Please, no plot spoilers, and don't even *think* of posting links to illegal downloads from the next film.

But what are your predictions for Star Wars Episode II? Will it be better than Episode I? Will Jar Jar be written out? Will it make more $$$ than LOTR and Harry Potter combined?

Sir Exxon 01-24-2002 10:19 AM

<font color="gold">ell, I am definetly looking forward to it, but I hardly doubt that it will match LotR, neither in 'viewers', or $$$.
But maybe it'll be more attractive then Harry Potter.</font>

see ya!

Well I heard Jar Jar is in it, at least he was spotted in the background in the trailer... I'm hoping he will stay in the background.
I'm excited about it but not like when I was waiting for episode 1 I had such high expectations for it that I was a little disapointed ... I've learned my lesson...

Yeah, I agree. Ep1 would have been a good film had it not been for the fact that we were all expecting miracles!
I too hope Jar Jar is relegated to the cutting room floor - he was even more annoying than the Ewoks....

Lord Killjoy 01-24-2002 12:13 PM

Supposedly with the negative response there was to Jar Jar Binks in the first one he will have a vary limited role in the Star Wars II. Hopefully that holds true. And why the heck would they take a good title like The clone wars and turn it into some 1950's B horror movie and call it "Attack of the clones". If George Lucas has any sense too him he'll find somebody else to write his movies. the onyl thing he seems to be good for is the money.

A very dissapointed Star Wars fan,
Lord Killjoy

I think, if the Ep I - III series follows the same cycle as eps IV - VI, then Ep I was the silly, almost stand-alone corny film, and ep II should be the cool, better-written, darker one of the trilogy. The way I see it, what have we got to lose? There's Natalie Portman, and Ewan MacGregor in a beard, and Christopher Lee again, and Ian MacDarmid, and no sign of Leonardo diCaprio as Anakin <hurray!>, all kinds of stuff.

Thoran 01-24-2002 07:48 PM

I read that the way it's going to work is that EP1 was the kids movie, written for people to take the family. EP2 will be a bit of a romance, but overall a movie with more of an adult theme... and EP3 will kick some serious butt.

Of course the guy that wrote that was probably guessing just as much as the rest of us... so who knows.

As far as money I don't think it'll make as much as either LOTR OR Harry Potter (Based on EP1)... both those movies were head and shoulders above EP1 in every respect, from Cinematics and special effects to Plot and storyline (did EP1 even have a storyline?)

The "Attack of the Clones" is definitely the worst title for a movie I was actually planning on going to see.

EP3 will probably be called "Return of the Clones"... or maybe "Bring in the Clones"

Na... they're already here.

Hey come on, is "The Empire Strikes Back" not a corny title? I don't really see how "Attack of the Clones" is so much worse. I am definitely looking forward to it, although I do prefer Ewan clean-shaven ;) . I liked Episode 1 a lot. I mean, a few bits weren't too good, like the pod race and Jar Jar, but it was no better or worse than any of the originals. It's funny actually, I mean the original trilogy were amazing in terms of concept and vision of the universe etc, but the acting, scripts etc weren't the most brilliant ever. So it was really unfair of us to expect the Episode 1 would be some earth-shatteringly great movie, although of course it's understandable.

In the trailer when amidala meets anakin, and he comes on to her, you can see Jarjar dressed up as a advisor.....

Jorath Calar 01-25-2002 06:59 AM

Here is what happened at a recent Lucasfilm meeting (reliable source)
-------------
George Lucas : well the schedule for todays meeting is we need to come up with a name for episode 2
Employee 1138: Hey how about Attack of the clones? (snicker from the other employees)
GL: Hey thats cool lets use that, next matter...
1138: But ehmm, I was kidding
GL: nah it's a cool title, we'll use it
-------------

I had a nightmare the other day that I finally went to see episode 2 and all it was was 2 hours of Jar Jar on a pogostick... I woke up screaming...

Gray Mage 01-25-2002 09:40 AM

"Attack of the clones" - Reminds me too much of that song "Send in the Clowns"

I think it will do great, but there may be one problem. It is slated to open up against Spiderman.

Spiderman looks to be a great movie, I wonder how they will each do.

Do you think Star Wars will not have such a large showing, because of the title, or will it be as big as the first?

Isnt it a bit too soon to be dissapointed? Just wait 'till after you see the movie.

Thoran 01-25-2002 11:05 AM

I dunno... "The Empire Strikes Back" just doesn't have the camp sound of "Attack of the Clones". Of course it was also the best movie of the lot to this point... so maybe this title won't seem so bad if the movie is strong enough to overcome it.

