While browzing the Bioware forums, I found this discussion about gaining full experience in the Neverwinter Nights Original Campaign.

Apparently Bioware set the experience level in the OC to only 10% of what you would get in a PnP game. This was done to offset the amount of Hack-and-Slash you get in a computer game vs. PnP.

I tried the simpler method: copy the official Chapters to the /mod directory; backup the official Chapters (just in case ) ; rename the copied chapters with the .mod suffix; open each copied chapter in the toolbox and set the experience slider to 100% (200% for the Prelude- my fighter was third level leaving the Graduation Hall ) .

The modules scale the encounter for your level: instead of just battling Zombies in the Begger's Nest I am fighting Zombie Warriors and Ghoul Lords.

I hope you have fun with this; I know I am .

Cool. Might have to try it, if I ever get burnt out on playing online.

I can't seem to find the Startnewmodule line in Aribeth's conversation in Chapter 1!!!! Any help?

I found this in the original thread on the Bioware forums:

Quote:

Blue Emu:

Some of the Module transitions (the StartNewModule(); commands) are cunningly hidden.

The Chapter 1 => Chapter 1E transition is in the "500 gold? That's outrageous!" branch of Aribeth's conversation, for instance... not in the "4th ingredient" branch.
Personally, I just backed up the original files and replaced them with the edited chapters, like Javan. Having quite a bit of fun so far. The Beggar's Nest at level 11 with the Zombie Warriors and Ghoul Lords is actually a bit harder than normal, at level 6/7 or so with those puny Weak Zombies.

Oh ye gods, I'm going to have to do this...

after I actually play it vanilla. :D No sense doing all this without going through it as-is first XD

Solved...i'm now level 7 and have just killed the Intellect Devourer. It gave me 5000 something exp...this is at 100%

And with my insatiable curiosity piqued, I'm gonna do it, and just remake my character in progress :D

I'd like to have a go at the 100% game, if only I hadn't recently finished the OC!!

Nightowl2 07-23-2005 08:52 PM

Just finished the OC with 100% experience. Wow, really added a new dimension to the game! My guy came in at L25 at the finale. Nice change from the puny L16.

If you have the toolset, I recommend ramping the exp up to 100% and playing through. Best bet is to create your character in Chewie's mod, bring it up to L3, and go straight into chapter 1.

Of course, not much fun having about 15 or so Mohrgs spawn in the Helm's Hold courtyard (undead.... the bane of all that is rougeish)

shadowolf03 07-25-2005 01:24 AM

Hmm....having a billion thugs surround you then getting ambushed by cult assassins is fairly tough at level 9....i imported some handy weapons into the hacked chapter however...hehehe

I must say that towards the end things started to become rather easy for my fighter/dwarven defender/weapon master. Being able to go toe to toe with a dragon without any preparation beforehand, and even then lose no more than about 1/4 of your total hit points throughout the fight tends to take the challenge out of the game.

Nightowl2 07-25-2005 10:21 AM

That's probably the most potent combination available. You could always ramp up the difficulty a bit if you find it's becoming too easy.

I find it just right, though, for my F/R/WM.

I don't think it's really a matter of class. Somehow I doubt that any character of level 20+ could have any real trouble with anything the OC can throw at it. Sure, from some encounters my Dwarf did barely escape with his life, but from chapter three on, there was nothing which required my to utilize any tactics other than the tried and true "get in there and whack 'em with a warhammer until they stop fighting back". Not that there are a lot of other options for such a melee-oriented character of course, but still. The times, throughout the entire game, that I had to use Defensive Stance and/or Ki Damage can be counted on one hand even if you've lost three fingers there.

And I did ramp up the difficulty, BTW.

There is the matter of Rouge vs. Death Magic.

Blasted Bodaks *shakes fist at them*

stupid sucky will saves ;_;

Strong soul feat at first level helps a fair bit with thouse.

Finally=)!!!! I`ve been trying to raise the experince points gained in the game by modyfy the OC with the toolset.. but could never figure out what to change, cause i only got errors... but thanks to you Javan,i finally can have more fun in the game=)... i can`t try this out right know butthe only thing i need to do is to rename the chapters to: mod suffix?? or should i add something more?? ...and do you or anyone else know how to raise the level cap?? something i need to download or is it not possible???... thanks?=)

Nightowl2 07-27-2005 09:12 PM

Copy the files to the module dir and rename them to .mod so you can edit them. Then rename them back to .nwm and copy them back to the nwm directory.

Dunno about breaking level 40. That would really be overkill, especially as you're not likely to reach even L30 with the upped experience.
