Here's a neat idea, Everyone make a room, just a room, or as many as you want, but just one should do, good/bad scripted/unscripted I don't care, just made a single room put a door in it somewhere or two, and then upload it to somewhere were it can be downloaded by everyone. We'll stick the links here, and once i've gotten all of your rooms i'll connect them, put them in order, fill in any blanks you left, and we'll have us a mid-sized Ironworks-mad map...
What do you all think of this idea? I say we start getting it on! |
<font color=skyblue>It sounds like a great idea. Everybody contribute to making a piece of the whole, then having it all compiled. It would be fun to do, but let me make some suggestions.
* Name a scenerio...forest, dungeon, city...so we can all be unified in the creation. * Is it a hack/slash? That would be easier than trying to keep everybody focused on a story/plot. * When everybody makes a room...or maybe since there are not that many people here that like to make stuff, each do two rooms...then one person be in charge of connecting them all and making transitions work...another person be in charge of adding monsters...another person to add people...another person to hide treasures...etc. That way, their is more suspense for everyone involved and the vastness of creativity include by each individual will make it more complex. * Everybody has to be on the same patch version. These are just some ideas. I bet you guys can think of many more. It would not be hard at all to ask a small contribution from each member. It would really be exciting! </font> |
I am a builder and would be willing to donate a Port City that I made /)eathKiller. It has many doors and consists of three different sections dividing the city. Many ships teathered to the docks with treasure, although guarded accordingly. Let me know.
|
Just tell me what you need
|
Sure. I'm more into storytelling, but H/S is more likely what it'll end up being. Give me a setting and the level of the PC, and I'll see what I can do.
|
I sound totally dumb, but I don't know how to:
Up or download Add links, Or do area transitions, but I'll get working on it, and I will try to do what you suggesest when someonw tells me how. |
that's a cool idea!
|
alright, One person do a small town, another the insides of a few houses, let's say place 10 houses in the town and someone else make 10 rooms, fill em up with custom NPCs and outfits, then someone make a large foresty outdoor level which a path from the town leads to, someone else do a cave which will be hidden in the forest. Whoever wants to do these tasks just take them, we probably wont be using Crypt as it's so dull and yellow, I'll work on making a prize room that will knock your socks off
|
I have a great idea !
Lets make a big meandering mod with no plot line, no story, just a random collection of rooms and monsters with no rhyme or reason ! *NOT* !!!! I have a better idea. Lets get together a collection of people who want to make mods. Everyone makes their own mods, acts as play tester in the other mods, and is happy to help out with advice on scripting, monsters, etc etc. |
I've already started work on a place, but it's really slow, and how are we going to connect them al together anyway?
|
Actually, koconnor100, there are a lot of modules out there which are just that ;)
I personally agree that actually having a storyline improves a module no-end, but let's see if this works first, okay You don't have to make an area, but you can if you want to. If it works we could perhaps start something a little more complicated, and naturally the fact that people are building a module together does not mean it's impossible to playtest other modules at the same time DK, where do you suggest we upload our areas to, and what PC level are we aiming at? |
I actually have a module 3/4 done. But I have to find time to learn scripting to finish it. Custom items are easy to make and modifying monsters isn't to hard but,
some scripting is needed to get them to behave properly. Any suggestions on scripting sites or tutorials would be greatly appreciated. I would be more than happy to create an area or two. I have written for the RPGA and might give some pointers on storylines and mixing encounters if you like. |
If you haven't started scripting yet, I doubt you're 3/4 done... especially if you've a story to tell.
I'm working on a module based on the Hazardous Times series which ran in the RP forum a while back. I finished the first village in a few days, but after several weeks I'm still only half done with the scripting and the quests. Although it is getting easier now. Only some 31 areas not including buildings to go... |
Any range of PC you want, I'll be going High-end myself
|
It isn't some massive story driven campaign. It's just a short H/S. The only thing I need to do is add some scripts for the critters. As I said, I need to learn the scripting. There's no sense in trying to build a huge, complicated, plot driven mod for my first attempt. If you have any advice on where to go for tutorials that work Legolas I would be happy to learn. Then I could start a nice plot driven campaign.
|
I would love to join a party to play whatever is combined here ;)
I could donate a wizards scroll room. Trapped and deadly. Man are they tough!</p> I will watch for the hook up also. |
heh well i've made a few rooms now if anyone's interested in seeing them...
Right Click And Save This Link http://www.freewebs.com/nakahara/FOrest1.erf is the link incase that one up there is broken... It's basically a nice Drow-ridden asylum, which can also double as an indoor Spa ^_^ I'm also going to show you what else i've got... ummm how about uhhh This Quaint Cafe Yes that's one of my best indoor maps right there ^_^ hmm letsee what else umm.. Oh i guess in order for those to work you'll have to import them into this mod... Which not only contains a chess board, shopping mall, already labeled doors, a small town which is under ork attack, a bunch of neatly done portals and a huge maze filled with "sewer elementals" Can be hack n' slash or have a plot if used properly, the store and chess games are fun anyway, feel free to spend all the time you want deleting all those Stupid BET tags, I can't seem to get rid of them I highly recomend just walking about the mall first to get a jist of everything and then try out the chess game which is right across from the library... once again that's http://www.freewebs.com/nakahara/DKstuff.zip |

