I'm a level 7 pure-class Fighter. I've just recently arrived in Baldur's Gate, and I have 50,000 gp burning a hole in my pocket...but I have nothing to waste it on  My equipment:
-Helmet of Defense -Ankheg Armor -Ashideena Warhammer/Varscona & Large Shield +1 (I'm going for Six's gold suit :D ) -Boots of Speed -Girdle of Bluntness -Ring of Infravision -Ring of Animal stuff (the one that charms) -Algernon's Cloak (I have heard about how powerful this is, but I never imagined this  ) -Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise I think that's it. He also has the Boots of Avoidance and the Boots of Grounding in his inventory, in case I need them. Total AC is -5, proficiencies: ** in Blunt, Large Sword, and Small Sword. I'm going to check out Sorcererous Sundries soon, but I doubt they have anything I need. [ 08-26-2003, 09:51 AM: Message edited by: Pyrenk ] |
Buy a full plate armour, drop the 'animal stuff ring', find a +2 cloak or ring.
We all have too much gold in the end :D . I once tried to get rid of the gold by buying potions. If you want to, you are able to get buffed quite a lot before each large battle Insane |
I was going to buy Full Plate, but I don't have a decent ring/amulet. Even a +1 would make it -6, however, and I can get both in Beregost...
I'm going to try to get the Plate +3 now. I have 2 out of 4 golden items (SixOfSpades :D ), and am very close to obtaining the helm. |
have you got tales of the sword coast?
the shop in ulgoth's beard has a couple of pretty powered items |
Not paying attention? The Plate +3 is only found in Durlag's Tower, which comes with ToSC.
I have just obtained it, btw...it looks so cool ^.^ I'll check the Ulgoth's shop out now. |
Pyrenk...I never bought any stuff for my fighters, the items we got in the course of the game are good enough I think.
also, some missle weapon protection stuffs may come in handy at times, besides Boots of Avoidance, in one of the BG city quests, you can get a very good +4 against missles shield. alos, there's a great vs. missle TOTSC cloak. mmm...maybe add Cloak of Balduran? a fighter (especially a solo one) also needs good magic resistance it also has bonus to your saving throws. I'm currently using the Shield of Falling Stars; it's part of the golden ensemble.
I wasn't saying that I didn't have good items, I was just wondering if there was better equipment that could be bought. I'm trying to get the Cloak, btw. |
Cloak of Balduran + Helm of Balduran gives a nice bonus to your fighter. And IIRC, the sword of balduran is also in TOTSC, and makes for a nice weapon.

I concur with InsaneBane. Except for upgrading your armor and trading your Ring of Animal Influence for the Ring of Energy, you should load yourself up with potions of strength, healing, speed, and invulnerability. Don't forget potions of magic blocking (I think those make it so that all your saving throws are successful) and the various scrolls of protection.
Money, money, money...now you know how billionaires feel in real life. |
Which is why I don't understand their hunger for more. You don't get respect (from decent people) for having money...

I was wearing the Blunt girdle until I obtained the Golden one. I put it off for some time; didn't need it much...until Sarevok -.- I killed him, though :D I had a large amount of left-over potions, and I mysteriously charmed Tazok with Al's cloak...I thought that I couldn't charm either of them?

If you're actually hoping to BUY cool stuff, I'm afraid you're out of luck--95% of the best items in the game are found/looted. Once you've bought some Full Plate, Shadow Armor, and your Archmagi Robe(s), there's really nothing else worth spending money on in the whole game, unless you want to pop on over to Sorcerous Sundries and plonk down some gold for some Arrows of Detonation, or to Ulgoth's Beard for the Cloak of Displacement.
Oh, yeah--Mage scrolls are excepted from this. There are some must-have spells that can ONLY be bought, IIRC. |
