. I managed the first four in eight hours. Kind of a cram. But I didn't suffer for it, so hooray.

Am I reading this right? Are you admitting to stealing a copyright protected piece of literature from a download site, instead of paying for it legally? You know, I think our rules about piracy also pertains to literature, and not just video games, but I am putting words in Ziroc's mouth that he has not uttered...so I do not know what to think. How do you feel about it?

Great book, Fred& George are now my idols. Will never forget the line "Give em Hell Peeves!" I must say, this book beats the third one 10x over (the 3rd was the best in my opinion until now)

The duel was awesome, and it was great seeing harry attempt the Crucio Curse on Sirius's cousin. The Order of the Phoenix reminded me of Morrowind (the group opposing Dagoth Ur).

Dumbledore's Army (DA) was really cool of Harry to do, and where would we be without Dobby. The whole thing with Cho was rather stupid in my opinion though. I wonder what happened to Grawp...

Furthermore, I got really mad when I saw Snape's memory in the Pensieve, and I want to kill Umbridge, by boiling her alive.
