I just got NWN and my first character is a sorceror.(I really enjoy their fireworks).
Well I ended up with these stats:
Str: 8
Dex:14
Con:15
Int:8
Wis:11
Cha:17

Sorcerors dont need strenght, but dex comes in handy for AC since they cannot wear any heavy armour. Con adds hp's and are always welcome and wis affact your saving throws. So theres much good about INT. You know many languages(my char cant even speak properly), youre supposed to get more skillpoints when you level up thus its also affects the power of your spells and how many you get. Does this apply to the sorcerors as well? Im not sure how this is working but the sorceror get their spells from their charisma...Im just wondering if Im missing something crucial here...

the more cha you have the more often you can cast the spells (not THAT much more often mind you even if u are going to maximize it you dont get a huge boost - its like 19 cha is 100% efficientcy, while 30 cha is 120% i guess)
and youll need atleast 19 cha un-altered from stat-enhancing items if you want to be able to cast level 9 spells
a good plan for a sorcer would be 14 base cha and then stick every cha point you get from level ups into cha; youll end up with 19 cha by level 20; and youll have more points to spend to other abilities like int/wis etc

Brennihelvete 02-02-2003 04:30 PM

so int does affect your spellcasting then? Hurrm. So much to put points in, dex, con, wis, int, and cha. I wonder what to prioritize and what not...can anybody help?

Gabrielles blades 02-02-2003 04:58 PM

spellcraft as in the skill that you put points into that allows you to cast counterspells and give you a higher spell resistance? it is intelect based so you will have a slightly higher skill in it if you have more intelect; personaly the way i play a sorcerer is to ignore this skill however since it has an extremely limited use in that your normal spell casting efforts will likely produce faster kills.

Brennihelvete 02-02-2003 06:35 PM

Well if that is the issue I wasted a good deal of points in spellcraft. Theres a bonus to skillpoints given at each lvl up as well which im gonna miss. So in otherwords INT is useless to the sorceror as I first thought it was ?

Gabrielles blades 02-02-2003 07:52 PM

Well, as a sorcerer i find it only helpful to give you excess points to spread around to other skills
for instance, i like to be a semi-rogue by putting points into hide and sneak, a lil war by puting into discipline etc etc
but as for spellcraft skill in generaly i dont find it terribly helpful though if i knew just what the rolls were for resisting spells i might change my mind (as it is it is hidden from me so i dont know if that extra 4 points of spell resist from the skill will really matter or not)

arion windrider 02-02-2003 07:59 PM

gab, are you using a rogue/sorcerer??? im kinda using a fighter/rogue

Gabrielles blades 02-02-2003 08:12 PM

not exactly
its a pure sorcerer class wise
but i train those skills (yes it costs double)
but with the +10 hide/sneak elven boots cloak i can usualy skulk about as well as a rogue can without the cloak n boots

thats cool gab... ive tried the magic part of the game with a character.. now just hack and slash now

My Sorcerer was something like this:

Str 10
Dex 16
Con 10
Wis 8
Int 16
Cha 16

I wanted as much skill points as i can get so i decided have high Int.
He kicked some butt for like 3 days, until i went back to my Wizard/Rogue.

That looks good except that you have low saving throws and poor health(not many hps have you?)
Every stat got a useful purpose in this game which makes it so hard on what to go for. for Sorcerer CHA is the main. THen you need DEX for AC, CON for hp, WIS for saving throws, INT for various bonuses. Also it says that the INT affects how much damaging the spells do...does this apply to the sorceror as well?

Well as I understand it....

a high INT gives you an additional skill point every level-up.
I was reading about it on the gamespy NWN

I started wondering one thing. I am level 7 wizard and so far I have gained one point to use for INT, CHA, STR, DEX, CON or WIZ. I think it was when I gained level 4. I am not beside my manual now, but is it normal that you can't relly raise your stats during the game? If I gain 1 point / 4 levels, it means that I have can spend 5 points when I am level 20, which is not much considering that you spend about 90 points when crreating character. Is this supposed to be so?
