SPOILER!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I'm soo glad that I finally made it to the Thieves Warrens, and so I'm happily wobbeling around with my party through that maze when all of the sudden I come face to face with a bunch of mutant-killer-uber Skeleton Warriors who like totally butcher my party to chunks!! Even a couple of summons cannot keep them busy for a short while! I've tried a couple of things (such as Invisibility --> Backstab, Potion of Heroism + Oil of Speed + Boots of Speed, and also other things, but nothing seems to work) One way or the other these guys seem unbeatable (at least if I want my entire party to live). spoiler . .. . . . . . . . . . . . First of all, send your thief, drinking potion of invisibility, to disarm all the traps in front of the Skeletons. then, the thief goes back to join the rest of the party OUT OF THE SIGHT range of the skeletons. Then, send in your best tanks (preferably two tanks), fully and completely buffed with oil of speed or haste, potion of heriosim and etc, equips them with cloak of displacement and boots of avoiding, approaching quickly and getting the skeletons into melee combat. Once they're in melee combat, their deadly arrows won't hurt the rest of the party anymore, now is the time to get the rest of party close enough and use ranged weapons and attack them. this should work! good luck ;) |
All Undead (including non-skeletal Undead, such as Ghouls and Zombies, oddly enough) have some resistance to Slashing and Piercing weapons. So if you've got some good Blunt weapons with which to bash skulls in, by all means do so.
Don't waste your time with spells, either. 95% Magic Resistance. (Or was it 98 or 99? I forget.) |
You've made it into the Thief Warrens, but you cannot handle a couple of Skeletal Warriors? Not trying to be harsh, mind you, but what kind of party do you have and what levels are they?
|
All of em either level 7 or 8. And IMHO it's not just 'a couple of Skeleton Warriors'. I haven't had any difficulty with other fights such as the Iron Throne, or the battle with Reiltar.
EDIT: By the way, shouldn't a scroll of Protection from Undead help me out here? I tried that tactic, but those *things* still slaughtered me like a pig in a butcherhouse!! [ 09-08-2003, 03:59 AM: Message edited by: Link ] |
Here we go, evil tactic #2214
Try using the boots of grounding + potion of insulation (I think that's what it was called) on your thief for great of protection from lightning. Fire resistance will also be helpful, you've got spells for that. Make sure to put your party in a safe location. Then go into stealth mode, or use invisibility, and walk up to the skeletons. If you position your character correctly, the lightningbolt springing from the traps will hit one or more of the skeletons, repeatedly. This will weaken or kill one or more of the skellies, after which you have your party advance to just beyond the range of the archers. Then attack the skeleton archers with your thief and charge in as you would normally. |
But won't the skellies be resistant to the damage?

I seem to remember it working rather well, so no, not resistant enough to prevent all hurt. Then again it has been a long time since I was there. Just give it a try and we'll see

Hmm - I do not recall that fight as one of the troublesome fights. I think I used my standard method: 1 'invisible' thief in front using find traps. Whenever the thief has cleaned a suitable area, move the rest of the party up to the thief. If the thief discovers an enemy, move the thief backwards and move in the cavallery. 2 tanks in front (one with boots of speed) charging, while the rest (including the thief) starts shooting from a distance. Normally if there are ranged attackers among the enemies, theese will 'lock on' my tanks, which both has low AC combined with missile avoiding equipment (both got large shields, one wears the ogre belt the other wears boots of avoidance). As far as I remember I did not have problems with theese skeleton warriors. I might have lured them out one by one by holding back my tanks though.

Yup, Legolas, is right! It's working alright! I tried using a Potion of Absorption and the Boots of Grounding, and the skellies took a fair bit of damage! :D YAY!
|
Hey Legolas, I use that tactic as well. Found it worked for my solo Fighter/Mage and repeated it when playing as Bard. I cast all the protection spells plus Mirror Image and ran into the traps. My F/M took a little fire damage but the Skeletons were wiped out. I never understood if this is a feature or a bug, but the Skeleton Warriors have very little Magic Resistance to the Traps. Without this tactic my parties would find this a tough fight, because I usually go heavy on ranged weapons and magic, both of which are ineffective in this battle.

Wait till u see Sarevok party (and u will know what is tough) |
I think I only ever used the tactic with my fighter/thief and his party on one of my first runs through the game. We were all severely underlevelled, I didn't know about the usefulness of monster summons, and I kept saving those potions for 'the next fight'. I don't think I used many of them against the final baddie either. Apart from the potion hoarding, all that has changed and I'm doing a lot better for it.
I sneaked past the skeletons under the keep, the goons and basilisks also there (Loved that potion of invisibility), the party outside the temple of Bhaal, but these skeleton warriors I managed to defeat Yes, those were the days... Then you stumble over something like Ironworks and your games are never the same again. |
Ack! I saw the Sarevok party alright! And then moments later both my eyeballs were bouncing in the Undercity's temple! That dude is a killing machine with his sword! How the hell should I beat him?!??!
Party: Me (Paladin - 7) Branwen (Cleric - 7) Minsc (Ranger - 7) Dynaheir (Mage - 7) Imoen (Thief - 7) Coran (Fighter/Thief 6/7) I've got loads of potions, but they're useless in this battle I think. I can summon some skellies, but either the Sunfire (or something like it) that is casted by (I think) Angelo kills them off, or Sarevok swings his mighty sword a couple of times and they're a goner. How the hell should this guy be beaten?!?! Oh, before I forget; I haven't got any cloudkill The (ch)easiest way isn't even possible... |

spoiler . . . . . . . . . Cloudkill only helps you with his goons, not Sarevok himself. 1. THE surest/cheesiest way is to summon tons of monsters (get yourself couple of fully charge wands of summoning). place them around the center (with traps which cannot be disarmed). then send one with boots of speed or drinking oil to lure Sarevok and his goons. now, when they come, they will engage in a huge group fight with monsters, and triggered all those nasty traps, they will get hurt, Sarevok himself will even be unconscious for a while. while they are there with monsters, you can just finish them with ranged weapons. 2. THE hard way, divide and conquer... well, lure them one by one (need some luck, but definitely doable) to you, and finsih them one by one (well, if Saverok comes early, you only need to finish him). 3. maybe doable with a lower level party. This is how I beat him in my latest run, with a higher level party (all max out in the TOTSC XP cap). first of all, still need to lure them to you one by one. as soon as Saverok come to your party, your best tanks, drinking potions, especially potions of heroism, confront him straight, and mage shoot him with two greater malisons (or as many greater malison scrolls you can find), followed by an army of Chromatic Orbs! Priests can cast spells as well, since Saverok will be under the influence of greater malison, or use ranged weapons. The greater malison + chromatic orb is the key...they can stun Saverok...well, when he's stuned, finsih him off quickly! I don't know whether this tactic will work for the average lvl 7 party, but you can try. |
If you want to be a coward sarevok is easy, get a ranger with boots of speed to hit and run with the bow of markmanship, you can lure him away from hist friends and never fight them.
I have never beaten him hand to hand. He is damn good. |

Oh well. Moiraine Sedai |
the key to this battle IMO is to take out Angelo and the mage first. this can be easily accomplished by firing arrows of detonation with coran and imoen. then after quaffing all the potions your body can hold, charge at Sarevok, firing arrows/bolts/darts of biting, depending on which one your using, with your ranged characters and hacking away with your melee characters. if injured badly, back off and heal yourself!(duh) It shouldnt be too hard after a few tries...
