I was rereading my favorite book today. "the silent blade" Mostly because Artemis Entreiri is my favorite character in all the wizard of the coast books. As I was doing this I found myself wondering what all your favorite characters are. Like Drizzt or Elminster. :D

SomeGuy 11-08-2002 09:49 PM

DRIZZT FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morgeruat 11-08-2002 10:02 PM

two fav characters from the two worlds... Fizban, and Sturm Brightblade, a not too distant third would be Drizzt Do'Urden

philip 11-09-2002 06:47 AM

Definitely Tass(lehof burfoot) He's so cool and funny when he 'collects' things. Shame my D&D DM doesn't allow me to play kender (and I know why ) but
my halfling rogue will come pretty close.

Kaltia 11-09-2002 07:14 AM

Having read only one Dragonlance book (The Dragons, by Douglas Niles) I don't think I'm really elegible. pause. Unless you count the best char in that book, Darlantian & his grandson Lectral the silvers :D
FR: Drizzt. Actually, Guenwhyvar, but hey ^ ^

Bristowe 11-09-2002 08:59 AM

I've always liked Raistlin and Tas from DragonLance...

AzRaeL StoRmBlaDe 11-09-2002 10:39 AM

Fizban for sure. After than maybe Raist's brother, Caramon I think? I havent read those in years maybe its time for another go at them.

Ilythiiri 11-10-2002 08:14 AM

Mine would be Lord Soth!

Dreamer128 11-10-2002 01:02 PM

Raistlin is great. The best character from Dragonlance IMHO.
I'm not very fond of Drizz't though. He is just waaaaay to nice for a Drow. They should have made him a LG Paladin of Mielikki. ;)

Edit: Typo

I tend to think of Soth as more of a Ravenloft character because that's where he's currently at (in terms of location in the established D&D worlds, despite all the objections from Wies and Hickman about it... that's why he was even in dragons of summer flame, it was there protest against having him in ravenloft)

Iron_Ranger 11-11-2002 01:34 AM

All the DL characters from the chronicals were awsome. Tanis, Tas, Flint, Sturm, The Majere Bros, all of them were great. Hard to pick a fav.

I hate Drizzt, hes sooo...boring.

Triconan 11-11-2002 01:03 PM

I forgot to add my fav. dragonlance char I would have to say Tas. He lightened up some of the darker moments in the books.

Lady Melanthe 11-11-2002 09:06 PM

Raistlin Majere... and... Takhisis.

Gabriel 11-11-2002 09:20 PM

DL- Kitiara (I hope that here name been so long since I read any DL books, Rastlin and Carmans sister.)
edit: Thank you Lady Melanthe for the correct spelling.

FR- none they so bland.

It's Kitiara.

Heartless Butterscotch 11-12-2002 02:39 AM

Jarlaxle of Bregan D'aerthe.

Denubis. A true legend

Timber Loftis 11-12-2002 04:38 PM

Well, I'll go with the crowd for once: Tasselhoff Burfoot and Raistlin Majere.

In FR, Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle are pretty cool.

The only thing good about Drizzt, who started out pretty cool before Dark Elfdom became trite, is that I am fond of the really smelly cheeses, and he is certainly of the rankest variety.

BTW, I began reading Sea of Swords recently and it is absolute swill. Anyone want my copy of the book? I only got to page 60. Sorry, but it smells bad because I peed on it after I read the first Le'lionel/gnome interraction. Note to all writers: if you ever ever EVER have to say "he gave him a deadpan look" to convey a deadpan look, do the rest of us a favor and go kill yourself immediately.

The Trickster 11-13-2002 02:41 AM

Tasselhoff was a fantastic character! I have fond memories of reading Dragonlance when I was about 13 years old and loving it.

One day I'll read them again!

Lord Starshadow 11-13-2002 02:54 AM

My favorite character from the Dragonlance novels come from the second-generation. I really liked Usha, the "daughter" of Raistlin. Steel Brightblade was my second favorite character. He was one of the best done characters in the series, in my opinion.

Zarr 11-14-2002 06:10 PM

Cadderly from R.A Salvatore's The Cleric Quintet with Drizzt a close second.

Morgeruat 11-14-2002 07:15 PM

up to siege of darkness Drizzt was my fav forgotten realms character, but now he's become a cliche and I haven't seen bob salvatore do anything new with him in a very long time (some of the companions of the hall are getting some much needed time, like Wulfgar in spine of the world, and Artemis in silent blade and servant of the shard)

How could I forget Jarlaxle. I take back everything I just said. J. must the best, most amusing char ever in a D&D book.

Arnabas 11-15-2002 08:51 AM

In DL my favourite was Sturm. No question about it. I have always liked honourable characters. His death was one of the saddest things I can remember reading. I also liked Raistlin because I liked the conflict in him. Actually, I liked pretty much everyone in DL, but Sturm was far and away the best.
In FR, I'd have to say Drizzt, but this may be partly because I haven't read many FR books. I hear people complaining that he's getting stale. After so many books, I guess it is possible, but so far I've only read the first 6 books, so I have no real opinion yet.
Thing is, everyone and his brother started playing dual-wielding Drow rangers and then blamed Drizzt for it. Kind of reminds me of alternative music. You'll love a band until they become popular. Even if their music doesn't change, the simple fact that everyone is now listening to them turns off a lot of their former fans, as if to say "it's popular, so it's crap".

Morgeruat 11-15-2002 09:08 AM

I have no problems with drizzt, or people trying to play characters based off of him, they just have to play by my rules (I think the rules shipped way back with the unearthed arcana back in may of '85 work just fine for drow)

my main problem with the drizzt books are that after passage to dawn were just rehashing the preivous books and riding off of their popularity, there hasn't been very much new to the story at all.

Arnabas 11-15-2002 09:41 AM

That's too bad.
The problem is that when you write a book, you do so because you have something to say. Sometimes, though, a book or setting becomes very popular and the author thinks "hey, a lot of fans want me to write more", and they try to do so, but might now have any new thoughts to convey. They try to supply their fans with what they want, but the original thoughts and emotions behind the character have all been expressed.

Morgeruat 11-15-2002 01:31 PM

*nods* of course I haven't read the new book, so i can't say about that one, Ziroc recommended it though

L33T3LF 11-17-2002 11:41 PM

Favorite FR characters... hmmmm....

Arelyn Moonblade, Danilo Thann, Liriel Banre & Fyodor of Rashemen

Darkman 11-19-2002 11:09 AM

Favorite DL character.. Tas and Raist

My favorite FR character.. I'm not too sure. I've read over a dozen FR novels and none of them really had very good character development. Most of the characters were either hard to believe or poorly developed. I guess Jarlaxle is my favorite, but only because none of the others really stand out.
