The C: Drive is failing guys, so I am leaving the system OFF until I go out and buy a new Harddrive today or tomorrow. I don't think anything is hurt, It boot and works, it just freezes after a few hours and you hear the drive squeek.

I'll See if Bestbuy is open today. But for most of today, and MAYBE tomorrow, EFU is down.

PS: The patch is ok too-- I moved all those files to my server. just incase...

Well, still doing fine.. no lockups.. SO I will put up the EFU Server for now.

I'll keep ya updated!

ouch.
how big is the current drive you have going there and whom is it made by? (the one where you have the module situated.)
oh, and are you still within warranty?

Greything 07-04-2006 09:57 AM

Gulp.

May have to find something something else to do in the evenings for a while then.

Is that what happened last night? It crashed on us about 11 or so last night (east coast time).

Ziroc 07-05-2006 06:15 PM

All is well. The ribbon was bad. I need to change over to sata drives... nice, small wires..

Anyway, I have like 20 billion IDE ribbons, so no prob! thank tymora.

Sounds like my good friend, Crazy. He even has SCSI drives from back when we first met (1994) that still work. Seriously, if there's a computer part that exists that was any good, he probably has it, had it, or is getting it, or has heard of it and has thought of acquiring it. What can I say? If it wasn't for his knowledge and genius, I wouldn't even be online here to be honest with you.

So, how are the S-ATA drives doing? I was thinking of moving to those soon enough, actually. More than likely when I purchase a new HDD (160+ GB), it'll be using the S-ATA stuff. I may even try to simply move everything over to the S-ATA drive off the bat and then reformat the drive I have now a few times before placing it into yet another computer. I was thinking of having a "regular" machine going and a "gaming" machine for the first time ever. Greedy, I know, but as my computing desires have changed ever so slightly, I may want to have that "extra" machine around just in case of graphic and terminal failure.

Extra computers are overrated...they make you have to have other places set up to have them set up, and you run out of room in the house...

And heat the room like crazy.

I have nearly all my old PC parts.. an old Pentium 60 (the first Pentium) and a 166Mhz system (was badass then, with 128mb ram!)

I even keep the original boxes-- I have the original Sound blaster v1.0 card and box--works and the box is perfect looking.. lol! prolly worth something now! HAHAH!

I have like 10 hard drives--old, and most have bad sectors, or are like 60mb - 800mb.. But most are bootable, but fail or lock/click when they get warmed up.. I know.. I should chuck em...

Is it me or are your drives always failing, lol? It seems almost a yearly thing that I see you post it somewhere that xxx drive failed.

robertthebard 07-06-2006 10:33 AM

It's hard though...I have several computers in parts/pieces, and a couple of complete towers. I have two 486 models sitting in the closet, not sure what for, but...I've got one pop out cd rom that's kinda cool, but it's way slower than what I need for this rig. However, if I ever do get into the position to build my own, I won't have to invest in a lot of the parts, got a cd/dvd rom that writes cd's, a cd rom that writes, and a ton of floppy drives. I've got a 40 gig harddrive that's serving as a back up, more or less. It's not connected to the computer. When I took the new one out of the box, and got all the files transferred, I put the old in the box the new one came in. If I crash the new one, I'll have the spare.

All that heat's great if it's winter up my way .....but not so great in Florida, I imagine! :D

We've got a few bits and pieces lying around in the basement and my study, but for the most part I got hubby to toss or give away things we don't expect to need or use in future. I think we probably have some of those ribbon cables floating about the house, though!

Glad it's fixed, Z! We had some fun in the Undermountain over the holiday! And I got to give Choc his catnip...I love that!
