Hi Guys,
Just thought I would post this here as I was so sick of having to navigate all the menus in NWN to get to log into Undermountain (where I spend most of my time) All you need to do it this 1) Create a New NWN Shortcut. 2)Rename it to Escape from Undermountain 3)Right Click on the new shortcut and go to properties 4)In the target field type in the following C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121 (Note this may change depending on where your nwmain.exe file is or where you installed NWN) 5)Click ok 6)Now all you need to do to log into undermountain is doubleclick on this new icon ENJOY! |
Thanks but I thought this was how everybody logged on now I've been doing it this way for awhile. For those that didn't know how to do this I will thank you T-D-C for posting it I never thought to.
I join the form in much the same way but I use the one click way. |
Woah! Cool! Thanks!
Um...I am doing something wrong. It says it is invalid. It was already targeted to the first part of your string, but the second part where you add the "+ connect...etc. will not be accepted. [ 07-25-2004, 06:36 PM: Message edited by: Larry_OHF ] |
Wow T-D-C, that is an awsome Tip!! Thanks for posting that, will definetly cut some time off logging in!

It is not working still.
Here is a direct copy of what I have and what I changed it to, including the quotation marks that the system automatically had in it. "D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwn.exe" then changed to... "D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwn.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121" |

Change the NWN.exe to NWMAIN.exe and it should work. Cheers! T-D-C |
Like this???
D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwmain.exe+connect 24.173.154.114:5121 No, it still does not work. It says that it does not like the name "NeverWinter"...but that is the name of the file where the game's info is held. |

Should work after that. |
Man that is strange. can you please copy and paste the shortcut target in here.
It should look like this. C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121 can you also post your original NWN shortcut target as well. Maybe that will help us figure this out. |

After, with the space: "D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwmain.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121" After, without the space: "D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwmain.exe+connect 24.173.154.114:5121" |
Hmm the only difference I can see is the folder path.
Do a search for Nwmain.exe and see what it turns up. Check which folder its in and paste that in. You could try making yours look like this and see if that works D:\NeverWinter Nights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121 Keep me posted! |
This works for me....
C:\NeverwinterNights\Nwmain.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121 Make sure you enter it in TARGET too Larry. |
Duz it matter? We all get there in the end.
|
But its the journey that's important. Plus this way is quicker and doens't put you thorugh a whole heap of screens that you have to click.
|
It's not happening for me. I copied exactly what you guys suggested and it is a no-go. Screw it.
|
That is really strange that it is not working. ohh well sorry we couldn't get it working for you Larry.
See you in Undermountain! |
LARRY It won't work if you don't have it loaded in "C" drive.
|
Actaully TCB you can load games onto other Partitions.
I've done it with a couple of other games. |
T-D-C are you useing windows 98se or windows XP?
Partitions are one thing and different drives are another. I have and run two 200GB Hard-drives on my computer. Drive C is 200GB and D,E,F,G,& H are all on my second 200GB Hard drive. When I had NWN loaded on drive 2 D. I couldn't use the short cut Because of the Fire wall that windows XP has between the two drives. so I moved it to C in order to use that short cut. That may be what larry is having trouble with. I asked some people at bioware about it and this was their explaination. As far as loading games on other Partitions I have almost 250 games loaded on this computer and they are on every partition I have But, only my main C drive can be used for Hosting games. |
Yeah Im using XP, and I have my game on the C Drive.
If Larry is using XP and has his game on the D drive then that could be causing his problem. |
I do have my game saved on the D drive, but drive D is partition, as I only have one hard drive currently.
Now, I have hosted games from drive D before, with no trouble. So what you are saying is that if my game were on a second HDD, I could not host games? Is that firewall of XP able to turn off? I have Zone Alarm, so I do not need XP firewall, right? |
The Win XP firewall is Off by default and if its only a partition then you shouldn't be having the problems that you were having with the shortcut.
|
<took me 3 days to get registered here so I could tell you what your problem is, Larry_OHF>
The problem is in the command line. You put the quotes in the wrong place. Your command line is: "D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwn.exe +connect 24.173.154.114:5121" The reason you have quotes is because you are using long file names (directory names) and you have a space in the name. The command line options should not be inside of the quotes. Change your line to this: "D:\NeverWinter Nights\nwn.exe" +connect 24.173.154.114:5121 And it should work just fine. Note, if you're having trouble seeing the difference, the second set of quotes is immediately after the nwn.exe and all the command line stuff is outside of the quotes. Again, the only reason this is necessary is because your path has a space in the name. I hope this helps. |
Wedge, you win the title of Hero of the Day!
What you suggested worked!!!!!!!!!!! |
Glad to hear it.
|
Thanks for that Wedge I was ripping my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong. Didn't even think that it was the quotes and long file names.
Welcome to Undermountin and hope to see you in the mod one day! WELCOME TO IRONWORKS |
I hope to be online tonight, actually (I'm a west coast guy). Taking my family out of town this weekend, and I may have some honey-do things to get done prior. But we shall see.
I've been a huge Undermountain fan since the boxed sets came out many years ago. When I found this PW here at Ironworks, I went out and bought both expansions (been playing around with DAoC and other such games for awhile) and reinstalled NWN. I also enjoy mapping and module writing (PnP modules, and mapping for games such as TFC and old-school Doom), so I'm eager to get my hands dirty there, too. My only regret is that I was seriously addicted to DAoC when NWN came out, so I chose to ignore it for the most part. I've missed out on a lot of fun. The community is looking very strong for this game. |
Yeah the community is VERY strong for NWN. Make sure you download the CEP as well or you won't be able to get into Undermountain. There is a sticky post at the top of the forum with all the things you will need to get to log into Undermountain.
Feel free to give me a yell if you see me online. I'm Joric Of Ironworks. |
