Big oops there on my entrants, Anah is correct, but I was entering Davis Lantian IW as my second. I've posted it here, let me know if I need to do anything else. I'm checking the time now, and getting the bracket.
Edit: OK, it's listed correctly on the bracket. As for the time, it's 6:00 in the afternoon here, which should probably be ok. [ 06-30-2005, 06:08 PM: Message edited by: robertthebard ] |
Sorry my bad, I posted an old list. The bracket should be right.
EDIT: Fixed [ 06-28-2005, 07:21 AM: Message edited by: T-D-C ] |
Hope to see everyone there.
Banned items I can live with but the 1.66 patch has changed the balance. Implosion (and to some extent Wail of the Basnhee and Phantasmal Killer) now hit the fighter based characters some of us have built. Thanks again to T-D-C and robertthebard for pointing out that I should have read the small print in that patch. Any chance of banning these spells? I'm sure the spellcasters are confident enough to live (or not) without them. |
Unfortunatly we can't ban those spells as they wern't broken by the patch they are now working as intended.
Wail of the Banchee still gives you a fortitude save (IIRC) so fighters should be fine for that. If we banned those spells then we would have to ban dev crit as well. I think for this 1st (hopefully of many) tournament we will leave the rules and just ban items. The next tournament we may look into changing some spells if it turns outt o be to unbalanced. |
High saves will help you survive death spells, as will immunity to death magic. (But I dunno if implosion is covered under that)
But no matter how high your saves are, if you roll a 1, you fail the save anyways XD, so there's always that 5% chance it'll work regardless. [ 06-28-2005, 09:58 PM: Message edited by: Neo the Warrior Cat ] |
Immunity to death magic does not save you from implosion.
|
Implosion allows for spell resistance and a fortitude save. Weird and Phantasmal Killer also bypass immunity to death magic now, allow spell resistance, and -two- saves.
On the same note, Flesh to Stone has bypassed the immunity for ages, allowing a save and spell resistance also. |
Weird and Phantasmal Killer allow for a Will save and a fort save IIRC.
Immunity to death magic only protects from spells classed as death spells. |
Is ring of harm banned as in you're not allowed to use it or not allowed to wear it? It does provide a useful +4 fortitude bonus when worn.
I would rather it started earlier than midnight for me but I can still make it. If the image is too small for anyone else to see then just hit refresh. Some of the DCs for dev crit are pretty scary, I'll just have to hope I'm lucky with my wizard since I won't be able to get the saves higher than about 38. (there is a +20 cap from items and spells) |
TDC -
Which of these zones is Australian Eastern Time? Australia Australian Capital Territory Broken Hill Lord Howe Island New South Wales Northern Territory Queensland South Australia Tasmania Victoria Western Australia Or more to the point, would either Xiphias or Pritchke be open to a later night Friday night match US CST? Not trying to be difficult here, but with a wife and baby around I try to keep the gaming to off hours if possible. |

Pritchke - I think you're the same time zone as me or at least close. My guy's at 40 already, so I'm good to go whatever night would work for you. I have a feeling the match will be fairly quick (not neccessarily in my favor).
|
How much later? the current start time is already midnight for me.
|
Can we watch this if we are not in? It would be interesting to watch.
|
I think watching should be possible, yes. And since there's not enough boasting and bragging and taunting going in these past few days:
I was hoping for a challenging pair of first rounds :D But, considering the rest of the line-up, I suppose I actually did get to face the only opposition which might survive just the first ten seconds in one of the two rounds at least Rob and Chewie, you may now withdraw without loss of face or honour. TDC, feel free to crown me champion already  |

If you need me to move the time forward I can accomodate that. [ 06-29-2005, 07:38 PM: Message edited by: T-D-C ] |

Chara Telure. Hmm, that sounds like someone likely to use disarm, I hope she appreciates Vandervecken's 87 discipline. [/taunt][/cunning plan][/;)] Edit: Watchers would be good but you would have to deal with missile storms targeting them rather than the intended target. Give them all permenent greater sanctury until the match is over maybe. [ 06-29-2005, 08:07 PM: Message edited by: Xiphias ] |
Hmmm I know he has one cleric in his bag of tricks so I'm expecting some implosions and other sneaky cleric tricks.
Chara is a sorceress BTW. |
I was going to say even better but then I remembered bigby's don't use discipline checks by default :\. I'd better memorise a couple of maximised endurance spells to better resist those nasty, nasty IGMSs.
|
Or do as I may be doing and bring my Monk with Maxed out spell resistance :)
BTW I am also thinking about adding a time limit of 10 minutes to all fights. If the time is reached the character with the most health wins. |
That may be a good idea. There is likely to be a lot of whiffing going on...Or worse, anything with less than 10 dmg, due to reductions...Spell Resistance is your friend...As to the banning of spells, I agree wholeheartedly, bring em on...I've stood through a lot of em lately, even though implosion still freaks me out. Piece of advice to non spell casters, as I won't be running any, so it matters not to me, if an implosion starts, leave the area of effect. That usually works.
Oh, and yes, the taunting has been quiet lately, I no longer feel the need to taunt, I have seen my destiny, and it is me, fighting myself for the championship... |
The only way you will be fighting in the final my friend is if I put yout head on the end of my sword while I kill whoever else manages to get there without crossing my path.

