I've recently caught up with Salvatore's Drizzt works, and am looking for something to hold me over until the next installment arrives. Have any of you read his Cleric Quintet series? If so, is it good?

Thank you, drive through...

YES!! It is an excellent series. It was sheer torture having to wait for the next book over the course of 3 YEARS!!! But it was definitely worth the wait.

Superb character development with lots of little idiosyncratic twists common to Salvatore's books. Very unusual cast of characters. Salvatore seems to deliberately pick some of the supposedly "weaker" classes and gives them a chance to shine.

Each book has it's own "self contained" storyline (complete with appropriate climatic finish). Yet each one also carries the primary storyline throughout and continues on to the next book in a seamless transition.

It's quite possibly one of Salvatore's best literary achievements.

I read the first one and liked it so much that I have gotten the entire thing in one thick volume. I like the fact that it has a female monk in it (naturally) and it is different from other fantasy books I have read. I think you will like it.

Reeka I did the same thing..I got the Collected Hard Cover version I loved the use of non-traditional character classes like Monk, Cleric, Druid as the Main characters. I give the series a

Wow, thanks for the great replies. I'll buy them ASAP!!!

The quintet is a really good series. I wish they would make more. He
and some of the characters are in some of the Drizzt books too. Like
"One Thousand Orcs" where you'll find Ivan and Pikel.

Elmwood I suggest you put a spoiler tag for that last sentance.

Cleric's Quintent was O K. I just thought the monk was overpowered. Overall I'll give it a 6 out of ten I didn't like it that much. If you like Cleric's, Dwarves, Monks buy this book ASAP. The last book in the series is the best with a good perfect ending.

Yes the series is excellent. An often overlooked masterpiece that offers a little bit or everything from horror, to action, from love story, to humor, it even touches on theology. This series truly has it all. I am a big fan of the series and of Ivan and Pickel. They are definitely 2 of my favorite fantasy characters ever. If you have not read this series I would definitely pick up the whole thing ASAP, after you read the first book you will be hooked. I too remember how hard it was to wait for the rest of the series at is was being written, but I found it was well worth the weight. I have read through this entire series twice, and am thinking about starting it again.

i havent read the series, so i cant really comment, but ive heard alot of different opinions: some say its the worst of salvatore, some say its probably the best! i guess ill check out at the library, that way i wont be dissapointed if its not that good...

Sythe 06-09-2003 08:38 PM

Well Raistlin Majere I suggest you get it at your local (Sorry if I can't spell it right mates.) Libalry

I just finished them up this morning. All in all a good read. I thoroughly liked the main characters being classes that are not prominently featured in other books as has been said. I LOVE Pikel the would-be Druid or Doo-dad.

The only criticism I have is that Salvatore is long on the descriptions of the fight scenes. I think what he stretched into Five volumes could have been done in three. I must that I got a little bored during some of the fight sequences.

I loved hid Icewind Dale Trilogy. I also like his "Star Wars" books he has written. I guess "Cleric Quintet" is more alliterative than "Cleric Trilogy"! ;)

Overall, a good read. I would give it a B+.
