I just read in a UK games magazine that the NWN release is now being estimated for September 2002 due to ongoing problems with implementing some of the effects.
Has anyone heard similar? I don't think I can wait that long.... |
I have, and i certainly hope they are wrong.
|
Well that would suck! Whats up with them now???????? I know they dont want to put out something like Pool of Radiance but they better get on the ball or something better will come along......
|
Another postpone? Awg. :(
Only good thing about it is that I've got more time now to save money for a new computer. My two current ones are not even close to being capable of running NWN. :( EDIT: fortunately, that last statement turns out to be false. It seems the minimum requirements aren't as high as I first anticipated, and I should be able to play the game in theory. Still, I need to save money for a new computer anyways. ;) |
OMG...
Oh well, they say "waiting is for a reason, a good one...". |
ANY release dates you see are pure speculation. The sad fact is, that because of the nasty four-way lawsuit (Interplay. Titus, Bioware, Black Isle), the lawyers now control the fate of this game, not the designers or producers. It certainly will not be released until AT LEAST Interplay and Bioware come to an agreement, which I have yet to hear a single encouraging rumor about. Desslock on Gamepsot has speculated that it might be YEARS before we see this one, if ever. This sucks more badly than any RPG industry development in awhile, but we've got to face facts, people.
|
Oh, darn, darn, DARN IT! Pardon my :SPAM:
|
I knew it this thing is a mirage...
|
Well on the bright side hehe ye dont know if NWN will be that great. I mean from the Screens I've seen those monsters look like futuristic cyborgs or something. So I dunno, dont wait for it that impatiently just yet hehe. Enjoy the great RPGs now, for NWN will be a complete new way to experince a Forgotten Realm RPG .
|
All right, I'll concentrate on that "It probably sucks, it probably sucks." :(
|
Damn its gonna be hard to wait that long...
All the problems that you guys see on screens are unlikely to be when game comes out. If its coming out in december they are like half way finished or something. Arghhhhhhhh |
Well, 'good things come to those who wait'
But if they pull another Pool of Radiance job, then...I will literally go over there and force them to play the game themselves. Anyway, what else can we do but complain? Maybe I'll see some of you in the net when Never Winter Nights comes out. |
Speaking about Net playing. Anyone out there who plays IWD or HoW over Gamespy or something? I'd be interested in joining a Clan of that sort or something.
|
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
This is really not good. They need to get this game out soon, before I explode with anticipation. And if it doesn't come out...somebody at Interplay will be eating a .50 caliber sandwich. |
Do you have any idea that it might turn out just like Pool of Radiance: Myth Drannor, todays Ubisoft D&D title? Well I do, at least I know there is a chance. So perhaps you should calm your eager waiting , for you dont know what lies ahead m'lad... ;)

@Durwyn, it's a far safer bet than PoR II. First, Bioware has a rep for producing solid products without skimping design. Second, the developers haven't gone through several shifts of corporate management in their publisher. Third, as attention-getting as NWN is, Bioware would never release it without first putting it through strenuous gameplay and balance testing. Fourth, the game is done, so it's not a case of being rushed out the door.
|
Exactly, fable. BG I was quality, Planescape was quality, Icewind Dale was quality, BG II was quality...why would NWN be any different? PoR is a completely different company, even if it was *trying* to use the AD&D system.
My deal is I'm planning on running a server for the game. I have put a lot of work into getting it ready to go by the time the game comes out - which seems to continue being pushed back further and further. Basically I've designed a complete mini-setting for the game. Also, I'm in the Army...and if it comes out in Fall 2002 rather than Spring or Summer 2002, then I'm gonna be out in the woods for an extended period of time. So I won't get to put my server up for a long time...this is really getting frustrating. |

Interplay was only going to publish it (Make the boxes, PR campaign, etc), but they said this Month that this Law suit would NOT change the release date of 2nd Quarter 2002. Remember when I told you all way back I said I bet it wouldn't be out until March 2002? ;) I have contacts at Bioware, and have spoken to them about this: they say all is on schedule. they HAVE been adding to the single player story, but that is done now. But get this-- Bioware is still forwarding PR Requests to Interplay FOR Neverwinter Nights.. THAT is odd. Maybe they are working this out.. I SURE as hell hope so, if NWN is delayed until Aug, it's Vaporware. |
Thank goodness your update Ziroc! I really didn't want to wait until September for this game. (Did any of us wait to wait that long?)You guys can say it sucks all you want, ;) i'll say this instead. It's gonna rock! It's gonna rock! Etc. etc. etc.

Ziroc,
what is "projected" release date for NWN IF they stick to their schedule then? I plead guilty to spreading the September 2002 information .... but I've seen that date listed in NUMEROUS places. My apologies to anyone who blew a fuse based on that post. |
I just started playing BG2 again last night after I finially had enough of the self-abuse that playing POR 2 is... and to compare the two is not even fair. BG2 has a fit and finish that ROMD couldn't hope to attain without a major rewrite. It's like comparing a New Honda Accord to an old Pinto (look at it wrong and it'll blow up). Even though it might feel better to tell ourselves NWN will be weak... if it's anything like BG2 it will be a stand out game... and solid - reliable, playable, etc...
|
If God can create the world in seven days AND have time to rest shouldn't Bioware be able to produce one little computer game without keeping us waiting?
They have proven themselves to be on deity level before now :D . |

Weak? Not a possibility. My major concern was that Bioware might sacrifice the standalone story for the multiplayer, editing aspect, but my own sources (which probably duplicate Ziroc's, though I'm sure he understands 'em better--being a developer, too) lead me believe the single player game will be used as a showpiece for what NWN can do, to encourage imaginative scenario creation. I like that idea. |
Well all I hope that NWN turns out to be a good game ;) . The 3D Textures and backround for settings such as trees, buildings of any sort, dont look quite well with the 3D rather than what trees and structures look in BG2.
But then again too early to judge. Gosh I want NWN so bad ;) . |
Some good news at last
Ananova : Infogrames gets rights to publish 'revolutionary' RPG Infogrames have won the rights to publish the innovative role-playing game Neverwinter Nights. The game's developers, BioWare and Interplay, have reached a settlement following a dispute over rights. Neverwinter Nights features an innovative dungeon master system, which lets players create and run their own adventures. It is expected to bridge the gap between computer and paper-and-pencil role-playing games. The game will include an extensive single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode that supports up to 64 players per server. It is scheduled for release later this year. |
Latest news :
Bioware and Interplay splitted and Bioware got a new publisher (see link for more details) http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/...amesFinal.html About the release date, bioware keeps saying nothing about any release, THOUGH!! what I've heard from very trusted resources it should be in the stores by mai 2002, maybe even earlier due to the new publisher, let's hope my friends are right! |
Hmm, seems that most websites into gaming keep a high hope for the beginning of March now. Add the usual problems and delays for a worldwide release (at least that sounds promising if they do a Blizzard..) we can hopefully expect it to still ruin our summer! ;)

Hopefully....hopefully.....hopefully