Sweet brackets!
I can't play that early but I can play 3 hours later that day (which is Fri july 8th here in Boston) starting 10 PM EST until 4-5 AM EST. The following day (Sat July 9th) I can start earlier, say between 3-6 EST. I am always flexible on all day/ all night on Mondays, like Monday the 11th, if a short delay is needed. |
Well if we need to we can move your fights back a bit. Get everything out of the way.
What do you think ? |
They're not uber characters as I've pointed out elsewhere. That is to say, I know of ways to make them worse. Just about any other server in the rp section would definately count them and any other high level EfU characters as uber though, that's true enough.
I doubt Implosion will be of use. Not against Anah in any case, as this Cleric/CoT's fortitude spell DC is probably low enough for fighters to overcome. No, I thought I'd just go melee. I'm not sure why I picked CoT by the way. As for Chara, I'll apologise for any uninspired tactics I might happen to have to use in advance; the 34 Sorceress' choice of spells is limited as ever. But there's no pally or monk levels there. I mean come on. Who needs that? Anyway, on the spectators. They won't be targeted by missile storms if they're not hostile to the caster. They might get caught in some Area of Effect spells, but it's not like they can't respawn on the spot. |
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCMENT:
Leanna Bella has been replaced. Her spot will now be taken by........... Fizban!!!!!! |
I have the same problem as some others.
The Tournament starts at midnight on Friday for me. While I don't have to work on the Saturday morning others in my family do. I'd be happy to play the first round matches at any time we could arrange (I see I've drawn T-D-C and Zebodog) before the official start of the tounament. If (big if) I survive then I could join in the second round at about 17hrs Eastern Australian time. Would this upset the timetable too much? |
As to that, now that we have the official brackets, would it really matter when we actually have the bouts? If both players are in game, and willing to *do the deed*, then why not? I would not be adverse to that.

I have the same problem as others.
If I calculate the times properly, the tournament starts at Friday midnight my time. While I don't have to go to work on the Saturday morning others in my family do and I don't want to disturb them. I'd be happy to arrange the first round fights at any convenient time between now and when the first round officially starts (I see I'm drawn against T-D-C and Zebodog). If (and it's a big if) I survive I would be available for second round from around 17hrs Eastern Australia time. Would this mess the timetable around too much? |
Sorry about the second almost identical post. Please ignore.
I didn't think the first post had gone through. Problem is at my end I think, with a suddenly very slow cable connection. |
@Chewbacca and Marathon
Would it be possible to do our matches at an earlier time on a different day? I can probably make it if not though. p.s. is it possible to send private messages to multiple people, using the button on a post seems to fix it to just one person and I couldn't find a new private message button. |
Xiphias
Entirely possible. I just found out we have company coming that weekend, so the earlier the better. This may be a tactical mistake on my part as either of the characters you'll face are under 40 (had planned on leveling them up, but haven't had the time), but I'll take my chances. Same offer goes out to Pritchke. I'm US Central Time, and prefer to do the matches late at night. 10pm - 2am works best for me. Let me know what works for you. |
If you want to organise the matches in your own time then thats great wit me.
Just capture a screenshot of the victory and send me a quick playby pplay |
Hi T-D-C.
Don't know whether it's best to organise things throgh this string or not. Seems Timur meets Miramar Drake. 9 hrs difference so I guess your late night and my morning or your morning and my evening. Give me enough notice to open Timur's cage in time for his sedation to wear off. |
So, are you allowing a studio audience? :D
To stay out of the way of the combatants and AoE spells I'll bring a greater sanctuary scroll, ring of elemental resistance and a large bag of popcorn |
If everyone wants to organise their times via PM and let me know what times their matches are on it will be great. As long as they occure on that day we can maybe have the next round the next day or if it all goes smoothly on the same day.

Apologies to T-D-C and everyone else involved but I'm going to have to miss the official tournament.
Family business means I'm off line from tomorrow morning until Sunday June 10th. Seems I'll have to concede my two first round matches and give T-D-C and Zeebodog a Bye into round two. When I do get back I'll be happy to try a pvp with anyone who entered, just to see how things would have turned out. |
