Who has seen this movie yet?

Does it kick as much ass like it looks like it will???

I am eagerly awaiting to go see it!!!

Gazza 04-19-2002 03:50 PM

Its excellent. I highly recommend it to everyone who looves a good action flick.

Moni 04-19-2002 10:08 PM

I got to miss it today, spending the most of my day in bed to rest but KHaN and our out-of-town friends went and he said its pretty good.
Very (first) "Conanesque" he says, (as in along the way, The Scorpion King meets up and travels with talented characters who are all there with him in the end).
I'd like to see it in the cinema before it gets released on DVD...there is nothing like the big screen to make those big action/adventure movies seem like you're right there in it.

Larry_OHF 04-19-2002 10:17 PM

The sound...it is definately the sound of the thunderous speakers that makes me go to the cinema.

Moni 04-19-2002 10:24 PM

I dig the sound too :D
We have Dolby Surround Sound with our DVD but without the big screen it seems like kind of a waste.

I dont think I will be able to bring my self to see it for one reason The Rocks in it. Now in the ring wrestlers are terrible actors but on the stage, well how the hell do they get hired in the first place their absolutly awful.

It might just be my dislike for wrestling in general thats clouding my judgement but I cant imagine myself going to watch it.

Moni 04-19-2002 10:49 PM

The Rock is a surprisingly good actor!
I saw his first appearance on Saturday Night Live and was completely impressed.
EDIT: I am not at all a fan of wrestling, just so you know
Don't let wrestler/*cough*"actors" like Hulk Hogan's lack of talent force you to miss out on The Rock's movie! If the subject interests you, take a chance, I bet you'll be surprised!

You are obviously forgetting such masterpieces as Suburban Commando and Body Slam

Isn't Scorpion King the prequel to Return of the mummy? If so, don't we already know whats going to happen?

Moni 04-20-2002 11:40 AM

KHaN said that it has nothing to do with The Mummy Returns but that the ending gives hint to a sequel that may.

Thoran 04-22-2002 02:29 PM

Saw it on Friday, good movie if you don't mind a bit of cheese. Well... OK... a LOOOTTTT of cheese. Pretty much cheese from front to back. It's good natured fun with a fair smattering of humor.

I enjoyed the heck out of it, it's almost an 'homage to the Conan and Indiana Jones flicks of the past.

I did find myself saying "Hit him with the chair!" a few times, and looking for the ropes too.

dragonwolf 04-23-2002 02:20 AM

yes unfortunatly the scorpion king is a "prequell" of the the mummy returns but THANKFULLY it wont be as screwed up thanks to the fact that this time the rock is an actual person and not a big growling bug

Dundee Slaytern 04-23-2002 04:08 AM

It made everybody in the theatre laugh out loud in a good way, and that in my opinion is a good indication that the majority of people will enjoy it.

Lifetime 04-23-2002 07:53 AM

It was AWESOME! It needed a fair bit of dumbing down on my part (I went to see it with a couple of guy friends, and only one other totally enjoyed it) but its 100% pure entertainment. Its pretty ridiculous at times, but the Rock is pretty much one of the best entertainers around, wrestler or no. Its one of those movies where you just laugh because it doesnt really take itself that seriously (there were so many stereotypes and cliches and its hard NOT to believe they were put in there on purpose).
I'm probably going to wait till it comes out on DVD, then get all 3 movies..

AzRaeL StoRmBlaDe 04-26-2002 08:40 PM

yeah its some sort of mummy spin off from what i heard.

lroyo 04-26-2002 09:50 PM

Hmmmm..I enjoyed The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, but I wasn't going to bother with this. But maybe I will after reading your reviews.

Grimslade 04-27-2002 08:19 AM

I thought it was an above average action flick, and I enjoyed it. There is barely any storyline in it at all- its all hack and slash, an aspect I found myself enjoying.

I think the Rock is an excellent actor in and out of the ring.

TheGrandSlayer 04-27-2002 03:29 PM

Hmmm,I wanna see SK!

I watched the making of the Scorpion King on HBO, and I must say, I have revised my opinion of the Rock. Not once while being asked questions did he refer in the "third person" (i HATE that) :D

and from what they showed, it looks like it should be good. The director said it wasn't a prelude to "The Mummy Returns", but a movie to let you know who the Scorpion King was.....

anyway, haven't seen it yet, but would like to :D

Trust us, unless you intensely hate action flicks, you will enjoy watching the Scorpion King. Nobody I know who has watched it so far, has given it a negative review.

I nearly went to see it the other day. It was either that or Blade II. I went to see Blade II instead, next time I will go see it.

dragonwolf 05-03-2002 05:07 PM

i saw blade II and that was awsom

the scorpion king on the other hand seemed to be beefed up by all the plublicity and trailers about it.the movie seemed to lack alot of stuff that we were promised.it never mintioned why he was called THE SCORPION KING and nothing about the vally and oath he made to the god for the victoryagenst his enemys.all i have to say is i hope there is a scorpion king 2

Sneeki Two 05-06-2002 01:59 AM

To me these movies are kinda hit or miss. It was entertaining but very predictable. By the end I was just ready for them to get over with. I thought Mummy was much the same, but I really enjoyed Mummy2.

All in all it made me want to watch Conan the Barbarian again (which I did when I got home). I think it just wasnt serious enough for me (Scorpian King that is). It was sanitized for a more family oriented rating, so it just didnt come off with that edge I expect from the genre.

Just my 2.

Larry_OHF 09-20-2002 10:35 PM
