With the wonders of Vanish my Zenmaster just, I believe, set a new record for the game. With apologies to Sazerac & bsftcs, respectively, no tree surfing or stacks were used in the creation of this record :D
Lanfear went from Gareth's speech (which she admittedly ESC'd) directly to the Oracles, Vanishing past the wall they normally open. She ran through Ishad N'ha directly to the Dragon Spire, Vanished past the bronze firebeast, killed the dragon & took the sword. She ran through Brimloch, heading straight for the Anephas Shrine Island. On the westernmost point of that island, where the trees thin, she Vanished into the middle of some sleeping pirates . She did Collasium, the pyramid, and killed Cet. The time of 38 minutes 10 seconds including Anephas's long closing speech, beats Packrat's famous time, mostly since he did the Crypt & Oracles part. It was, for Lanfear, a surprisingly nonviolent game (she'd usually not the nice sort...). She killed only Erathsmedor, six mummies in the Temple's first room, and Cet. I am sorry, Wyvern, about the dragon, but skipping the spire & doing Skull Castle to get the Staff takes longer (by about eight minutes, even with some fun Vanishing to avoid the lift puzzle). The liberal use of Create Portal & Teleport in key places in the Spire & Collasium also sped up the process considerably... can you guess where? |
Wow!

Wow, that's amazing.
|
You should be proud... Not many could do that.
|
Yes, it's the fastest possible way Vanish spell rules!
|
Congrats!!!! :D
We had another 30 some minute game but I forget the exact time. May have to see if I can locate that but certainly a very impressive time, aleph_null!!! Wyv |
Hum... Lanfear?... do we have ourselves a new WoT fan on our ranks?... anyways... wow... v. impressive time... congratulations...

I'm impressed, aleph_null (or whoever you are now ). Hmmm... the only thing I can think of which might speed things up more would be if portals could persist through a resetting of adventures... I may have to try that some time ;)
|
I think it would at best shave 5 or 6 minutes of running off; the vast majority of that time is swimming around Collasium (can't Vanish past/through spinning door) and in the Spire (can't Vanish into Erathsmedor's switch room [i.e. you've actually got to get the Shards]).
|
But what if you set a portal in the room with the Mavin... could you just pick it up from there? I agree about Collasium, BTW
*edit* and 5-6 minutes saved is around 15% of the total time... not bad at all, at one shot :D [ 07-11-2004, 10:49 AM: Message edited by: Bungleau ] |
That reminds me:
You can't Vanish into the Mavin room or Erathsmedor's room (like if you'd stacked your way up the Spire); that would be nice Skull Castle would be really fast if you already had the Mavin (you just kill G-Ra with it first time you see him & take the Staff), but that kind of defeats the purpose... |
The portals do not survive reset adventures. As Aleph Null has already said, you cannot vanish into the Erathsmedor room from the Spire, therefore, you have to pass the dungeon or you have to pass Skull Castle.
