Rather than make a new thread for every little question I have :D

Q1, The Vestmant of faith cloak has a +5/+5 damage protection upon it. So why is my low level character getting hit by kobalds and goblins? should it mean only weapons of +5 or greater hit me?

Q2. The ring with a bird image upon it found with the mummies on level 2, what is it 's purpose?

Q3. The slaves in cages in level 2, are there any ways of freeing them?

robertthebard 07-23-2006 10:42 PM

A1. It soaks five damage from anything up to a +5 weapon. They can still hit you, but you will shrug off the first 5 dmg on every hit.

A2. What is the name of the ring? That will help, with all the rehashing of icons done lately.

A3. I don't think you can rescue them, but you should be able to keep them alive.

T-D-C 07-23-2006 11:03 PM

No you can't free them because the bars are magical...yeah magical that will do it.

They do have some rather nifty boots near by that a certain half-orc misplaced.

<font color= “ffebcd “> No name It just describes a bird and cant be sold so I'm guessing it's a plot item. </font>

LOL, guess you've got the answers, then! I was about to answer q-1 and ask the same question about your 2nd question that are already done, so I'll just say, Keep 'em coming and enjoy the Undermountain! :D

wellard 07-24-2006 11:22 PM

q2. (with more info) The ring has a bird image soaring against a moonlight sky that is a family crecent. norwest corner of level 2. It cannot be sold "plot items can not be sold" ...Its purpose?
Note .. not the drow leaders ring!

q4. Search skills is for hidden doors, Is there a set level to find all secret doors in EfU, like "5 or 10" skill points?

q5. How often is the server set to reset? twice a day, more? and if so are the times random?

robertthebard 07-24-2006 11:30 PM

q4. It's adviseable to dump about 20 points in search, more, if it's a class skill, so that you can better find the doors. The higher the better, some DC's are pretty high, I think. There's supposed to be a secret door on lvl 12, but I have never found it, just a note that says it's there.

q5. The server is set to reload when empty, so it should reset any time the last player logs out.

I think that note relates to the portal to the alternate universe.

robertthebard 07-25-2006 01:44 AM

Not so sure, since that's where the note is. Not impossible, I suppose, considering how twisted Halaster is, but the note says it's by the center of lvl 12.

T-D-C 07-25-2006 08:23 AM

Ahh thats right. Maybe its an offshoot then from before level 13 was done.

Typical evil halaster.

robertthebard 07-25-2006 12:23 PM

You know, that would be the typical evil wizard trick. Hide the map to the secret room in the secret room.

wellard 07-28-2006 06:17 AM

Q6. Are there any gloves that improve your Attack bonus? If so where?

Q7. The losers upstairs in the Yawning portal, Caraludor and Rudash etc. Is there a quest or reason to kill them (apart from xp)?

robertthebard 07-28-2006 10:26 AM

Q6. Only if you are fighting unarmed. The attack bonus on gloves won't carry over to other weapons.

Q7. Supposed to be easier XP, I think.

Cloudbringer 07-28-2006 04:03 PM

Can I tack my question here? :D Hope so! I don't know if it's been moved of if my memory is verrrrrrrrrrrry clouded about this but where the heck is the crypt on the Haunted Isle? I get lost in the fog alot and haven't been there in ages. Have been on the Isle but only did the crypt once maybe twice and then it was with someone else who'd done it many times.

I went back today to find it and check it out but couldn't find the entrance to the crypt. I did however get stuck in the doorway to a building with no transition.. had to log off and back on to get free.

Zebodog 07-28-2006 06:22 PM

I thought it was just to the north of the dock, somewhere close to the cave entrance.

That's the great thing about the haunted isle...seems like stuff is never in the same place twice.

Ziroc 07-28-2006 06:53 PM

And don't forget the secret area in the crypt room..

wellard 07-28-2006 09:17 PM

The crypt is still there (or was a few days ago) Clouds, It is not marked on the map though :D

I had difficulty finding it again too.

Oh yeah, first time I went there I was hiding from the crypt monster while I buffed up, and I thought I might just check out that room first it can only be easier, maybe I can rest in there and relearn my spells. ....

Thats a shame, some builds like rougue and bards really need to boost there attack bonus abilities sometimes. A glove with say +5 ab and +10 parry would be good with out being to powerfull.

robertthebard 07-29-2006 09:55 AM

Use small weapons, and weapon finesse. Take advantage of the high dex needed for rogue builds, and useful for bards. If you are going to dual wield, take the appropriate feats. I have a rogue/assassin build that has almost as many attacks per round as a monk of appropriate level, and a decent ab as well.

Greything 07-29-2006 01:02 PM

Dex and weapon finesse is great. I'm still enjoying trying to make monk-based builds that way.

But down on level 12 is a set of Dwarven heavy armour that is by far the best in Undermountain. If you don't like your characters getiing kiled off more often than is good for your anger management techniques you could end up like me making builds that can use that armour without penalty.

Even massive AC does not give protection like the Dwarven armour's damage reduction.

Oh for some robes with huge damage reduction and the ambidexterity and two weapon fighting feats (bit of a hint there and I haven't even mentioned better maces).

Which is a rip off IMO (this is of course a NWN problem not the module) A rougue stacked with points in 'use magic device' should be able to get all the benifits

robertthebard 07-30-2006 10:09 PM

Fight unarmed...

I was just going the the Original Campaign (again ) and found the ring in Chapter 1. It was the ring for which Grimgnaw the monk henchman is searching.

Perhaps Ziroc has his own quest for this ring as it seems to be flagged as a plot item. :D

To borrow Wellard's question space, anyone aware of goodies I can use for immunity from sneak attacks? Can't be armour as it is for a non-armour-wearing char. Bit disappointed when I checked the Assassin Leathers and found they didn't give it, quite embarrassing for an assassin to be snuck up on...several times, lol.

Greything 09-02-2006 04:45 PM

This may be a spoiler.

Check out the Hamerfell merchant on one of the upstairs floors of Durnan's inn. There's a useful shield there.

There are also various versions of Pharun's armour (robes, light and heavy) which help. One of them can be bought on level 3 but the others are on 11 and 12.

Unglaublich Verwustung 09-02-2006 05:34 PM

I'll check them out, thanks for the tip

wellard 09-03-2006 11:07 PM

The spell true seeing protects against hidden characters which helps, but they can still flank you 'I think'. Can your char wear helmets? If so the helmet of Moander gives true seeing. A few hoods that rogues would wear giving true seing would be a nice addition to the game *hint*

Unglaublich Verwustung 09-04-2006 09:17 AM

always wondered what true seeing was for, better go get a hat even if it will play hell with my hair. Going to bill my hairdressing on to the lvl 12 bad guys, ;)

T-D-C 09-04-2006 07:06 PM

Also the Plate Skukll Helmet on 13 gives true seeing as well.

Im sure there is a hood with true seeing as well *racks brains to remember*

Nope not happening....

Unglaublich Verwustung 09-05-2006 08:16 AM

I've got several hoods in my pack, I'll actually find out what they're all for next time I'm in the Inn

wellard 09-08-2006 10:32 PM

*new question*

Catacombs, there is a wooden coffin in the middle surrounded by a fence, is there a way in? Is it worth getting in?

Garnet FalconDance 09-08-2006 10:59 PM

Seems like there used to be a way. <<shrugs>> Otherwise the catacombs are rather a useless waste of time altogether.

Thats a bit harsh Garnet :D They are still a good thing for new characters to explore, we need more low level areas IMO - maybe some small quests around waterdeep *hint to Z*