I hope I can do as much as possible around the OnHeartbeat slot. will ExecuteScript in it make the game less laggy (instead of putting a wole script in)? |
<font color=skyblue>I never have been able to make area transitions...so if I make more than one room for you...you'll have to link them and all that. Do you have any preferences for me to attempt? I may try to do so this weekend...and would like to know what fashion of area you would need from me. Also...do you want monsters or people? What levels?</font>
|
philip, try editing the On Spawn scripts. One of the lines there automatically has the character fire the User Defined script on heartbeat. Then you can use that one for your heartbeat events.
Larry, would an illustrated tutorial help? Area transcriptions are important Someone will have to look at these once we have the areas anyway, as that's the only way to link the areas of the different users together. /)K, I've tried the module and found it impossible to travel between areas other than the mall and the bit with all the portals. Possibly area-transition trigger related, because the doors worked just fine. Are those pressure plates supposed to float in the air? I've started work on a cave complex, but decided to abandon that for now (I was individualising the Xvarts and kept forgetting things, like setting them to hostile, giving them a weapon, adjusting the heads etc.. With anything over ten that is really annoying ;) ), and am working instead on a maze on the outside of a cube. Don't know how that'll fit in but it seemed like it might be fun. |

It may be just a wee bit off-topic, but yes, the chess game worked
Had to run back and forth between the two control circles to move both sides, but it did work. Putting it all in dialogue works, but it's a little crammed. Also, without markings along the edge of the board (A, B, C and 1, 2 , 3 etc.) it will be confusing to some. Perhaps you could try to change the conversation tree so you first select what kind of piece you want to move (pawn, knight, king), and then the individual piece of that kind using the current system. Makes it more user-friendly. Also, I think signs or similar at the corners marked A1, A8, H1 and H8 would help. But that's just details, the system itself seems to work fine |
Compared to everyone lese's, my mod seems absolute rubbish.
I only started two dyas ago, have almost NO free time, there are no conversation, and only two humans and a dragon, no objects, and my system keeps crashing! Arrg! And what is scripting? I don't know how to do that or area transitions or how to get it online anyway, if my parents will let me, and.... Basicly, nothing is working right, it'll all be hack and slash before long, and in a small area, that gets very boring quickly I have found. But that's just me. |
if you want some practice on building a mod with area tansitions and stores and like everything you want check out the bioware tutorials
for a good scripting tutorial and help is the NWN lexicon do the tutorial by celowin it's great for learning to script [edit:] practice a bit and you'll improve your skills with building mods soon [ 04-11-2003, 04:53 PM: Message edited by: philip ] |
I have them bookmarked </p> Pirates Cove is the one I was writing about. The other one is just hack and slash. The author is a Barbarian ;)
Enjoy all and who wants the story part? (thanks buddy for posting this file for me!) Here |
To everyone who doesn't know scripting or area transitions:
I really find that if you are having module building problems, buy the "Neverwinter Nights World Builder Guide" at your local electronic store. It has tons of example scripts, an appendix in the back that teaches you scripting, a list of monters, pictures of item properties and much more. It is a must-have. I sucked at scripting and building, and the whole 9 yards, until I bought this book. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Area transiton directions: 1. Have to areas to connect. 2. Place door in door way in one area. 3. Open its properties, and give it a memorable tag. (ex: "Castle_Dungeon".) 4. Open next area, place another door, give it a memoable tag as well.(ex: "Dungeon_Castle".) 5. Go to "Area Transition" tab on the properties window on one of the doors. 6. Click "set up area transition" and select the area you want to connect this door to. 7. select the tag of the door you want connect this one two. 8. The tag should appear in the "destination tag" box. Bravo! That means that you've done it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hope it helped! :D |
I disagree, Sir Ryan. I don't believe after shipping out 60 some dollars for this game the mod builders should then have to go buy The Builders Guidebook just to learn how to make their stuff. And really this guidebook contains only a basic coverage of scripting.
Anything in it and more can be found in the many NWN's tutorials on the bioware site or the many resources on the web - there are script databases too. Print them out or just browse for what you need, really it's all there and it's free which it should be. There was an uproar about the whole Bioware making more money off people thing and IMHO rightly so. [ 04-13-2003, 09:41 PM: Message edited by: SpiritWarrior ] |

Hooray! I learnt how to do stores, so now I can buy stuff!
My mod is not quite finished... If it'd load. |
Here's A nice little area too, It comes with a few little suprises and gives you a starting outfit (well if you're starting epic leveling anyway so level 20+ only items...) (well actually the items are just for 20 ) anyway have fun with it, I recomend it to be played online, not to go anywhere but for a descent game of... you guessed it... chess