I'm still looking forward to it, but it's got some stiff competition this year for the hearts of sci-fi and fantasy buffs... the "same old same old" isn't going to cut the mustard.

The Spiderman trailer did look awesome... if that movie does well I expect to see "Justice League" within a year or two, which would kick butt.

Tarox 01-29-2002 04:08 PM

Attack of the Clones.....whoo

Saying that though Empire Strikes Back isnt exactly the best title in the world
Ive not looked into trailers or anything, I want to be totally suprised but Im assuming its following the Clone Wars..I guess a good title isn't high on the agenda and its gonna sell bucket loads whatever its called.
Won't outsell LOTR i guess but LOTR is new..Star Wars is onto its 5th film after 3 decades....gonna take a lot to beat total sales
Lets see how much LOTR sells towards the end......Im guessing is only 3 movies? Not read the book or seen the film, not fussed really
Give me a lightsabre and the force any day ! hehe

Jar Jar Binks ! After all the stuff about him , you think they would have totally not even considered giving it a part in any more films

All I know about the film is Samuel L Jackson has a purple lightsabre cos he asked for it

LennonCook 01-30-2002 01:43 AM

<font color="lightgreen"> Hey, whys everyone hate JarJar Binks ?? I absolutely LOVED him!!

Also, the scripts for all the movies were writen before A New Hope was released... (this from many reliabale sources BTW)... they released A New Hope first because it was a big adventure one.

So basically, JarJar wont simply be left out of the entire story... he will play a role if only in the first half hour or so. If he isnt in most of the plot, then he wont simply be left out... he will be writen out.

Im hoping that Darth Vader makes an appearance in this film... or at least that Anaking begins to turn to the Dark Side.</font>

Uncle George wrote the "outlines" of the story before ANH was released, the backstory (i.e the script) was written with that outline in mind right after Episode 1. GL always starts working on the script for the next one after finishing a new one.

And I hope Darth Vader won't make an apearance util the very end of Episode 3, it will be an awesome end of the movie

I think Samuel L Jackson is a brilliant actor - one of the best IMHO. And a purple lightsabre! - good idea, time to get a bit more adventurous if you ask me.

MagiK 01-30-2002 08:19 AM

Another question you might ask, is now that Episode 1 has been released on DVD, will Episode II follow suit? and when the HECKL will we be able to get DVD VErsions of the first three movies?? heheh Yeah Im anxious for the next episode, but Im not sure that it can match LotR or HP.

jabidas 01-30-2002 05:57 PM

After the The Phantom Menace im just not very interested any more, it was such a travesty. They should have just left things the way they were.

I don't think it would make much sense to make him appear at the end of Episode 3. Because He had been in power a while at the beginning of ANH. And have you seen any trailers in the Movies.

Jar Jar was pretty annoying, but I don't think that he was as bad as people think. No wait, he really was that bad, sorry for the lapse in judgement. Hopefully, now that Obi-Wan's master is gone, he'll off him(like he wanted to do in PM).

Well, there's quite a time gap between Eps 3 - 4... seems to be plenty of time for Darth to get good.

GokuZool 02-01-2002 07:08 AM

I hope that Ep. 2 is alot better than Ep. 1! The Phantom Menace was pretty disapointing compared with Ep. 4,5,6.

Lifetime 02-02-2002 12:49 AM

Actually, people DID expect miracles with LOTR, and Peter Jackson fulfilled it exactly to the very last detail, so now expectations are even higher. If Star Wars does fall behind LOTR, it'll probably be the end of a very, very long era..

Bahamut 02-03-2002 10:05 AM

Well I saw trailers of Natalie Portman kissing a guy in Ep II... I said, "wow". I am going to watch this second ep not only because of that, but it sure seems to be more mature than EpI... HOEPFULLY!!! I don't want to be disappointed since I am not really a Star Wars fan...

Larry_OHF 02-03-2002 10:13 PM

<font color=skyblue>I have seen the trailers, and I am more excited about it than I was for LotR...although LotR surprised me on how much I liked it. So, trailers don't always do the trick for selling the movie in the intended fashion.

I am sure it will do as good as it did for Episode 1.
Being better at the box office than LotR???
It may be a close call, but I am putting my money on LotR for maintaining #1 seller on the first weekend opened.</font>

Lavindathar 02-04-2002 02:14 PM

<font color="cyan">I cant wait, and IMPO I think that Episode 2 will do better than LOTR did, even though I loved LOTR when I saw it (Xmas Eve ...hehe)</font>
