All right, I hear that they're going to be part of NWN. I have read through the rule book and I think that I understand how they're gonna work, but does anyone have some insights?

Micah Foehammer 04-25-2002 01:47 PM

What specifically would you like to know?

Aar-Daneel 04-25-2002 02:46 PM

what specifically do you know?

WOLFGIR 04-25-2002 05:37 PM

Oh geez, where to begin.
First of all, feats are the tricks, the extras that defines what type of character you will be, the nimble movable fighter or the heavy hitting moving fortress or the fighting wizard or the wise and all knowing arcane expert more or less.

Feats are 2 at start for humans and one for other races. The different classes has either a set of feat or feat like abilities that you gain during level ups.- All gain one feat every third level to be placed at whatever you like with some restrictions and prerequisits.

Apart from that you need the descriptions of the feats to see what they do and which to choose. www.wizards.com have somethere under D&D 3:ed page a selection of feats from players handbook that will most likely be the ones in the game.

I thought that Fighter and fighter-types (ranger etc.) had an advanced feat progression - gaining one feat every 2 levels as opposed to every 3 levels.

Skills are generally the old class specific skills such as pickpocketing, open locks, hiding in shadows, etc. You start with a certain number of points based on your Intelligence and your class and gain a number of additional skill points per level which is also a function of your Intelligence and class.

All right, I worked up my Paladin (which, BTW, Attalus is going to take and make him a male) and he gets an extra Feat, so that makes three, right? So I gave him Armor Proficiency (light), Mounted Combat, and Martial Weapon Proficiency. Viconia just gets one, so I gave her Martial Weapon Proficiency. For skills, Aelfwine (the Paladin) I chose Profession, Diplomacy, Handle Animals, Heal, and Ride. For Viconia (me), I picked Profession, Heal, Knowledge(Arcane), Knowledge(Religious), Scry, and Spellcraft. Four ranks, each. What do you think? Are those the best?

Micah Foehammer 04-25-2002 06:23 PM

Those look like a good mix. I had thought that Paladins began with certain armor and martial weapon feats, but I will confess to getting confused between what is going to happen with IWD2 and the core d20 rules. lol

Hmm, oki, perhaps I wasnīt clear enough with feats, above post were the general, fighters gain bonus feats and rouges get a higher sneak attack and so on.
Galadria, you donīt need to buy Armor Proficiency or Martial Weapon Proficiency, A Paladin is a fighter class and Paladins and fighters are by class already proficient with all armour and all simple and martial weapons. I suggest you skip mounted combat since horses donīt seem to be able to be implemented in NWN, One feat should be weapon focus (your main weapon for instance longsword), one should be Iron will (extra +2 to your will saving throw) A first level Paladin human donīt get any more feats to place. Start buying alittle skills on concentration (helps to cast spells on the defensive).

Viconia should also have to decide which domains she have access to and since the martial weapon proficency is for only ONE weapon at the time itīs better with weapon focus or combat casting for a cleric.

Man, I guess I better do some reading on 3rd edition. It is so much different thatn 2nd edition. O well, learn as you go I guess.

CHeck out the Black Isle Forums under Icewind Dale 2 Rules. ALthough the rules as defined there are somewhat different that the general d20 rules they will give you an idea about how feats and skills work overall.

heres the link:

http://feedback.blackisle.com/forums...?s=&forumid=37

I can't find my link to the general d20 rules section. Maybe Wolfgir can post it???

Galadria 04-26-2002 02:43 PM

Viconia is going to be a Priestess of Bocob, so her Domais are Magic, Trickery, and Knowledge.

I look at feats and skills like this, whichever ones you choose will turn your character into something like the predefined "kits" in BG2. Basically, with 3ed rules, you have the flexibility to make whatever you want, it all depends on what type of character you want to play. So you can turn a fighter into a bruiser (with the power attack and cleave type of feats) or into a dueler (with weapon focus and dodge type of feats), it's all up to the player.

Makes for lots of variety, and a lot more personalized characters.

My 2 cents.

mreball 04-26-2002 03:44 PM

Is there a list showing all the feats and skills available in 3rd edition. I dont have any of the books for 3rd edition.

Galadria 04-26-2002 04:08 PM

Sorry, I got all my info from the 3ed "Player's Handbook" but I bet that Wolfie knows a place.

WOLFGIR 04-26-2002 04:21 PM

Well the best I can offer is unfortunately to go look for a none obvious link at http://www.wizards.com The link I had there showed both the CR of monsters and also all the feats available for the pen and paper version but I have lost that one. It was a sublink somehwere that emded with /feats something :S

Sorry that I canīt help out more. I will try and answer as many questions as possible here, but I canīt put down all the feats here, there are too many.

Galadria, I donīt really know how they are going to solve the clerics domains here, but in PnP a cleric chooses two of the godīs domain as there favourite. That makes a bonus spell for each level of spell available in one of thoose domains but also prevents you from casting a spell from the opposite ones. I donīt know if they will go that deep in NWN yet or not. Havenīt read about it.

For you who simply wants to know more about the game try the little shockwave game at wizards here: http://www.playdnd.com/welcome.asp

WOLFGIR 04-26-2002 04:27 PM

BUgger me eyes and mind but I found it! :D

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/feats.asp

Just choose show all and source players handbook and you will have a rough idea about the feats..

http://www.wizards.com/dnd/spells.asp

For spells and be sure to see the Faerun books for the Faerun touch of spells like old goodies like Aganazars scorcher and other hard to spell spells...
