When heading to the city that Jaheira wants me to go to, in the hills before the city, it either freezes while loading or lets me move the mouse a couple times before freezing. Then after another minute or two, it closes and a runtime error pops up. I don't remember the exact words but it says something about microsoft runtime c++ library. I have uninstalled and installed a few time and even trying to transfer my game to another computer. Neither worked and when I tried to transfer my save to another computer, it said the disk wasn't formatted.
Is there any patches for this or any other way to the city? |
Okay, this sounds like a really funky one.
1) Crashing upon entering a map area usually means that the *.BIF file for that area is corrupted. Since reinstalling didn't help, you've got good odds of having a scratched CD. 2) Why the hell it's talking about C++ is beyond me. Do you have some C++ program running in the background or something? 3) "...when I tried to transfer my save to another computer, it said the disk wasn't formatted." Try transferring some other form of data, in the exact same way. If it only screws up when trying to copy your game, then congratulations, you've got a corrupt Save file. 4) How many (non-bugged) games of BG have you played previously? Have you seen this problem before? Possible Solutions: Go around that particular map area, or reinstall the game using some OTHER set of discs. Since this is so early in the game ("the city that Jaheira wants me to go to" = Nashkel, yes?), then you could just delete the damn thing and start from scratch. |
Could you provide the exact error message you get?
|
Currently my internet at home is down, so if I go to the library today I'll be able to tell what it says, because I forgot to bring it to school with me. Also I completely uninstalled and deleted every and installed again, so I am going to see if that works. If it doesn't, I'll post the message.
By the way, is it bad to kill the one wizard west of beregost who has 2 flesh golems? |

I had the exact same problem, but in a different area. I had my CD resurfaced and re-installed with no problem.

You can kill him? His golems alone prove to be a formidable match for BG 1 players unless you cheat hideously. I mean come on imune to normal weapons + ultra-high magic resistance? combined with a high-level mage? OUCH how do you do that?

YOu can even kill the golems first, if you want. Last time I did it, which was when bg1 first came out, as long as the mage didn't see you kill the golems, he would not turn hostile. But what suck is that if you kill him, he only drop a traveler's robe, so you have to buy his robes of archmagi first, and if you can afford them, then killing him is a waste of time. |
I went in the round room and the one golem that followed me in immidiatly turned blue, until I killed the wizard, but he was just standing there doing nothing though.
|
For maximum gain: Kill the Golems and leave the wizard untouched. He is a vendor of some good items (if you have the money). The wizard is also involved in a rather funny subquest that you can complete if you are not a chicken :D

Save, then wait till golems separate. Have your thief/bard backstab him (with the Dagger of Venom, if you can afford it), than back off. If the poison damage doesn't kill him (and it does more often than not), either do it again, or trample him (it?) with your warriors and archers. For Thalantyr himself, I wouldn't know. The only occasion when I killed him was with the same dagger. He doesn't survive such a thing. |
Well now back to the actual subject;
I uninstalled everything, deleted all the leftover files, reinstalled and began a new game. When trying to get to the hills before Nashkel, the message popped up after shutting the game down while loading. ------------------------------------------------------------ | Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library | |----------------------------------------------------------- | | | Runtime Error | | | | Program: C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Baldur's Gate\ | | BGMAIN.EXE | | | | Abnormal Program Termination | ------------------------------------------------------------- The Microsoft Visual is in the blue/Gray box and besides Runtime error is a yellow circle with a red X. |

You could also go to Microsoft.com and download microsoft visual c++ runtime library. What is your OS and direct X version? |
Well like I stated in my last post, I uninstalled everything and deleted all the saves and other leftover files. I am not sure about Directx, but the OS is windows 98. But I don't think DirectX has to do with it as I also have SoA installed on the computer as well, and it works fine.

It's not important if you re-installed the game, as far as I remember, the areas are saved in your savegame too. Also, did you install the official patch? |
can't find it. Can you tell me where it is?
