Do the Age And Diety Fields at character creation make a difference???

Dragonshadow 04-29-2003 02:37 PM

I don't think so...

SpiritWarrior 04-29-2003 06:51 PM

Nah they don't.

Jeffi0 04-29-2003 09:15 PM

They are probably stuck in there for multiplayer PW purposes. Though how to see someone's age on the PW, or their diety, is beyond me. :\

I play an online module that requires each character to have a diety. When a character is dieing, they have a 5% chance of being revived by their god. If you don't have a god, well, you have 0% :D

I first read the thread title as "Do Age/Diet Make A Difference?"...

I don't think diet makes a difference either...
:D
I never give my characters dieties, as I don't know any.

Astina_the_Moon_Elf 04-30-2003 11:23 AM

Well, diet could if you want to try and keep your figure Otherwise, if they go by 3rd edition rules, they would. But I don't think that many people play chars. that old...

Bahamut 04-30-2003 12:45 PM

well, i create my own deity... or do you guys do the same? :D

i find it fun... but if no value it is to the game, then why bother?

SpiritWarrior 04-30-2003 02:14 PM

Yah the only way to have a Deity is to create your own. Any script that uses it only makes use of the name you stuck in the 'Deity' field...nothing more really.

I got a praying statue that makes use of it but really, anything you put in there would work. ("You pray to your God, The Colossul Sandwich").

Age, diety and subrace for that matter don't make any difference in the OC. You can, however, use these in your own module to trigger 'special' occurances, even if you can't hope to cover all the bases. It adds a nice little twist to a module when people react somewhat more hostile or scared because you're a drow, when old folks can join the old timers on the bench and learn some interesting facts about the area through gossip (if they pass a con test to stay awake) while youngsters can not, when you are offered a position in a temple of your own faith or similar. You might even age (less strength and more wisdom) and die over time, especially when you make too much use of the haste spell.
It's not there in the OC, but you can have a lot of fun with it regardless.

Beaumanoir 05-02-2003 06:12 PM

LOL... 95 year old human wizard casts haste...

*Dies after 3 steps*

Legolas 05-02-2003 06:41 PM

On the other hand, a 14 year old wizard doesn't get to play outside the house

D W Washburn 05-03-2003 10:48 PM

14 year old Barbarians are most likely to be kicked out of the house by that time. ;) (Eats everything in the house also!)

SpiritWarrior 05-08-2003 08:30 PM

Not to mention that stereotypical phase they enter at puberty where they become infatuated with Half-Orc females. Frightening.
