Just a bit curious here. Who was your favorite Bond actor and why?
My favorite was Sean Connery because, as the youngsters often say, he is "da man." Maybe I just got really used to him, but he really put life into the character. Roger Moore was decent, and Pierce Brosnan was okay, but the other guy (can't think of his name) was terrible, in my opinion. |
Sean Connery, because of the accent. :D
|
Connery established bond as the character that he is know as. That's why he's the best. While some of the bond actor are victims of the movies they are in I generally agree w/ your assement. I think Pierce could have been the second best but after the first movie he was in they weren't that good. Hopefully the new one is better than the last two.

i think the other guy is Roger Daultery(that's misspelled) Also connery is just a better actor than the other guys. Pierce is the only one who's established himself at all beyond bond. Name another movie by the other two guys. You can't(proably). Connery on the other hand is known as a great actor.

i like connery....only because this one time i wasn't paying much attention and all i saw was a woman put a cigarette out on his chest, turns out there was an ash tray hidden in all that hair!!!! shocked me tho, i guess my idea is any man hairy enough to hide an ashtray on his chest is darn spiffy in my book!

Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery
I can't wait for the next Bond movie, Die Another Day! |
Pierce Brosnan...he's just so much better than some of them. Sean connery is close behind.
|
Pierce Brosnan is doing a real good job, but I still think Connery is Bond. His acting skills are just way ahead of everybody elses in the series. Just about everything he appears in turns to gold, it's probably a good statement that the 007 franchise is where it is today because of Connery.

I didn't mind Roger Moore...some of the ones he did were classics. I just thought Connery did a way better job. One of my favourite Bond films was The Man with the Golden Gun

Hmm... I think the vast majority of people agree that Sean Connery was the best, if not Bond himself. Also looks like Roger D. is the least liked. No surprise really.
I have to agree with the sentiment that Sean Connery is the best overall actor out of the four men, and that might have a bit to do with it. Of course, the accent is quite awesome. Pierce Brosnan isn't bad as Bond, but to me, there's something missing in his Bond. I'm not sure what it is exactly... he just seems to be missing something Bondish. Anyone else have this feeling? |
The Bond most people forget is George Lazenby, who also played Jarod's father on The Pretender. The Bond most people should forget is Timothy Dalton (no, I didn't like him very much).
Belle doesn't think that Pierce Brosnan misses anything with his interpretation of Bond. That's my competition. |
Pirece Brosnan is my favourite Bond. Goldeneye was the first Bond film that I saw in a cinema and it's still my favourite. (best Bond game ever as well)
Interesting Bond Fact No. 1 - Brosnan's contract to play James Bond specifies that while contracted as Bond he is not permitted to appear in any other film wearing a tuxedo. Interesting Bond Fact No. 2 - Actors from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales have played Bond. Interesting Bond Fact No. 3 - The budget for Dr. No was only $1,000,000, but when costs overran by $100,000 United Artists wanted to pull the plug, fearing they would never recoup their outlay. |

Sean Connery is by far the best. I thought George Lazenby was ok (nice to hear from another Pretender fan-- I watched that show religiously until it went off the air. I was left with a cliffhanger and no resolution, because we never got the follow-up movies here! )and while I grew up mainly with Roger Moore, I didn't like the way he turned the series more toward comedy. For that reason, I liked Timothy Dalton, because he brought back the "I'm-gonna-kick-your-butt!" style of Bond. Pierce Brosnan is also more than acceptable to me. I always liked him as an actor, and he strikes a good balance between the humour and the more serious aspects of the character.
Does anyone else remember Casino Royale? I forget who played Bond there... I keep thinking David Niven, but that doesn't seem quite right... |
I'd say Connery, even though he is before my time!
Lol, I've seen em all, Brosnan in my opinion is ok, but he doesn't suit it that well. He seems sleazy! |
My favourite Bond is still Sean Connery, he is just perfect! I also like Timothy Dalton but he is much better in historical movies.

Don't forget that Woody Allen as Jimmy Bond in Casino Royale.
Arnabas, Belle and I have 6 tapes of Pretender episodes, as well as the movies "Pretender 2001" and "Island of the Haunted". From what I have seen, Mr. Sickle has the plots for the next several movies already worked out; all they need now is to get them made.... |
I think Connery is the all time classic Bond, however if there were ever someone born to take hisplace it was Pierce Brosnan and he should have done it while Remmington Steele was still airing.
EDit: After reading other peoples impression of Brosnan, maybe Im just remembering Remmington Steele and filling in blanks that Brosnan isn't actually covering. [ 11-06-2002, 09:52 PM: Message edited by: MagiK ] |

The age thing is not a shot, I was just curious if you were old enough to be interested in the series. |

Well, I'm going to be contraversial. As usual. I say Dalton.
My reasons are that Bond, if you really think about it is quite a tragic character. The only two bonds to have really captured this, in my view, are Dalton and Brosnan (to a lesser extent). Bond lives for the defense of his country but his country doesn't ever really give anything back to him. His entire life revolves around violence and death, he is quite a dark character. So I think he needs a sort of dark, soul searching, persona to go with this. Plus I think Dalton had the best film to date - Licence to Kill. My least favorite is Moore. Argh! Bond is not supposed to be a comedian! Just in general Moore was far too cheesey to be a proper Bond, he got away with being kitsch, but never actually very good. |
Personally I like Brosnan the most. Connery is great too, but I just like Brosnan more for some reason. He just seems more "smooth".
