I saw a post from Mozenrathe asking about bastard swords.
Rather than risk the wrath of the moderators - especially after today's rugby game - I thought I had better open a new thread to reply. The best I have seen is an acid bastard sword +9 on level 13. Be careful, it is well defended. it is also difficult to spot. |
Is that one of the swords that drops from the Proving Grounds ?
Its been a while since I have been down there. |
This one is in the pit.
I don't think that's a spoiler as it is difficult to find. And anyone going in there will be distracted by some serious assaults. |
Ahhh yeah I know the one you are talking about now.
Though their is a spell that makes getting in and out of that area pretty easy. Hint: There is also an amulet some where on Level 13 that has this spell on it. |
I have tried to build and tweak better and better tanks to cope with the pit.
Now there is an easy way! Still, suffering is supposed to make you stronger - not that I've ever been convinced about that. |
There has always been an easy way. Z cought me doing it once so Im not sure if you can still do it but its worth a shot and makes doing the associated quest pretty easy.
|
Pit? What pit is this? And to define: what would a claymore be under, anyway? *working on Samurai Jack's erstwhile ally build as well, more than likely Fighter/Weaponmaster strength-based.*
|
The Pit is behind the tower on Level 13.
Down towards the lower right hand corner of the map. |
so I am going to assume that is isn't the Void Plane, but some place else? I may need two windows open in order to find it. As it seems I will never be able to create a character that specializes in the maul or the falchion (no matter how COOL!!! those weapons look), I should work with the weapon types I can to start with and expand from there. Perhaps a few unconventional character types should be using the "new and unlisted" weapons... Oh well, I will have to write out a list of my current characters being used on the server and start from there. Perhaps even start saving them to my own computer with all that cool equipment and then run through the Diablo module I have here...
|
its a bit further south from the void plane.
In front of it is a tower with a Drow Chick there who gives you a quest. |
found it.
everyone there killed me repeatedly. I had no chance whatsoever. then again, that was with my (then) thirteenth level straight barbarian. now she's seventeenth level, so we shall see if I fare any better this time around. especially as I have two +8 weapons to go at those bastiches with. (RuneHammer, Hammerfeld's Firey HandAxe). makes me want to create a minotaur character, JUST so I can walk around with two Halberds and lay down some serious smackage. *sighs* |
Re: Bastard Swords
This seems to now be a falchion, or have I missed it? I'm considering a bastard sword weapon master but I'd like to know that there are some bastards swords which aren't totally outclassed by the many double digit bonus longswords.
|
Re: Bastard Swords
The short answer is No.
The bastard swords on offer are +9 or +10. But they are fun. Blade of the Gods, Brandmark, etc will extend your graphics. I'm still trying to work out a Chaotic Evil build to use a bastard sword I picked up in the Christmas gift rush. |
Re: Bastard Swords
I created Bram the Bastard, a bastard sword wielding weapon master. Someone clued me in to the acid bastard sword I missed in the pit, it's very nice, but not nearly as much fun as Blade of the Gods; also, the pit sword has the exact same properties as Deathbringer, meaning that despite the name it does no acid damage. I've heard there is one under water but I haven't recovered it yet.
I will add Brandmark and the +10 sword to my list of items to locate. I'll be on tonight if anyone wants to help. :group2: |
Re: Bastard Swords
Aha! Now I have found an actual bastard acid sword and, of course, Brandmark which *is* as much fun as Blade of the Gods. I had thought I might regret not specializing in longsword but I really like these bastards. :) Have any clues about the nature or location of the +10?

Re: Bastard Swords
It was a good weekend-- the top three I now have are:
I have a few others, some I picked up, some were given to me including Deathbringer (Brandmaker lite), several acid blades (some are misnomers), and one only usable by chaotic evil which is +9 or +10. As I have benefited from others' generosity, so too have I begun to collect good gear for new characters/players, but I also compiled a complete list of where Vigo's (rogue) item's can be found and have begun to do this for other kinds of items, partly because a few forum posts seem to yen for such a thing. |
Re: Bastard Swords
Others are:
The last two are the only true acid swords I have seen, I don't seem to have kept the (two, I think) misnamed acid swords but I believe they had the same properties as Deathbringer. One is that "well guarded" blade on 13. As far as I know that accounts for all the high bonus bastards in EfU, not the best AB but anyone familiar with Blade of the Gods will know why I call it "crowd pleaser" and in the hands of a weapon master I think Brandmaker can best even that +13 ice-thingy on L15. Longsword wielders need the extra help :P |
