Anyone read them? I picked them off a shelf, read a few pages of both of them and then replaced them, a little disappointed in the lack of similarity 'twixt game and book. What are they like?

Terrible is to nice a word! I read Baldurs Gate and it Sucked with a capital "S"!
They should have got Terry Brooks to write it. He'd have done a much better job.

Do the books follow the storyline of the games?

I have scanned them in the bookstore, with the thought of purchasing, but did not. I am collecting all FRA , though, so I will still have to get them, eventually. that is what it means to have the whole collection.

Not really. At least the first one didn't. It was so bad, I didn't bother to
buy anymore. Not really sure why they would publish another one. I think
it was just greed that made them publish the first one. They knew they'd get some
poor BG junkie like me, to buy it.

The second one didn't follow the storyline at all.... The only NPCs that show up are Minsc, Jaheira and Imoen. The main char's incredibly unlikable and dull, and there are these weird semi-porn scenes with Imoen. Yeeechth... Didn't read the first one.

I have read the first and I can safely put it as one of the worst books I have ever read,
and considering the second is written by the same man, I would not give it to my worst enemy let alone read it myself.
