eddie-c 05-10-2003 09:46 AM

Having had it happen once, I thought it was wierd but decided "what the hey".
Now it's happened again, has anyone else seen this....?

Having done the Band of Boars quest, all chars got their reward but, after
changing class and gaining levels, twice now - at random - one char has been
given the xp reward *and* promotion, giving him the ability to learn
ironlung and backstab.

I wouldn't mind if the game did it for all my chars. Those are sweet traits,
but only one? Gaaaah!! whine/pout etc.

Wyvern 05-10-2003 10:28 AM

We'd probably have to know a lot more about your characters, classes etc. to figure out why one is getting these perks and the others are not.

Radek will probably know! ;)

What do you need to know and I'll provide the info.

The only thing I can think of, atm, is that the char it has happened to
is a gourka. Maybe the silly guildmaster is giving him bonus on the
boar quest because of that? ;)

hey I am makeing an mmorpg and i need a lot of stuff like a name. can any one think of name or something?

bsftcs 05-10-2003 01:08 PM

I remember seing a link to a name generator somewhere on the net. I cannot remember where it is or who made the link, though. Maybe Wyvern or WillowIX ???

I've had this happen once, I believe; never tracked down the reasons why it happened.

Chalk it up to a twist of fate, and enjoy the results :D It doesn't affect future gameplay at all.

WillowIX 05-11-2003 06:15 AM

There are several quests in the Serran that can give you this beneficial reward. ;) Some works on only one and sometimes one works on every characer. The strangest "bug" I have encountered was in the Temple. My monk got rewarded every time he entered whereas my samurai got rewarded 4 times and then it stopped. Very strange. Probably a loop in the programming.

I keep getting a reward for Jathil, and have had a reward for another quest - on a different char - but this only seemts to happen in Ishad N'ha.

Breakdown of my group: (a save before 2nd bugged promo on gourkha)

gourkha: wa guild 7, wiz 6, pr 7, th 6, bushi 4 wa>pal>ranger>samurai
dwarf: wa 7, wiz 6, pr 7, th 5, bushi 4 wa>pal>ranger>samurai
ratling: wa 5, wiz 5, pr 7, th 5, bushi 4 ro>rang>pal>ninja>samurai
oompha1: wa 7, wiz 7, pr 7, th 5, bushi 4 wiz>wl>pal>samurai
oompah2: wa 7, wiz 6, pr 7, th 5, bushi 4 wiz>wl>bard>samurai
whiskaz: wa 7, wiz 6, pr 7, th 5, bushi 4 pr>wl>ranger>bard

I tried, as an experiment, making a char - not the buggily promoted
gourkha - an assassin, as all the rest are the same level in the thief guild...

Result = after becoming assassin, killing grue morde and getting a couple of
levels as that char, char could not train backstab. Also, the char that had
received the double promotion, because of the bug, had been granted access
to ironlung and backstab. Net result = an assassin without backstab. :(

Maybe after splatting that annoying leprechaun my ratling assassin wannabe
will get access to backstab?

Also, how does one use backstab in a fight?

thanks.

Not that this has anything to do with the topic... but:

Has anyone tried keeping an assassin's dagger when resetting the game thus ending up with two daggers in the new game, promoting one character to assassin, killing Grue Morde, and then promoting a second character to assassin. It would be interesting to know if Grue Morde just respawns.

*cough* You can try this approach without resetting the game by giving the dagger to another character while receiving your promotion. However you will only get the Grue Morde quest once.

Bungleau 05-11-2003 11:30 PM

But *cough* remember, fair Willow, *cough* that this only *cough* works in the *cough* unpatched game.

The patched game cleans up this little *ahem* loophole.

Whenever you reset the game, all quest items disappear (with a couple of exceptions), and all critters you ought to kill come back to life. Mon the Sculz, Juba Thobers, Tevik Teporn, Grue Morde... they're all back...

The ways to two (or more) assassins involve resetting after one becomes an assassin or using the *cough* quick hand-off trick that Willow mentioned above.

The bizarre bug.
1. Eddie seems to get quest reward for the Band of Boars quest repeatedly. Several other quests suffer from this bug (for example Jathil, Leprechaun, or Grue Morde). I do not know the complete list of all quests which are buggy this way. Does the Band of Boars quest belong to the list? Does the bug reveal only sometimes? I don't know.
2. The Iron Lung trait is a guild level 5 Thieves Guild trait. It is available to barbarians and bards. It is not available to assassins. It does not seem to be available to non thief roles.
3. The Backstab trait is a guild level 6 (or 5?) Thieves Guild trait. It seems to be available to all roles.
Summary: The bug upgraded Eddie's bard (see Eddie's list above) to guild level 5 or 6 and allowed the bard to gain the traits. The bard would be able to get both traits later in the game. All other characters will be able to gain Backstab trait later.

Note about the Iron Lung trait.
The Ring of Neptune contains the trait as well. You will find the ring of Neptune in Collasium (Beware! The ring looks like an ordinary Ring of Gedda! Do not throw it away ). The ring can be used by any role.
Therefore, all your characters can get the Iron Lung trait. All characters can invoke the ring and recycle the ring through a shop. The ring survives reset adventures so that it can be inherited from one game run to another. In the other words, all your characters can get the Iron Lung trait at the very beginning of the game :D

bsftcs 05-12-2003 01:34 PM

So the assassin's dagger is a quest item like the other special role quest items (the four tomes and the lich's heart)?

Bungleau 05-12-2003 02:06 PM

Yeppers, it is a quest item. Unless Radek corrects me and says it's really a special sub-class of quest item, since you're not actually quested to get it. Of course, you are quested to do something with it or for it, but that doesn't work for the four tomes...

I need a drink. :D
