I'm wondering what kind of items you all ave found yourself wishing you had in the game. Not the items that are IN the game, mind you. For example, I've been wanting what I call a Helm of Drinking. You know, a helmet with cupholders on both sides for all those potions you always want to have at the ready...

InsaneBane 01-21-2004 11:04 AM

I wish there were a 'kobold repellent spray potion' that could keep those annoying 'bugs' out of sight.

CHIME OF OPENING! CHIME OF OPENING! CHIME OF OPENIIIIIIING!
Really, in every single game in the series, it's not easy soloing... Some locks you just can't open. It drives me mad!
I realize there are Chimes of Opening out there, and I've actually made a crude one myself using IEEP, but I'm not using it for my current solo quest. I would KILL for a Chime of Opening.
I realize this isn't following the spirit of this thread, but I *REALLY* had to get that off my chest.

Oh, and Ilander? Read the Epic Level Handbook... They've done something similar.

I could use a bag of holding and other containers... also one container for wands

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-21-2004 03:28 PM

That's why I love BG2 (And doesn't the expansion for IWD 1 have some too?) Scroll cases, gem bags, a bag of holding.. Then in ToB you get an ammo belt and potion cases. But I concur, something they haven't done is a wand case. That would be handy, but a bag of holding would render it moot, I suppose.
But I digress. As usual.
Containers would be a WELCOME addition to that game. It would make things so much easier.

Actually, they did. You can find it in Shadowkeeper, under the name "Web Sack." Why the heck they called it that, and why they never implemented it, however, are beyond me.

What I'd most like to have in BG1: A Girdle of Regeneration. It can also be used for emergency healing during a battle, but at a cost: Using its one-charge-per-day Item Ability heals you of 30 hitpoints, but nullifies its ability to Regenerate the wearer (1 hp/round) for the rest of the day.

RoSs_bg2_rox 01-21-2004 03:45 PM

My wished for item is not an item. It is the tab button. I wish that it would be like ToB and bgt where you could just press tab and find everything, its much quicker!

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-21-2004 05:34 PM

THAT'S what the Web Sack does? It looks LIKE a wand!
I assumed it was a Wand of Web or something like that, that was given to an enemy and you never see it. How very fascinating...

Dron_Cah 01-21-2004 05:42 PM

I believe Veric Cah is using that helm right now, Ilander. ;)

InsaneBane 01-22-2004 04:19 AM

Pom pom pom (singing)
I got 500 arrows in a slot,
Necklaces and rings, I can carry a lot.
Potions - no problem stack them and drink
more than 20 in a slot I think.

Unfinished Business Item Restorations restores this item, actually. I don't know where you'd get it in the game, though.

Ilander 01-28-2004 08:45 AM

How about the mechanized suit of armor, so that characters with extremely low strength can still wear full plate?

C'mon guys, not stuff you can just put in with shadowkeeper, or that other stuff (I don't know, I don't do too much of that).

Lord 01-28-2004 02:37 PM

Well, I'd like to see a complete set of Balduran's equipment. In BG2, you've got his sword (also in ToTSC), his plate, his cloak (also in BG1), his shield, and his helmet. There's no ring, boot, girdle, gauntlet, or amulet. So I just started creating these things using IEEP.

The Ring of Balduran gives +2 AC bonus and +5% magic resistance.
The Boots of Balduran increases movement rate like the boots of speed but it also gives +1 to dexterity and -1 to Constitution (it can't be healthy to run around that fast that much ).
Balduran's Belt gives +1 to AC, +5% MR, and +1 AC against all piercing weapons.
Balduran's Gauntlets increase Strength by 1 (to counter off the shield) and give an extra attack per round.
Balduran's Amulet gives you 5 HP to your max and +1 to your AC.

All these items can only be used by fighters, and that doesn't include dualed or multi-classed fighters.

Illumina Drathiran'ar 01-28-2004 03:34 PM

Don't forget his butter knife!

Edit- I still say you should be able to use that as a +6 dagger against jellies, with a chance to spread 'em, killing them instantly. I HATE jellies and oozes. SO much... Flames.. It, the flames, flames. Flames... On the side of my face... Breathing.. Breath, heaving breath. Heaving.. breath..

I had to reduce some of the stats, mainly AC bonuses. My AC went below -20, so I had to change stats on all of the Balduran stuff to get it back down to my original -14. It's a cool set of equipment though :D .

Taran 02-21-2004 09:23 PM

utterly wished for items? hmmmmm........

sword of arse kicking +999999999129381293812983

Ilander 02-21-2004 11:01 PM

Nice...does that come in Warhammers too?

Golly... Ummm, on a different level of thought...I wish the game had an Arquebus...AD&D had those! Just put sling bullets into it, and you're fine!

Taran 02-22-2004 08:16 AM

speaking of.....

what is the point of warhammers?? i never use them bevcause they seem really bad and really stupid

RoSs_bg2_rox 02-22-2004 08:20 AM

warhammers are ace! My favourite weapon in bg1 is the warhammer +2 +1electrical! Its nice!

And whats the point in them, well whats the point in any weapon? To kill

Taran 02-22-2004 11:11 AM

no, but there really weak and really slow

Ilander 02-22-2004 11:25 AM

Not REALLY slow, Taran...that's the domain of the crossbow! Plus, magical weapons gain more than just damage and to hit bonuses...they also get lower speed ratings...so in original D&D, the things got more attacks per round...

IIRC, Ashideena (sp?) has a speed rating of 3, and that's pretty fast! Oh, and, I dunno if ya'll know what an Arquebus is, so...it's more or less the kind of guns that people had in the year 1500...a cross between cannon's and rifles...google it as "harquebus" for more info...They would have been a great addition to BG 1 or 2...And would have even made sense storyline wise, especially for paladins and clerics of that one temple of inventors...sorry, it slips the mind right now....

Illumina Drathiran'ar 02-22-2004 06:38 PM

Gond.

That would make sense, since the followers of Gond are credited with bringing Smokepowder to the Realms... But that kind of weapon seems more than a bit out of place in a game like BG. I don't even use Smokepowder in my pnp campaigns, simply because I feel it sort of spoils the magic of having blades and bows.

In BG2, you need blunt weapons like warhammers to kill certain golems (like clay golems). Also, there are some nice warhammers in the game, like the one that you can get from Basillus as Ross pointed out.

I take it you don't like them jellies, eh, Madeline? ;)

I'd love to have a Gem of True Roleplaying, myself. Methinks Furret sells a powergaming crystal. :D

Arledrian 02-23-2004 12:39 AM

There are several things I wish I could change about this game, but none are item-specific. I wish I could play BG in a higher screen resolution. I wish I could stack more than 20 arrows in one pile. And finally, I wish NPCs would walk more 'intelligently' - Shandalar's Island and the Firewine Ruins are just the pits in this respect.

Portable containers.

e.g. Potion bag.
